Lord Panda

The Sea is Always Right
The maestro finally awarded an Oscar for his lifelong contributions to cinema.

Whoever wrote these speeches deserve Oscars as well.

I can't wait for Inarittu's Cruise movie. And that Edge of Tomorrow sequel better happen.

Very well deserved just by his career, plus he's the man that basically
"...saved Hollywood's ass. Top Gun Maverick might've saved the entire theatrical industry" during COVID.

And speaking of Covid, that's where his best speech is: "The gold standard"

I like his action movies but I personaly cant wait for him to return to Drama again.
Id also love to see him do a Tarantino film before long.

His dedication to the craft is remarkable.

The work he does behind the scenes is as incredible as what he does In front of the camera.

He's the true Hollywood equivalent of Jackie Chan.

That's cool. I don't understand what this is though. Why not wait four months so it happens at the regular Oscar's? Either way very deserved imo.

From Wikipedia:

The Academy Honorary Award – instituted in 1950 for the 23rd Academy Awards (previously called the Special Award, which was first presented at the 1st Academy Awards in 1929) – is given annually by the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Since 2009, it has been presented at the separate annual Governors Awards rather than at the regular Academy Awards ceremony.

Like the Special Achievement Award, the Special Award and Honorary Award have been used to reward significant achievements of the year that did not fit in existing categories, subsequently leading the Academy to establish several new categories, and to honor exceptional career achievements, contributions to the motion picture industry, and service to the Academy.

Now Jackie and Tom are Oscar buddies :) But yeah, the Academy took their sweet damn time honouring Tom with one.

Yeah I meant, why not give him the award at the regular Oscar's so that it's seen among a wider audience. An off time special event in a smallish room seems a little anti climactic to me. But hey, whatever those people want to do. :-P

On the flip side, the main ceremony already drags on long enough, so having a separate event just for Cruise and the other honourees isn't the worst thing either. They actually get more time for their speeches and the whole thing can breathe a bit more.

I think im in the minority in thinking Cruise is grossly overrated. I feel like he's the same guy in every movie - cocky, arrogant, condescending. A real asshole. I think hes shown he has range but he is never offered/never accepts roles that go against type. He's been that so much is wonder if thats what happens to you when your thetans reach a certain level.

80s/early dramatic Cruise is best. Before he became a parody of himself.
