So many systems, 800 games yet you missed out on the PS1, PS2 and PS3?

i have a good ps3 and psp collection (both of them not pictured) but i must i have a huge lack of ps1/ps2 games, because i never owned these system until last year. anyway, this is not a big problem, considering that my saturn collection started two months ago :lol

You dorks spend too much on games. The average collection in here must accumulate over $20,000. How could you possibly afford that and a house, car, mortgage, etc. without having a job close to Richie Rich's salary? Where the fuck do I get a job like that? I know some of you have been collecting for 10-20 years, but others have a hundred games from this gen alone. I'm just a college freshmen and I don't want a shitty minimum-wage job if I love games even half as much as you guys.

TL;DR How do I make monies?

I kinda stopped buying consoles/games like crazy... Last I checked I was at about 45ish consoles and around 1000 games.

No one is gonna mess with my real obsession tho =)

This generation is almost 4 years old. If you talk about just 100 games for this generation, that's 25 games a year, or about $120 in games a month. You don't find that can be affordable with just having a normal job?

All those complaints about the Wii not having enough games suddenly make sense now. Goddamn. I own less than 100 games total, and that's from about 10 years worth of gaming.

I was hovering around 650 games at my max, and like 10 systems or so. But I got on a big minimalist kick after I realized I had stuff I'd never played or never would play, and sold off almost all of it. I have a mere 13 games now, 17 if you count the 4 PSP imports I need to sell away. Sometimes I miss having a wall of stuff to marvel at, other times I'm glad it's less stuff to dust and temperature control.

Should've worked out the math. -_-

It's not about being rich, it's about being cheap and looking for the right deals. CAG is your friend. This month I bought:

New
Henry Hatsworth (DS)
Dawn of Discovery (DS)
Age of Mythologies (DS)
Chrono Trigger (DS)
Dragon Quest V (DS)
Big Bang Mini (DS)
Used
de Blob (Wii)
Lock's Quest (DS)

all for $100 ($102.17). This month I spent quite a bit, normally I only average about $30 a month on games.

This should be the "Official GAF thread of Showing your collection".

But damn, several legit pictures are awesome. I don't have the biggest collection, but I will make some pics of it. Still, 141 games isn't peanuts afterall.

Somewhere around 2700-3000 games, all on Nintendo-consoles. Last time I counted was 7-8 years ago or so, so I have no idea what the accurate numbers are. But here's an estimate:

Game&Watch: 5
NES: 250
SNES: 250
Game Boy/Game Boy Color: 409
Game Boy Advance: 480
Virtual Boy: 25? (all except one)
Nintendo 64: 250
GameCube: 250
DS: 630
Wii: 300

I have collected them for over 20 years and have sold Nintendo-things for half that time, so... things kinda add up.

Should take the time to make a good, comprehensive list one of these days. The only lists I've bothered making so far are of the various GB-systems.

Clearly all electronics should be top end electronics and anything less deserves death. Where have you been? PS3 to a standard definition TV...this person definitely deserves to die. Please kill yourself ymmv...dorkimoe has deemed it so.

holy shit Kobun. I wish i had a collection like that, but i think my collecting days are tapering off. I use a program from Collectorz.com to database all my stuff, and when i did it not that long ago it came to 494 games.

Atari 2600:6 games
Gameboy(original): 4
GBA: 20
GBC:3
Game Gear: Like 20 I think, i just realized i forgot to database this one.
Gamecube: 31
Genesis: 12
Intellivision: 8
N64: 32
NDS: 33
NES: 52
Wii:16
PC: 40
PSOne: 15
PS2: 58
Sega 32x: 4
Sega CD: 7
Sega Dreamcast: 16
Sega Master System: 9
Sega Saturn: 9
SNES: 18
Sony PSP: 26
Virtual Boy: 1
Xbox1: 39
Xbox 360: 18

And i know ive probably bought 10 or more games since i did this. Minus PC, Intellivision(don't have the system), Master System(it died), I have 1 system for everything i have listed except:
I have 3 NES's
3 Game Gears
2 PSP's
A Game.com(does this even count)
A PSOne and the original Playstation
I used to have 2 Sega CD's but one died.

This is all the result of buying stuff cheap and never trading in a damned thing.

I hate the way people rag on others about their entertainment centers. Its sad but you know when we all grow to be adults we start surrounding ourselves with lots of shit, just buying everything in sight to make up for not having that free time we once had as a kid. Seriously we buy more shit than the time we have toi enjoy it all. Yet when we were kids we played all the games on small sets, played everything we got our hands on,lived more basic and had no problem with that. Because we enjoyed the hobby more. Once youre an adult you just try to recapture it by buying all sorts of shit and building collections from hell instead of playing those games. The very gaming dungeons we grew up in,the sweaty and disgusting arcades, the generic as fuck tv sets we played on,that what gaming use to be,now its like let's buy these $3,0000 tv sets and build an army of games to post pictures of on the internet.
:b

I've been meaning to update my list on IGN, but so far I can't be bothered. I currently own about 700 games and 25+ consoles (incl.handhelds). I 've also been meaning to take some new pics of my gameroom, but again...I just can't be bothered. Perhaps...PERHAPS, I 'll do it very soon, but maybe not.

obv that guy has the cash to invest in a BASIC hdtv. Like it or not, it enhances the experience for everything you play on it.

