I absolutely love the 08th MS Team fight mentioned in the OP. One of the many things that makes it great is all the setting around it, too. The viewer has legitimate reasons to root for both sides, and the Custom's superiority is always apparent at every stage.
A personal favorite I'm gonna throw out there is the "Daicon V" robot battle at the end of episode 5 of FLCL. It's a great spectacle, and there are playful surprises from start to finish. Blues Drive Monster is also an awesome song to go with it.
So much <3 for this thread. Will seek out more and post tomorrow, but more thumbs up for Sword of the Stranger, Birdy the Mighty, Project A-Ko, and dare I say... Kite AMV (NSFW, Spoilers, brutal, etc.)? I always thought the fight scenes in it were pretty cool.
I'm not an expert. I just wanted to know which show held up more. And now I do.
How can I know if something I like is good if I don't analyze the elements that put it together.
With it lasting only seconds, it wasn't seeing how many framebyframeLPLPparries, you could fit in a minute in a half-scene, but an exercise in imagination. Because, as it is, most of the action actually happens off-screen with Jin and Kariya only coming into view for collisions, but when all is said and stabbed, you walk away from the scene with the feeling that you just saw a whole fight unfold, still. I fucking love it. Tie the contrastingly soft song accompanying into the idea that its to portray neither of them really wanting to fight each other and you have magic. You just do.
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood: Definitely enjoyed the remake a lot more than the original! Too many great fights to choose from but this one had me on the edge of my seat!
First series I thought of for this topic. Not that many fight scenes in the anime but loved every one of them. Personally liked this fight the most from it:
what a great fight to carry to the end of the series. I agree w/ Net_Wrecker in that I wish there were more fight scenes. But the animation takes a dip after the first few episodes anyhow, (then picks back up again later). so maybe they wouldn't have been as good?
Samurai Champloo - Mugen's last fight. The way he finished off the kusarigama guy was badass as fuck, not to mention the animation. Hell, most fights in Champloo were great, especially when combined with the music. Love this series.
Bleach - Renji vs Byakuya/Ichigo vs Byakuya. Both had extremely emotional impact. Renji, despite his inferiority, went down like a hero, and Ichigo's fight was plain epic. His victory was deserved, and it was sweet to see him put Byakua in his place, especially since Byakuya was portrayed as some sort of unbeatable elitist until then.
Mayura vs Szayel. Turning someone into a super human that percepts time slowly, then stabbing them in the heart? Brutal.
Ichigo vs Ulquiorra. Epic fight, especially when Hollow Ichigo is such a vicious guy. Sad ending though.
Unless I missed it, no one has mentioned the Hokages´s fight in the first Naruto series ? It was awesome on so many levels. Can't find a video of it that isn't an AMV, though.
I gave up on anime years ago when all that harem shit started getting popular. It's gratifying to know people still have enough taste to remember this one.
Wow. I got beat 3 times on seirei. In any case... the action direction and especially the episode 7 fight sequences in GIANT ROBO are breathtaking. The budget for music and art and animation was high and consistent throughout. Ep 7 pulled out all the stops.
Then you missed a really good fight because the Sakura/Granny Lady and the 10 puppets vs 100 puppets was really good.
The Gaara vs. Rock Lee was very good.
Same as Rock Lee vs Kimimaru.
Then Gaara vs Kimimaru was after that.
Naruto and Sasuke's first real fight at episode 135 I believe was the first time I saw anime fighting so good.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a mention for Soul Eater which had some really good fights. Especially in the very first episode. Maka vs Jack the Ripper (or Jack O'Lantern. Can't remember exactly).
Naruto can have some good fights if the material is good (see Pain and the Sound 4). I think the last major fight I really enjoyed was a good ol' fashioned curb stomping by the 4th. Sorry about the poor quality. It is the best I could find.
I don't understand how anyone can mention dio's fight without the far far more incredible fight jotaro, iggy and crew had with n'dour in the desert.
