The cockroach is at it again (Jack Thompson)

When the **** is he going to stop waisting tax payers dollars with this shit? Its just as ****ing stupid as the granny thinking GTA was a kids game, even though you had:

-****ing gangsters with mack 10s and shit on the front cover.
-A big bold ass M rating
-A description of why the **** your kid should not play it on the back.
-Another M big enough that Stevie Wonder could see it.
-Lets not forget the chick who looks like she sucks cock for a living on the boxart.

On top of all that, they're letting their kid play a game that is named after a goddamn felony.

As for the case, it's nice to know that he's making it so that if a guy kills somebody, he has a bullshit excuse for it to soften the sentence; just drop a copy of San Andreas and a PS2 near the scene and whammo! instant legal representation.

SAM DONALDSON???

The game trained him "how to conjure up flaming projectiles and hurl them at lightning fast speeds while shouting out the name of his attacks, in a fashion making him an extraordinarily effective killer without teaching him any of the constraints or responsibilities needed to inhibit such a killing capacity," according to the suit.

fixed.

Phew. I'm glad he reminded me how playing video games is just like real life... All these puzzle games I've been playing could have had a detrimental affect on society.

why does jack thompson target videogames instead of americas lax gun control?

Could the family of someone who jumped off a building sue the makers of a Superman game? No. This is just another disgusting PR stunt.

if you stop talking about him, he will go away
no.

he'll go on news programs, spout his shit and people will believe him. whether we ignore him or not he's going to keep filing cases and keep getting coverage and the chance to spout his nonsense in the mainstream press.

The game trained him "how to point and shoot a gun in a fashion making him an extraordinarily effective killer without teaching him any of the constraints or responsibilities needed to inhibit such a killing capacity
Yes, because as we all know, pointing and shooting is ****ing rocket science. Guess I'm screwed if, for example, I ever want to take a picture... I'll need to play a game where I use a camera to learn how! :lol

Go play in traffic, Thompson. Maybe someone who plays GTA will run you down.

I almost wish something like this would happen in relation to me. I would love nothing more than slapping Jack Thompson in the nuts and suing the parents for letting their 14 year old play GTA when he's an obvious nutjob.

Why has no one tried this yet?

How does a videogame have more of an influence on a kid than a parent that he's been living with for his 16 years who apparently is accustomed to slapping him when he refuses to clean horse shit off of metal.

DING DING DING!!! We have a winner!

TEL HIM WHAT HE'S WON JOHNNY!

But seriously... it's always easy to point the finger instead of looking the mirror and seeing how horrible of an abusive jerkoff you are to your kids.

I've played games since I was 3. Played Mortal Kombat while I was in Jr High... I didn't try to go rip peoples heads off
Played Doom...didn't run down the hallways with a shotgun trying to shoot demons. It would have been a bitch if they were above me. Like the game, looking up would be a no-no.

I'm just sick of this "blame everyone else buy yourself" culture. Thompson's just a pathetic ambulance chaser that no one takes seriously.

Jack is wrong on a level beyond reality.
The father cleary have problems and influenced this kid in getting violent. Now like a violent make kid wouldn't play videogames as all the other kids... and he sure wouldn't play Animal Crossing for Christ's sake.
Way to mix up stuff that doesn't go together at all. Bravo Jack.

To be fair, the jury didn't buy the abuse defense, as neighbors and friends offered no corroboration of his abuse stories. The kid was messed up obviously, because even if you accept the abuse defense he still shot his mother and 13 (THIRTEEN!) year old sister in the head.

The kid had a messed up childhood. His biological mother was a drug addict, and when he decided to live with her a few years ago they were in a car accident that took her life. He's definitely got issues and I don't believe for a second that videogames had any sort of influence on his actions, but I'm not buying the abuse defense either. Neither did the jury.

The Army's missing out on this! They need to scrap basic training, and just give their new recruits a PS2 and Vice City and they'll all become superkillers in no time.

:lol and people complained about the shitty GTA: VC targeting system. It's not shitty, it's hyper-realistic. Go out and shoot someone to see for yourself.

When I first read the topic I was furious at the amount of stupidity that plagues this world and how video games are being unfairly targeted for potential violence. But then I read these comments and they made my ****ing day. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I must say though, now that I know I'm a trained super killer I feel much better about my self. Thanks Jack!

Now I'm not a lawyer, but $600 million just sounds astronomical and is, in my opinion only that high to try and force an out of court settlement, or bankrupt the companies being sued. I hope that TT and Sony stand firm though because if these people get any kind of money for such a bullshit claim, it'll only open the floodgates to scapegoat videogames even more.

Also, I'm sure that Jack Thompson is such an amazing fellow that he's not going to make any money off of this right?

I understand the family members are upset over their respective losses, but how exactly do they know how obsessive he was over this game anyway? And if they recognized how "obsessed" he was over the game in the first place, isn't the onus on them to get the kid some help before he, you know, kills people?
