Wow, better late than never. I just bought this and am having an absolute blast. This game is so lush and brilliant.

I love flying planes... Not that I'm any good. :lol

So, any tips or tricks to get the most out of this?
 
Has anyone been able to play a game in Iwo Jima? Since I have started playing again, I have not touched that map once.

EA/DICE servers are garbage. It happens quite frequently.

You'll have better luck joining a game with a party or a game a friend is in.

I read above someone commenting on it being the only FPS they were ever good at, and I feel exactly the same. I usually finish first (not utter domination, but still!:) of my side, while I pretty much consistenly suck at other FPSes. I am not sure I understand why - but it sure makes me love this game :) (though I have migrated to MAG, which I suck balls at).

I wonder what made this game easier for some of us. Is it the rifle-based gunplay (slightly slower than twitch-based i shoot you you die in one second! of many other FPSes)?

What I usually dislike about other FPSes is that quickly, people identify "killer" weapons. It always frustrates me, because
a) by the time I start playing the game, everyone has unlocked that weapon. It makes playing very frustrating when you have an obviously shittier start-up gear, on top of being unexperienced
b) this is probably a silly reason, but I hate just following - i liek figureing out what works for me, and not just take "that MG because it's the best one". It makes me feel i sample a 1/10 of the game.

Anyway, I am kinda ranting, but any other games kinda like BG1943? I pre-ordered BC2, but I fully expect to suck at it since it's machine gun based (i know there are machine guns in BG 1943, but they have shitty range).

it just wouldnt make any sense. actually it didnt make sense from the beginning.

Yeah a friend and I have been playing 1943 on Live recently and it seems to still be going strong. Seriously, this is one of my favorite multiplayer games of this generation. Gotta love it.

Old post I know but.

Vietnam would be amazing return. Just imagine destroying huts and shit with a huey with Fortunate Son blaring. I had a great time with Vietnam, but now it's just so dated. With the tighter infantry focus of BC2-style it would be fantastic.

really? did you play it on consoles?

its a fun diversion, buts its just kind of Battlefield "lite".

really fun for a few weeks and if DLC had come out within a reasonable amount of time im sure i would have played some more.

i just dont see the benefit of releasing it on PC at this point. or at all really. i guess there wouldnt be any harm in it. it could be a fun little pick up and play diversion. unless they changed a lot of thing, like player count for instance.

when i think of BF on the PC, 1943 dosent really excite me though.
 
Supposedly they were going to up the player count to 32, and I'd imagine that would mean a few more planes and vehicles spawning. They were also going to customize the controls and do some other PC-specific tweaks.

Would be nice if they threw it in as a freebie to BFBC2 PC purchasers, but I think it's just dead. They missed a real opportunity here to remake the majority of BF1942 via DLC - I would have loved to have played Market Garden again in this new style.
 
Im not gonna have the funds to purchase BF:BC2 so I popped this little gem back in to tide me over recently, and to my dismay, the game is extremely laggy now for me. Is anyone else having this problem, or is it just me??? I deleted it from my hd and redownloaded it but I don't think that should have anything to do with it should it?? Its really bad lag too, like skipping around the map lag, every five steps I take it makes me go back 3. :{

I can't even connect to the game anymore. The game is now dead to me even though I want it to live on.
 
I played 1943 on 360 today. The people on the opposing team were pretty bad, they kept respawning at the same point, and I kept picking up off from the hill on guadacanal. this game is too easy, bring on bc2
 
2 things.

1.) Yeah most of the good people moved on to BC2. Good pilots are even rarer now.


2.) More importantly. Lag? Has lag gone up by a huge amount for anyone recently? I'm trying to figure out if my connection has gone to hell. I ping normally to most places on PC though :\ Maybe it's finally time to play some BC2. I still ran up my score as a pilot through what seemed 120+ms jumping to 500-700 rather consistently.

3.) All lists have a 3 point minimum.
 
I just played a few matches after being obsessed with BC2 since it's launch, and y'know something, 1943 is still a fun time :D Shame DICE sees no reason to make some new maps.

And some of us are still waiting on that PC version....

Yeah, weird there has been no DLC for this. This was like the best selling XBLA/PSN game and no DLC? What a stupid way to miss a huge opportunity! A couple maps wouldn't have hurt at all.

But they got to fix this lag, which is why I just don't play anymore. But I'm happy to say that I got the most out of this game before the lag started to happen.

But this similar lag and rubber banding is taking place in Bad Company 2. Are all DICE servers like this?

Dunno, guess they took some servers offline and put them somewhere else?

And wow, EA left a LOT of money on the table. Tons of people wanted new maps and would have spent money on it. This game was very popular when it came out.

where in that short statement was the PS3 thrown under the bus?

and it's probably the servers, BC2 PS3 has similar issues in the US East Coast.
 
Just started playing this again over the past couple of days. Still an amazing time.

Finally got that horribly glitched best team trophy too. All I need to do now is hit 100 matches and I'm at 100%.

Best kind of trophy to get IMO.
 
It was laggy back then too, just like every Dice game on the PS3.
I'm sure if Sony, Dice/EA were to respond it would be a series of finger pointing.
 
BC2 has problems on PC and PS3 west coast too. It handles latency terribly.

I personally couldn't get into it, so I don't really care now though, I wish they had supported 43 a little better.
 
Anyone still play this on XBL? I bought this on a whim because I had leftover points and Battlefield is probably the only War game I like, and I am having fun with it still. It seems pretty active, although not on GAF

i only play when one of my friends says "let's play 1843!"
 
I jumped back into this yesterday as a palate cleanser from Modern Warfare 2. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to find a game with people at all sorts of rankings. The game is still just as good as I remember it being: solid, no-frills shootin' dudes. Rifleman for life, baby.
 
So people still play this? I might pick this up just to get a veteran rank for BC2 and unlock the weapons, will that do the trick or you also have to own BC1?

Bad Company 2 and a Battlefield Heroes character (free) will unlock you the weapon.

On PSN it's still very active. I assume the same on XBL.

Maybe there weren't many rooms open, but I kept getting bumped between a laggy room and a room that the teams were heavily lopsided in players. Pretty much took away all enjoyment of the game. I wish I could find the first match I played in, that was really fun going back and forth but I left to eat and was stuck in crappy games all night. :/

And do some of the acheivements not work or are they worded bad? I've totally gotten more than one kill with each class and still haven't unlocked it. Does it mean every weapon instead?

Edit: Ugh, super laggy again this morning.