With the blind n'dour ability to attack an enemy without even being in the same location jotaro gang faced a dilemma, how do they fight a man who's hidden away far off in the desert and has the ability to attack using water and sense were his enemies are with sound of there foot steps things quickly turned into an intense thriller then your average fight.
Claymore - Teresa of the faint smile ranked 1 vs Priscilla (Claymore No. 2), Irene (No. 3), Noel (No. 5) and Sophia (No. 4) Part 1(can't find the other half)
This is one of those fights your already given hints on what happens since it's flash a back but it's just the way everything goes to down really leaves a shocking long lasting impression.
When your a long time struggling boxer whose younger junior at his gym has surpassed him so quickly becoming a champ in your region yet you have never had a title fight in your boxing career then your pride is really going to fuck with you man and your odds just got a lot worse when The executioner of boxing careers Mashiba joins your weight division and your his easy point getter since no one else wants to fight him, that's exactly what happened to kimura.
But like a boss, kimura wasn't going to lay down and make it easy for him no he was going to give the champ the fight of his life.
Rivals who are supposedly friends fighting has been done many many times before but never like this. when the crew is faced with a difficult decision, luffy is forced to make decision not the entire crew can live with and which leads to a moment when man says & does something he can't take back.
Reason why this fight is very different then the other rival fights
1.these two aren't rivals or any of the sort, there the last two guys you would ever expect to fighting seriously since These two are real friends for godsake you've watched them goof off, have fun, laugh & cry together the last 250+ episodes there friendship is very genuine not something that feels artificial.
2.when supposed friends fight in an anime there nearly always very even through out most of the fight but these two are very different everyway, one is human the other is superhuman and top it off the human one is injured also both very different fight styles.
Luffy vs rob lucci
Naruto
Team shikimaru vs Akatsuki's immortal duo Hidan & kakuza
Shikimaru is known for having the lowest amount of chakra(Mp/stamina)in the narutoverse and for not having any powerful offensive attacks but that doesn't matter why? cause he is the anime macgyver dude just doesn't give shit cause he can take on an army while only being armed with a paper clip, shoe laces, double sideded duck tape and some old chewing gum.
Facing of against two very powerful immortal akatsuki memebrs shikimaru work with what his got.
Rock lee vs gaara
enough said
Hunter x Hunter
Gon vs hisoka
99 verison -sorry for the poor quality this all i could find
Both version of this fight are incredible each with it's own direction, techniques, sound design and camera angle used so it's totally worth watching both.
Fullmetal alchemist bortherhood
King Bradly vs Everyone
Alphonse elric vs pride and kimblee
Street fighter II -Ryu and Ken vs. Bison fight
Samurai champloo -sunflower samurai vs jin & mugen
Then you missed a really good fight because the Sakura/Granny Lady and the 10 puppets vs 100 puppets was really good.
The Gaara vs. Rock Lee was very good.

Naruto 135 sent me mad. I had never seen a fight so intense as that before in anime. For DBZ, the best fight in the series is 17 vs Piccolo. So good; so even and so intense.
Too often anime is filled with black screens with slashing sounds, or first person dodging tricks. What, in your opinion, are the best, most technical fight scenes in anime?
I don't know about it being the best but the one I remember the most is the Spike vs Vicious fight in Ballad of Fallen Angels. Short but it's anime perfection.
Getbackers: Ginji vs Miroku
Hunter x Hunter (2011 version): Kurapika vs Uvogin
One Piece: Luffy vs Lucci and Luffy vs Crocodile round 3
Naruto: Naruto vs Gaara
DBZ: Goku vs Perfect Cell
Deadman Wonderland: Ganta vs Minatsuki (for reasons not pertaining to fighting)
Flame of Recca: Recca vs Kurei
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: all of it
Katekyo Hitman Reborn: 25 year old Lambo vs Leviathan
Needless: Everyone vs Saten
Soul Eater: Black Star vs Mifune
Toriko: Toriko vs Tommyrod
Yu Yu Hakusho: Too many to count
I would list more and even find clips, but it would take all night.
