The Battlefield 1943 (XBLA/PC/PSN) Official Thread

Just experienced some bad lag and my first lockup on the PS3. Phooey.

Though I did like some guy shouting, "Whoa, I DIDN'T SIGN UP FOR THIS!" when planes were shooting at our boat. :lol

Was playing as a scout earlier and a rifleman came up on me and we opened fire on eachother. I started to run for the tank that was between us and then saw that he was doing the same. I got up to it just before him and threw an explosive on it, waited for him to get inside, and blew him to shit.

Ahh...good times.

Ok, I officially fucking love this game.

But I've had a few more weird/bullshit things happen.

Last night my team was sucking balls - we had no flags and it was game over at any moment. I'm in a plane, and decide to kamikaze a tank I see driving down a hill. I perfect my angle of descent, notice there are 3 guys on foot next to it, and start laughing maniacally, anticipating the destruction and death I'm bringing down from the sky. But noooooo.

I hit the tank perfectly (at a 90 degree angle - no easy task), then somehow warp in front of it and push it up the hill before exploding. Tank isn't hurt, infantry isn't hurt, I'm dead, and it gives the guy in the tank the kill. WTF? I heard you have to bail out to properly "kamikaze", but why? Why the hell wouldn't that kill EVERYONE, at least within a ~5 foot radius?

Then today I was in a plane bailing out onto a deserted bunker - I jump out, deploy my parachute, and watch my plane careen helplessly into the ocean. But wait, WTF? Just as I'm about to land on the roof of the bunker I somehow teleport back into the plane just as it crashes into the ocean. Argh.

And there are countless other WTF moments in regards to grenades, tanks shells, rifle grenades, etc. I can't say it's all been detrimental to me, either, as I've literally had enemy planes crash into me, on foot, that did nothing except freak me out.

I'd really like to either get a patch for some of these glitches, or at least a statement from the devs about splash damage, blast radius, dmg/sec of the weapons, etc. Because I hate not knowing what's a glitch and what's intentionally weak.

You know what gives me the creeps...clan/friend invites. And not from actual friends or gaffers but just random people you played.

There is always something about hear "We need a few good snipers and I saw you...." to, "Looking to start a clan...", to "We pwn and so do you..."

They always leave me with a bittersweet sensation.

^ What is so creepy about that?

Anyway, servers are fucked up right now on PSN or something, just got booted out of 3 games in a row.

The funfactor is off the chart in this game ! I do hope that DICE will acknowledge some of the glitches and problems and release a patch in the future. I just bought myself the Sony Bluetooth Headset and it saddens me that it works so poorly in this game. The squad/friend-part also needs improvment, especially ingame.

I love the tons of WTF-moments you can have during a game, but i am curious. How do people record those youtube-videos that are out there? A lot of them looks like straight from ingame, and not from a camera that is filming the TV.

I ejected from a plane and started pressing all the buttons to pull out the parachute but instead hit the melee button and stabbed the ground with my bayonet as I hit it and survived.

Alright. My life is complete. I can't play anymore because I've reached the most awesome I can be. Everything here on in can't measure up.

1) I headshotted a dude from my airplane.
2) I was in a tank and a plane was screaming towards me. I shot it down with my cannon. Yes, one beautiful shot with my cannon and the plane exploded damn good.

My favorite moment:

On Iwo Jima, the other team had Mount Suribachi locked down and were camping the shit. They weren't even particularly going after many flags, because they were netting so many kills using the turrent gun and sniping and fucking people up with the tank holding ground. People on my team started ragequitting since they were getting killed from across the map, the pussies!

Pretty much single handedly, I ran up the mountain, killed about four people and blew up the tank, knifed two more snipers and captured the mountain my damn self. Some more tried to spawn in quickly, but I just took the fuckers out.

Hoisting that flag was sweet, sweet justice.

capture cards?

My favourite moment so far was in Air Superiority. I was jumping into a plane when I saw someone camped on our carrier. We had a brief gun & grenade skirmish, then I realised it was someone I knew. He nailed me. I respawned just in time to take him down with a rocket as he was leaving in one of our planes. He later told me how enraged he was, which I found very rewarding.

Haven't done it myself, but it wouldn't be too hard to split the AV signal to feed both the TV and a capture card.

yeah, more splash damage and i doesn't curve as much, which makes irt easier to aim. of course, you don't get the awesome coax gun in BC.

Yeah, but at least your gunner(s) are protected from bullets. Of course, this is offset by there being more ways to take out a tank in in BC.

Finally settling into this now and finding my BF:BC form came top three before i called it a night.

Really good game especially like getting the jump on people with my samurai sword. :lol

The game is still crashing. Ballsack. Great. Now it crashed at the spawn screen. Arsebiscuits.

Oh wait. It's happening. My 360 is dying.

Awesome how it couldn't have broken three months ago when it was still under warranty.

Same here. It happened a couple of days ago. My PS3 completely froze and I had to restart it.

Game is still fun as hell though. :D

Same here. I could hear my buddy while the match loaded but not once we were in game. Are you serious, DICE?

No freezing issues so far, is anyone else with the PS3 version having voice chat issues?