I'm curious how someone can own that many games, yet avoid the other 2 consoles this generation (as well as PC!).

Fair enough, but I never understood the feedback about what a collection is missing. You'd be surprised how many times people react to my not having Sega systems in the collection, for example. Hey, at some point, don't we all have to make choices?

As mentioned, I do have a smattering of PC games. I could absolutely get absorbed into PC game collecting (or whatever platform), but my interests already preoccupy much of the time and money I'm willing to spend on collecting. People just seem to collect differently. I tend to support platforms I buy pretty strongly, rather than a few games for every system. I do thoroughly understand that approach, however. Also, unfortunately, as I get older, I just play less. I still like the collecting (and gaf) because it keeps me in touch with gaming. If I play 5-6 hours in a week, that's a good gaming week.

I confess I AM avoiding the Xbox360. I really don't like that they break. As a consumer and a collector, I just loathe the poor craftsmanship of the hardware. I've given up waiting for the 'fixed' 360. I'd buy one if I had a good shot of not having to get it repaired in the first like 7 years, but I'm guessing that didn't happen. Has one been built like that yet? The "Reliable" Xbox360? <-- Serious question.

I bought the PS3 three times from amazon, and returned them each time, due to poor packing. To their credit, amazon took them all back and refunded my account each time. It blows my mind how they can send a $4-600 electronic item in a box with blister packing only on the top of the box. I have no doubts I'll be buying the PS3 again, though. I feel a little dirty saying it, but I really ache for HD gaming.

Just curious, for the people that buy 50+ games in a year, do any of you actually complete them all? I am probably trending towards 15-20 games a year, many of them small DD games, and I don't get close to even starting all of them. Even though I have changed my buying habits recently to not buy games I am not immediately going to play.

I've been playing video games for like 20 - 25 years, and don't really sell my stuff so its just built up. Plus I worked at a funcoland for like 3 - 4 years, during the main part of last gen. You'd be surprised how easy it is to build up your collection, specially on the older stuff. I was buying NES, and Genesis carts for like 2 bucks a cart.

My biggest collection has to be for my PS2, something around 30. DS is second, then PS1, then GC, then PS3, then Wii, then 360.

I gave all my orig xbox games away to friends :lol

Someone wanna give me a 2600 and a copy of Pong Sports? You people are stacked :(

I've got about 300 games:

PS3: 46 games + 20-25 PSN games
360: 43 games + 10-15 XBLA games
PS2: 64 games
PS1: 19 games
Xbox: 8 games
Gamecube: 13 games
Wii: 8 games
PSP: 24 games
PC: about 40 games on DVD, CD, 3.5" and even 5.25" discs.
Plus a bunch of 20+ year old Amiga and Atari ST games from times of yore.

Kadey probably has the biggest collection, but Markman has a ton of arcade sticks. I would like to see pics with all of his arcade sticks together.

Naturally, there are games for all of these...but I don't think I have more than 10 games for any of them. Only exceptions there are the Gamecube (28 games), the PS2 (23 games), the Dreamcast (22 games) and the original Playstation (17 games). I gave a lot of games to siblings/cousins, and lost a few to family visiting me from Haiti, lol.

Still trying to round my collection out and add the quasi-relevant consoles I've missed (see: Neo-Geo AES, 3DO, Turbo Duo, Atari 2600). I want to be able to say I own every game system that came out in North America that mattered, heh.

I can't hate on collectors. Especially when my movie collection is quite large. I think it's neat to look at cool collection pictures. My only question is, how do you find time to finish them? I can honestly say I've watched every movie in my collection at least once, but I'm curious if you can say you finished every single game in your collections at least once. If so, bravo!

Unfortunately most of my PS2/PSOne/Gamecube and SNES/N64/Genesis games are in storage at the moment, so I don't have a picture of my entire thing. That's over a hundred games on PS2 alone I don't have pictured. Mostly because I don't have the shelf space, my main room is pretty small.

I definitely don't have the biggest, though. I've seen some of GAFers collection. I always give out a good god damn when I see it.

And in this thread: good god damn

These pictures are a few months old I think, at least a month+, so there's a LOT of games I purchased since then that are not picture...like my current GOTY, Red Faction: Guerilla.

Man, I thought my PS2 collection looked a bit low so I went and got my list and checked off every game I had and Im missing Okami! SOB, this is the second time Ive been missing a game in the last 2 months.

Last time my copy of super mario galaxy 'mysteriously' vanished from its case. Wtf this is some bullshit.

Finish the games? How about finding the time to just try them out? I guess most big game collectors have lots and lots of games they've never even played. But we HOPE to play all of them, some day, in the future, when we have time...

BTW, about missing games... my NES Zelda has been missing for years. It was signed by Miyamoto too :-( Can't think of anyone around me stealing it, though, but I've looked absolutely everywhere.

i don't even have a big game collection and there's a bunch of games I've never played or just touched once.

i always imagine to myself that i'm just making my home like a miniature Gamefly, so that i can have a selection to choose from when I'm in the particular mood to play something new. Gotta keep that gamefly stocked, after all! :lol

I'm like that with Gameboy games. I have the cases, manuals, inserts in perfect condition for Pokemon Red, Super Mario DX, and Dragon Warrior Monsters, but all three of the actual cartridges for those vanished.
