The build quality of the PS4 is horrible

It's a shame controllers are breaking for a lot of people, because I've had nothing but good experience with the system. It feels very sturdy, and the controller feels really high quality to me. When you hold it and use it, it feels very high quality, I mean, by far batter than any other controller I ever tried. The problem of rubber pealing is a different issue entirely, but I think they've fixed that with the newer batches.

Recently inspected a friend's PS4.

A lot of cheap plastics. Seems like Sony tried to minimize plastic usage by stuffing everything in one box and using some thin grade plastic. Everything just creaks including the console itself when you pick it up.

Hey, it works, and it sells well. Isn't that the only thing people care?

I'm waiting for a revision before I pick one up.

It sells well? I'm sorry, I don't understand what your butthurt about it selling well has to do with anything. But you're right, it works, it looks pretty next to my TV and I don't touch it 99% of the time.

Better build quality would be great however, but big whoop.

Controller is more of a problem.

I think it's fine aside from how loud the console runs. I haven't ran into any issues with my DS4 sticks yet and I hope that continues.

The Dual Shock 4 is the only thing I dislike. One controller is broken and my others analog is starting to peel away. Xbox One appears to be more solid in build quality, although the design is not pleasant to look at in comparison to the PS4.

Sony really dropped the ball here, the PS4 may be the most powerful current gen system but you wouldn't think it by looking at the console and controller. My biggest issues is with the DS4 and how the triggers creak and the analogues wear out quickly. The console itself is made with creaky plastics and the disc drive isn't smooth when it comes to inserting and ejecting a disc. I've already got a problem where when when insert a disc the machine struggles to suck the disc in. My wii u on the other hand is smooth for both. Didn't Sony invent the damn disc format? Why did they use the shittiest drive of all time on their premier console?

I like the system a lot, but it's built like garbage and Sony should have spent a few extra bucks making a more robust console and controller.

Aren't you a bit overeacting? Just a tiny. I mean, some part surely feel cheap, but horrible, garbage, uh?

Ps4 is a box with electronics in.

I dont look at the box, I look at my TV.

I don't really care what the box is made of.

I do care about the quality of components in the box

If you care more about how the box kooks rather than what it does, put some flowers in front of it.

Good for you I guess, this thread is for people who appreciate industrial design... nothing wrong with that.

I don't really 'inspect' my console, so no I don't have problems with the build quality, it's reliable quiet hardware, that's good for me.

Why do you touch your PS4? Honest question.

I take it back and forth between my place and my fiance's. It's not often, maybe twice a month, but I do move it quite a bit compared to someone who just leaves it in their entertainment center. Plus going home for holidays and the occasional business trip.

Nobody sucks disks in like Nintendo. Seriously they're the smoothest drives ever (wii and WiiU). PS4 is not even close.
A friend has a creaky DS4 but I have had no problems with my two and I use them a lot.

Mine is quiet. Want me to text you a quick video?

Edit; just pm me, watching football just incase it takes me awhile to come back to you.

Yep, same here. Though my PS4 is only a week and a half old. Could get worse, and maybe they are using a better fan? Who knows. I've seen videos on youtube of loud ones, sounds like a vacumm cleaner. Mine is definitely not that loud.

Eh, I disagree. I think the PS4 itself is really well built, and looks amazing. I love the design, and have no issue with the parts they used. It doesn't look cheap at all to me. I do agree with you on the DS4 though.

The controller feels cheap. The ergonomics are amazing, and the actual controller itself is amazing. But the materials they used for it feels cheap. The controller needs more heft. The joystick nubs are too weak (mine started to peel and break after a year of use).

Ah, OK, fair enough. I just never touch it. I like to keep it in pristine condition!

Wait, some people seriously think the PS4 is quiet?

Yes? The click of my controller's buttons are more apparent to me than any noise the system is making. I don't know why I see these "PS4 is so noisy!" posts on GAF all the time, because I really don't encounter them anywhere else. Do you guys play with your television's volume set at whisper quiet or something?

Wait, some people seriously think the PS4 is quiet?

Seems to be a variance thing. Some people say their PS4 is as loud as a jet engine. Some say it's quiet. I'm in the latter, I sit close to my TV and PS4, and my PS4 is silent. I'm really happy with the sound levels.

So it's kind of strange why people have different experiences. Either it's a subjective thing based on each of our own hearing, or different PS4's and their builds yield varied sound levels (so it's a manufacturing thing).

The *tiny* iconography on them is worse still. I know people who didn't even realise it actually had buttons on the front because of how small the icons are. xD

Mine don't work as "touch sensors" either. I have to leave my finger on them for an extended period of time before it recognizes what I want it to do. There is no argument for touch sensors over physical buttons like the PS3 slim, and If we have to debate touch sensors, the Xbox One on/off button works much better.

I'd buy a €500 premium version if there was such an option. But well, they had to cater for the markets where price is valued overy quality.

The Xbox one may be lacking in performance when compared to ps4. But the quality of the hardware is far superior than ps4. Especially the controller.