I do, and almost everyone. : (

I was hoping they would have fixed it since Bad Company at this point it seems unlikely I will be getting BC2 unless this is resolved. Then again PS3 VIOP issues seem to be a consistent problem among third party titles.

I have no idea why I found this game instantly accessible, but Battlefield Bad Company which I just bought isn't clicking.

Honestly it's not that surprising to me. The charm of this version of 1943 is how utterly simple it is. You don't have to think. All the changes that I bitched about it make it a much more arcade like but undeniably engaging experience. It's like getting all the fun of Bad Company without some of the baggage.

Now that's not going to appeal to everyone but its not surprising that some people would prefer 1943 to BC for specific reasons.

Could be the fact that everything is unlocked for you right away in 1943, where as Bad Company requires a bit of a time dump before you get the really good equipment.

It's extremely stripped down and simplified shooter, easy to get into and you don't feel like your getting owned by l33t mofos all the time.

Warhawk is a game that I feel is very similar with how simple and easy to jump into it is, outside of the flying.... similar to flying in this game is.

This x10000. Bring on the clones of this game please!

I agree about 1943 being a lot easier to pick up. At first I thought the controls were the same as Bad Company, kind of twitchy on the horizontal plane, but after playing for a few hours and finding it much much easier to aim and hit enemy infantry, I think the controls might have been improved quite a bit. Might just be placebo effect, though.

As for "arcade", all Battlefield titles are arcade to some point, but I found 1943 way better than Bad Company in this regard. It certainly doesn't get any more arcade than having to put 30 assault rifle rounds in someone to take them down, and those ridiculous big grenade trails have been removed almost entirely. Also, Bad Company had no fixed wing aircraft, and I spend at least half of my time flying em :D

The gun lethality changes everything. Killing enemies with two rifle hits or a few bursts of SMG even at long ranges is so, so much better than the spray for three seconds to kill Bad Company stuff. Already more of my friends are playing 1943 on the 360 than were ever playing Bad Company.

How do I know if I have a red arrow above my head? is there a way to tell?

Sometimes I'll think that Im in a great spot, under cover, no one has spotted me, Im in the clear, time to snipe!!! then boom...Im sniped.

Well arcade means different things to different people and as a gamer it's never been the pejorative for me that it is for some gamers.

To take an example unlimited ammo. I bitched and bitched and bitched and bitched about this. I said it was the reason I wasn't going to buy the game, etc.

And damn it if I don't actually like it in this game. I like having unlimited rockets or grenades. It's fun. I don't have to run back to some area and reload and it always gives me a fighting chance whatever the situation.

Now I can totally understand why somebody wouldn't like it. Nor am I suggesting that other games adopt this system or Bad Company 2 do it this way. It shouldn't. But for this specific game it works.

Had one freeze on the PS3 as well so far. No noticeable lag yet, or I might just be too busy running away from tanks, dodging sniper bullets and jumping out of the way of kamikaze planes that I simply didn't notice yet.

By the way, does anyone know if they might add additional content in the future?

Luckily I have had no freezes on PS3 yet. I’m a Staff Sergeant (I think). Unsure on how many hours I’ve played.

I had some sweet games last night. I think I have finally broke the curve and have come into my own. Last night I was regularly coming in towards the top and my kills were double my deaths, whereas before my deaths were nearly twice as many as my kills. :D

Infinite ammo and regenerating health were two things I was worried about. After all, running out of ammo in the original Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2 was pretty common, you only had 4 or so clips, so the people who reload after every shot ran out of ammo basically instantly.

However, after actually playing the game, I completely agree with you. I love both the infinite ammo and the regen health. I don't have to worry about which class has the stupid heal syringe, I don't have to blunder around in black and white vision forever after being too close to an explosion, etc.

And when trying to take out tanks and the like, I can just take cover while bazooka ammo regens rather than try to hoof it 500 meters to the next ammo box.

Is it just me or the vehicles feel a bit sluggish?

The game is fun though, I hopped out of a plane last night parachuted to the roof of a building where some enemies were hiding below, pulled out my knife and went to town on them. Ahh it was awesome, wish I could have recorded it.

Not just you. I hate it when you chase after somebody in a jeep only to have it stall out on the hill and then the guy turns around and blows you to pieces. fml

It seriously cramps my *rolling into the enemy base with explosives strapped to the hood* move :lol

Tanks are awesome in this game.

My general strategy is to hop in a tank as an engineer and just destroy shit. When I start taking damage I back off to a safe spot, repair, rinse & repeat. Sometimes it helps to get another engineer to tag along in the gunner seat but it isn't necessary.

That strategy usually works out well in most games. :lol

This game is the shit.

My greatest experience.

Guadalcanal - I was a sniper and hopped in a plane in the starting zone no one took, mind you this was in the middle of the game. I killed a guy and was in my plane for about 5 minutes. I was getting shot from behind and decided to bail. When falling down I was landing close to the fuel depot flag. I chuted and landed. All of a sudden I sniped a guy right as I landed saving a tank to cap the middle flag.

This isnt even that great of a story, but it was just so awesome doing.

Ive seen a guy shoot down a plane before killing him, like stopping a bull in its tracks. So awesome.
