Never listened to this show, but my friend's a huge fan.He was on the show as a caller. He also usually greets me with a "What up douche?" which I guess is related to this show.

I find it really upsetting that in the midst of all this personal turmoil Tom had to deal with some shitty social media/social justice bullshit fallout about not having enough women on the show. Fucking A we're only 5 or 6 weeks into this thing....give the guy a little time to establish an audience big enough to allow for diversity. At the moment he has to take pretty much any guest that will say yes. I hadn't heard about this backlash until Tom's blog post, so maybe it's not as bad as it sounds. At times I really hate how poisonous even the most well intentioned movements are on social media.

indie rock, and from my limited interactions with fot, aren't as inclusive as it might be. i think tom was trying to look beyond his rolodex which is noble, but i can't blame him for not wanting putting up with the baggage of 30 years of indie rock bullshit gender relations. especially during this period of his life.

I hope Tom is able to get back to a good place. The Best Show is one of the highlights of my week and I've loved every second of the return.

I think you can love the Best Show, hope for all the best for the Dime Store Dickens in his time of struggles, and still not feel compelled to shit on people who already feel excluded. Because they don't post enough on tumblr.

I know I saw some pictures on the FOT message boards and I think there are a few YouTube videos as well. You can see how much care and attention they put into it, it's really impressive. I can't wait to dive into the book. Got a piece of Jon's phone too.

So glad to see that the show is now going to be receiving a healthy monthly income, and we don't have to listen to Tom complain that it's eating him out of house & home. $20K per month has got to be better than what they were doing with podcast ads, right?
I am thinking about jumping on at the $25 level, just for the AMA. I always have questions I'd like to ask Tom but don't want to hassle him in the middle of a broadcast. The $50/month membership sounds like it'd be cool, but $600/year for The Best Show seems pretty steep. I suspect most of the patreons at that level will drop down once they get their first (and apparently only) round of physical rewards.
As a sidenote, Giant Bomb's Jeff Gerstmann revealed himself to be a Best Show fan in this week's Bombcast. He just kind of offhandedly said, "Tom Scharpling has talked about this, but there's never really any benefit to telling someone that they look like a celebrity..."

I have been playing catch-up because the 15 hours of Giant Bomb GOTY material really threw off my podcast listening schedule for the early part of the year.
I loved listening to Julie Klausner and Tom clown on Black Mirror, a show that's ridiculously overrated considering how many clunker episodes there are. "It's like the Twilight Zone, but for even dumber people!"
