Birdy vs Nataru in Birdy the Mighty: Decode is so weird and cool.
You stole my post, so I'll post the Birdy fight before that one:

I LOVE YOU.

More people need to watch that series. Just so great.

My picks:

This one surprised me because it's a filler fight, but it's just so well-animated it has to be included (and no, I can't find an unedited version on Youtube):

Though the animation quality for this one changes partway through, it's pretty clear they blew a huge chunk of their animation budget on it:

I wish more than just a few dozen people watched Real Drive in the west. Such a great series, and has some great fights to boot.

nothing beats sword of the stranger.

However Gatts vs 100 soldiers is worth a mention even with shitty animation due to the sheer badassness.

No samurai champloo mentions? Mugen vs jin 1 was awesome. hell the series is mostly awesome match ups

Screw that shit.

Ain't got the choreography and beautiful art and animation of the original series, nor the poignant conversations that happen during those fights.

Edward vs. Greed - on the will to kill an enemy

Edward vs. Scar - on loyalty to family fueling revenge and the hypocrisy behind the character's motivations

Edward vs. Envy - on the nature of Envy and the lengths that Edward has come in challenging his principles and his fears

Scar vs. Lust and Gluttony - how powerful and scary the villains are in terms of beating the shit out of one of the scariest characters in the show

Mustang vs. Pride - the nature of alchemy and alchemists and the nature of homunculi

Alphonse and Wrath vs. Gluttony - not really poignant, but beautiful animation-wise/maybe the best BONES has done

Edward and Alphonse vs. Wrath and Sloth - Loyalty to family, again, but also Edward's more individualist beliefs and overcoming typical shounen thinking vs. Alphonse holding to more Confucian beliefs

The first FMA series was brilliant at merging great dialogue and great, stylish fight scenes together.

The original was utter shit and had no deeper premise or urgancy. Everything about the remake was impeccable. I will get in this fight if you make me.

I've heard Champloo has some good shit, but I still haven't seen it. I should have picked up the Blu-Ray while it was cheap. :(

The music, the detail, the battles. All awesome. It has the pacing of bebop, so if you enjoyed that, then you'll probably enjoy it.

Yes, a masterwork. Animation is already a given, and in terms of direction, editing, pacing, it's fucking amazing. The whole thing.

This is pretty true. Also the score by Naoki Sato cemented him as my favorite anime composer. His score here and in Eureka Seven is godtier.

Also, Darker Than Black has some great fights.

From anime that have come out from this year, I think the fight scene between Kiritsugu and Kirei from Fate/Zero is my favorite from what I've seen.

A bit short but has some very nice choreography and the context behind that fight really made it all the more memorable for me.

btw , where are these from?

First one is Bakemonogatari, second is from Magi.

What the hell are you talking about? The urgency was in the overall world around the main story. Are you going to argue urgency about a story that killed an entire country and resurrected them a chapter later?

The original anime had better art (I have stills for comparison to prove it), better fights, better animation, better music, better characterization, less over-powered heroes who had believable vulnerability, and a tighter world with semi-realistic conclusions that involved actual sacrifice, not some Harry Potter ending made to pander to the fanbase. It elevated the original material and expanded it for what Arakawa already had finished.

And I shouldn't even be replying considering you ignored every single thing about the fights I brought up.

Well since we already have SotS.

Serei no Moribito 1 2 3 4

Trunks vs. Freeza - short and sweet like most fights in the show weren't
Also in DBZ, the Cell game made some interesting uses of a lot of the show's techniques, so it deserves some honorary mention.

Brutal as Asuka vs. the mass produced EVAs was, I still love the original fight in episode 2 of EVA-01 with Sachiel.
