The better $60 value: Witcher 3 or Splatoon?

Hard to say which to go with. Witcher 3 is by a far a meatier game and probably would last you longer overall, but it's a regular AAA release so it'll bomba over time, wait a few months and you'll be paying half price or less. Splatoon has only a fraction of the content and won't really be complete until August, however it's a Nintendo game so it'll probably never get a price drop (and in Europe it's already a budget price release) and being an online game you always run the risk that the online population will be a fraction of the size in a few months. You can't go wrong with either, but if finances are to be taken into account then it'd likely be better value to get Splatoon now and Witcher when it gets an inevitable price drop.

Honestly I'd go with Splatoon. In terms of online gaming, nothing beats playing with a fresh community. We don't know how active Splatoon will be in the future, so now is probably the best time.

Witcher 3 will come down in price/be patched for better optimization and a few glitches - it'll also always be there for you to play.

I think Witcher 3 offers the most bang for your buck, but Splatoon is a much cheaper game digitally (at least here in Norway, where it's half the price) so it's close. But for the same price, Witcher 3 has it.

I bought splatoon 3 days ago and already clocked in 13 hrs. And im an adult with a job.
Haven´t touched W3 since then.

So yeah, Splatoon wins. Its one of the most fun and addictive games Ive ever played. I just can´t stop thinking about it.

I'm a huge fan of the kind of game The Witcher 3 is trying to be on paper (rpg with branching questlines, gray sense of morality, lack of 'save the world' story, etc... pretty much everything most current day rpgs are lacking) but I just couldn't get into it so I'd personally go with Splatoon.

Though, once the entire community skills up, you'll be coming in and getting stomped, and repeatedly getting stomped typically can make the game a lot less fun.
hmmm, so there's no kind of matchmaking in Splatoon that keeps the newer people playing with other new players? That's a tad concerning to read because I had assumed it would be approachable to players whether you started at launch or a couple months after. I understand the basic skills won't be there but I didn't think I'd be going up against seasoned players until I ranked up.

There is matchmaking, in ranked.

Free mode just groups people together, but then all you have to do in free mode is paint the floor and you level up fast (ie. levels are meaningless). Also, picking it up now or later, won't matter much on that end as people are ALREADY decked out.

Im really enjoying splatoon, its a blast, but i would never choose a game from my b genre list (fighters racers etc, games with a set number of stages or characters, that you repeat the same content with) over a game like the witcher, which is a large deep single player adventure, if i had to choose, well with the sole exception of monster hunter that is.

Thats my 2 cents, for whatever its worth

Ah okay, that makes sense I guess. And yeah I imagine your last point is valid as well. I'm already behind as it is, what's another month right, lol.

For Turf Wars (non-Ranked) there probably isn't, since it's supposed to be for fun. Also it provides a way for new players to learn from experienced players. It's also the only mode you can play until you're level 10.

For Splat Zones & the upcoming modes (Ranked) you're grouped based on Rank, which can vary by a letter grade I think. (So a starting player at the C- rank can be grouped with C, C+, and B- players I think.)

Also, I'm not going to say you should get Splatoon now since I haven't played The Witcher 3, but you're wasting precious days to get gear (since the stores only have so much each day and refresh daily) if you don't. You totally will be less stylish than everyone else.

Witcher 3, like every major PS4/X1/PC game, is going to get a price drop in a few months, maybe even sooner. Splatoon, like every Nintendo game, is going to stay the same price for way too fucking long. Consider that, I guess.

Splatoon will always been $60, Witcher as great as it is will fall in price within a few months.

Also, why are people still saying Splatoon's incomplete? Light on maps? Ok, but it has a full single player campaign with a lot of unlocks, 20 levels for further unlocks, and it's a MP game so online games never run out.

You want an unfinished game? Check out the last Battlefield, where it didn't matter how many maps or weapons were in the game because it was fucking impossible to play for the first couple of months due to the server issues and bugs.

Splatoon has a remarkably low amount of content. Witcher 3 has a remarkably high amount of content. Splatoon has better gameplay and moment-by-moment fun. Up to you.

Witcher 3 most likely will have more bang for your buck and last you the longest. So i would say witcher 3. Splatoon is a ton of fun and has not got old yet but i do think it will slow down around the 20 hour mark.

i own a WiiU but not getting it until all the content is out
im a very impatient person

You might need to wait a year for a complete Splatoon. Content (weapons/maps/modes/gear) are unlocked gradually during the summer, and then there's a DLC in August. And after that, there will most likely be more DLCs arriving.

I would say the Witcher 3 because as of now it obviously has far more content and value, but Splatoon is getting updates on basically a weekly basis. There's going to be at least 9 maps released throughout the summer and some new game modes, along with events like splat fest. So long term (I'm talking months) it'll probably be splatoon just because the lure of new updates every week will keep making the game feel fresh despite lacking content on release. Also Witcher 3 is probably going to be way cheaper a couple months from now and Splatoon will probably still be around the same price.

What is this Splatoon and why do we have multiple threads on page 1 for days? Witcher III.

Its mechanically one of the best and unique shooters this decade.

Welp, Gamestop was apparently running a 50% Extra trade-in credit promo that I wasn't aware of so when I traded in my games, I got a good bit more than I was expecting.

So yeah, this happened:

Everything turned up milhouse!!!

Witcher 3 is one of the best games ever made. I'm not sure you can say the same about Splatoon.

Witcher 3 is one of the best RPGs I've played. Splatoon seems really cool from what I've played but you might be better off waiting till all the free content is rolled out.

In a vacuum, Witcher 3. In OP's situation where he's getting both, Splatoon. The community is there right now. Who knows where it will be in a few months.

Witcher 3 will go down as one of the best games of all-time. Though I may be getting ahead of myself because this gen has barely started.

I guarantee you'll stop playing Splatoon before Witcher, but either way: good times ahead. Have fun!

Bit early to say this about either game although I think it's more likely to be the case for Splatoon. The reason being that Splatoon is incredibly unique, whereas Witcher 3 is more of a traditional genre game done expertly well. As soon as a new Fallout/ElderScrolls/DragonAge/MassEffect/etc. comes out that's an even better open-world Action/RPG, Witcher 3 will start to lose its relevance, but there isn't really any competition for what Splatoon is doing.

Haha, yeah that's the current dilemma... which to start playing first. Splatoon should be finished downloading first so I'll be curious to see how it plays (online) while W3 is downloading. Might just spend time doing the single player portion for now, I hear it's actually quite good.

Seems a silly assumption. They're both great games, but for a lot of people Splatoon is gonna have longer legs. The gameplay is extremely strong (as it's a Nintendo game) and there are a ton of content upgrades planned.

I'm 100 percent sure that I'll put more hours into Splatoon than Witcher 3.

It is good and teaches you the fundamentals well.
