I'm pleased. UT series is one of the best (except 08).

Can't understand why Max Payne 3 and Borderlands etc are listed there tho.

Totally agree. IMO Tom Clancy's Raven Shield is the best shooter of all time. That was the very first game with ragdoll physics. I think I spent over 1000 hours playing that game.

Can't say I agree with TF2 at #1. It's good but best ever? No, in my opinion. Hell there's a lot of picks I don't agree with on that list. Where's System Shock 2? Crysis 1? Halo: CE? Call of Duty 4? I'm happy to see Planetside 2 so high but man the rest of the list is not so good lol.

Deus Ex is a piss poor shooter. It isn't celebrated for its mechanics.

The lack of Crysis is indeed disturbing though. Played on any difficulty above casual it is one of the best shooters of the last decade in terms of gameplay mechanics, AI, level and mission design, and player freedom.
 
No Painkiller? No Serious Sam?! You supposed to be a PC-centric magazine PC Gamer? Crysis also.. people keep saying it's only known for it's graphics but it had excellent gameplay also. Pretty shoddy list, tbh.

Im sorry but the shooting aspect of Deus Ex is not that good. I like the weapon choices but the actual shooting combat is sub-standard and clunky.

It does everything else right though.
 
None of these lists ever seem to have Shogo and that makes me sad.

There are some good games on that list and some odd mentions, as always.
 
Max Payne 3 average.

Bioshock it a great game. Great story, visuals and sound. Incredible cool setting. But shooting itself is terrible.

Q3A should be at top 5, and closer to UT or above it.
Older were Call Of Duty games are really good.

HL2 didn`t age any better than HL1. Lack of HL1 is ridiculous. But hey, it`s THEIR list, so whatever. They didn`t decide for everyone.

EDIT: Both Counter Strike AND CS GO? -_-

HALO is primarily a console franchise. Irregardless of some late PC ports.
 
They seriously chose Wolfenstein 2009 over the greatest online shooter of all time - Return to Castle Wolfenstein?

Should have been in the OP. I like the list. People need to remember that they made the list, not you, so obviously you won't agree 100% with it.
 
I think that's a decent list (in contrast to many terrible ones)

It shows that FPS little by little actually evolve.
 
so what would be the best way to sort of preface any list of games?

beyond "this is FPS games"

if pc gamer had stipulated their terms for the list, would that really make any of this easier?

maybe next time we can just take the list, and make our own instead of whining about how it doesnt match our expectations(which weren't established in the first place)
 
Yay! Half-Life 2 is on the list! My pick for the best FPS of all time.

Also, System Shock 2 is not a shooter, so I'm not surprised it's not on the list.

Considering Call of Duty 4 influenced a great deal of those games on the list - I think it would fall greatly under this alone.
 
Unless they pull a xBone-180 and release a list that displays at the very least some sign of cognitive brain activity, I will drop them as a reputable industry voice.
 
Pretty bad list. Why is Bioshock on here if your criteria says it has to have solid shooting mechanics first and not just be a great story that features shooting? Bioshock's shooting is average at best so I don't understand how its even on the list. And where is crysis 1 and why is borderlands 2 in the top 5? Really? You expect me to believe that borderlands 2 is the 5 best shooter of ALL TIME? Ridiculous list.
