The best thing about Uncharted 3...

Alright we're going to teach you this mechanic and you'd better learn it quick...

... because every fucking enemy in the game is gonna throw grenades at you!

Also there's gonna be armored shotgun dudes charging you every single encounter.

Fuck Uncharted 3.

Bingo.
The enemy encounter design is even worse than Uncharted 2.

Still, great looking game with beautiful locations and some very cool sections.

Dang it still looks lovely. And yes throwing back grenades is awesome.

On a similar note its actually pretty great in 3D too - both the game and throwing back grenades.

You start to appreciate all these things on your second or third playthrough. The attention to detail is really good. One thing I didn't like about Uncharted 3 is that it didn't hide its linearity well.

Uncharted 4 has so much potential on the PS4.

I love Uncharted combat. It gives you so many options in its combat bowls. And yes, the ability to throw back grenades was a welcome one. Helped a lot in the final stretch of the game on Crushing.

It was the worst thing about it in multiplayer. Made regular grenades useless.

Grenades explode immediately if they are thrown at opponents feet tho. I guess being able to 'cook' them would work, not enough time to lob them away when done right.

Anyway, I hope ND bring a lot of new gameplay mechanics like this in U4.

Man, those graphics still rock. I wish I could play a trilogy package of these games on my PS4.
We all know it's going to happen.

In the beta I threw back a cluster grenade just as a shutter was closing on the airstrip map and got a double or triple kill with it. Incredibly satisfying.

Man, between the Uncharted games and TLOU, Naughty Dog really had the PS3 hardware down, didn't they? I mean, they fulled off some graphic fidelity that no one else could on that hardware.

game had its moments for sure, like those metal roof tops, cant remember the location though.

that and the unintentional underbites the characters had in cutscenes....

Categorically false, you're thinking of either another game, or of the quick boom kickback.

Local, splitscreen multiplayer was the best thing to me. But yeah, grenade throwbacks were nice.

I'd argue the best thing about U3 was the not-horrible final boss/climax.

Uh, I disagree. U3's final boss was really lame to me. Especially on Crushing where you have to mash like crazy.

I was discussing Uncharted 3 with a guy today and he told me that Uncharted 3 was a rehash of the second, so he thought it was dissapointing. We should be happy that there is a rehash of Uncharted 2 (one of the best games of last gen).

Immediately was an overstatement, but I'm pretty sure grenades went off faster if they were thrown directly at their feet. I might have dreamt it up or was thinking of the quick boom kickback, quite awhile since I played Uncharted online.

I don't understand why anyone would like Uncharted 2 better.

Looks worse graphically, and the characters felt very stilted emotionally..No introspection or light heartedness whatsoever compared to 3.Terrible villain.Less memorable set pieces.

I mean uncharted 2 is good ,but it felt like a downgrade after playing the incredible UC3.

I played UC3 first and to me there is no contest.UC3 does everything 2 does but much better.

Nate had so much less character in UC2.He was an asshole.

Even when there was plenty of time to throw the grenades back, I would always get nervous.

And damn, the desert level still looks good. Having a brown colour palette and all.

pace, set pieces, story, character development, and especially multiplayer were all better in UC2

also the controls were broken for UC3 when the game released, put a huge damper on my impressions of the game

Yeah, while you see a skill-timing move with variable input window size I just see another cinematic QTE!

You mean the one that Drake barely manages to make it to before completely forgetting his prior thirst and exhaustion to emphatically take care of dozens of baddies?

Yup. Just like how Drake manages to climb up a derailed, slippery train in very cold temperatures in a T-shirt while it's snowing, after getting shot in the torso and waking up from unconsciousness.

Couple of additional details. I think the throwback timing window's adjusted by difficulty mode (the GIFs in the OP make it look quite easy) and opens when the grenade makes contact with a hard surface so if it hits a wall high up and then drops down, you might not have time to react. And if you react too early, you lose the opportunity to try again with that grenade.

Special grenade types in multiplayer have shorter windows of opportunity too I think.

Insane was pulling these flames off smoothly with RSX.

Not owning a PS3 makes me sad I missed these gorgeous looking games. They're probably getting a re-release on PS4 though, so I'm really looking forward to that.

The best thing about Uncharted 3 was the response to GameSpot's 8.0. ;)

Edit: In the interest of substance, I adore the series, and in fact I'm a member of the relatively small camp that holds Drake's Fortune in the highest regard for its setting, but the vitriolic response to said review from people who hadn't played the game was delightfully entertaining. I'll happily plead guilty to a prior offence in "being caught up in the hype" (I consumed literally every morsel of pre-release media I could vis-a-vis Among Thieves, which in hindsight was a bad idea), but even so I managed to read said review and think nothing more than, "Okay then." After all, why the importance on what someone else thinks? What matters, in the end, is your own enjoyment.

The best thing about Uncharted 3 is Uncharted 3.

Fucking loved it. While U2 is the best in the series, I never understood the hate.
