The curious case of Bloodborne rumored beast mode.

DLC? But it doesn't make any sense for From to talk about an unannounced DLC before the game even releases.
Super hidden feature that is not yet discovered? Doesn't make sense either to talk about a secret.

Didn't they always mentioned that you have to use the vials with thought because it can damage you as well. I always thought there will be another gauge meter which will transform you to a beast by spaming the blood vuals. Was surprised that I didn't encountered such thing in the game.

Your beasthood increases when you purchase stuff with a lot of insight, doesn't it? So what if you just stockpiled a lot and purchased a crap ton of stuff?

my cousin's brother's dad works at fromsoftware and he got the codes not to long ago, please keep secret: ok first you have to work your way through the yarnham sewers and then kill exactly 8 rats but then go get killed by the big pig. Then do this three times. The fourth time you have to kill all the crawly dead guys and then have the crow eat you until dead. now when you respawn warp to the hemel lane and go to the big statue. now set yourself on fire until you die but BE SURE to eat a beast pellet before croaking and then when you respawn warp to the cathedral. there you have to fight BEAST LIN and kill him two times before unlocking the beast mode. also this only works if youre online and at level two hundred. i tried it and it works but my ps4 online doesnt work and the usb ports are dead so i cant show any photo proof but try it yourself

Why does the beasthood meter pop up though?

I think it's just due to the meter changing. Like, you get rid of insight so your Beast Meter goes up or down and so the effect is like, getting +1 our of how many your meter is or something causing the bar to show up because that is what happens in the game when something increases a bar (like with poison).

Breaking news guys, Miyazaki just announced that the information on this mystifying stat will be revealed "next week...in game magazines..." over on twitter! Can't wait to get to the bottom of this!!! Who's standing in line with me at the mall waiting for GS to open monday?!?!

Man...this topic is a goddamn spoiler or is it just me?
I didn't read the thread but I'm playing the game and I was fairly certain there was gonna be a beast mode due to many pointers in the game, and this thread title is pretty much denying it. :(

It's not cut content. It was never in game.

Once a person becomes a beast you can never go back. Miyazaki talking about players slowly becoming beasts isn't in a literal sense. It's the idea that when your character is racking up kills and blood all over the place, your heart goes rotten and beastly. Your hunter is part beast (Beast Claw transformation, visceral attacks) but you can't ever go beast. Otherwise your game would end.

i remember you saying you had contacts with one of the from guys? so it's pretty much confirmed beast mode doesn't exist?

Can we change the thread title to be less spoilery? I wanted to complete the game before looking up what this 'beast transformation' mode was but now it's been spoiled to me that it hasn't even been discovered yet :(

This topic is a a spoiler like walking outside and realizing that it didn't rain despite the weather man saying it was going to, is a spoiler.

there was that one line that Father G had:

too scared to show your true face, eh?

that made me think there's definitely a transformation coming but I'm not finished with the game yet

I thought that father Gascoigne had just become corrupted by the blood or whatever, like almost all the other hostile hunters, and sees beasts everywhere even though they themselves are the beasts.

I mean, you could be right and maybe they are saving it for dlc. I suspect if it was in the main game it would've been discovered by now. There is also
Father Gascoigne's daughter who gives you the tiny music box and says 'you smell familiar' when you first speak to her. It could be you smell familiar because you smell like the good hunter Gascoigne once was, or the beast he became

Update: It's not the 'beasthood' stat that is giving the no fall damage bonus, it's the Beast rune +100, some hidden effect. False alarm

-in video comments

Oh man. No fall damage would let me bypass the elevator bug!! I need details on that rune!

btw. Has anyone tried giving the marriage ring to the woman actually wearing a bloody bridal dress?

My issue with this theory is what exactly happened to Gasciogne to make him lose his sanity. Did his wife get killed by the random beasts or mob around the city? Because so far, Gascoigne is the only "hunter" that has succumb to the beasr within. Eileen, Djura, and Henry were still human. The only other NPC we know that transform are the Vicar, Old Man in forest, and First Window guy.

Edit: Not all hunters were hunting beasts like Dhura and Eileen.

I assumed that consuming
three thirds of the umbilical cord
would turn you into a beast on my first playthrough.

Aren't the mobs transformed hunters? Burning and crucifying beasts on the night of the hunt , but attacking you on sight?

Holy crap, just tried it and it works! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They were villagers to me. Like an angry mob. I define hunters, that uses trick weapons. I feel as though the common man in the game is much more susceptible to the sickness as oppose to the hunters. Which makes it interesting as to how Gascoigne has fallen so far.

Edit: I also draw this conclusion from the opening scene where once you are infused with Yharnam blood you were able to ward off the sickness (symbolized by blood werewolf) and being "saved" by those messengers along with the voice saying "You found yourself a HUNTER."

I think I have found a video that shows a transformation. Search for the gamescom gameplay trailer and fast forward to about 1:20. It happens there.

Page count has been upped for the guide since the delay; I'm guessing that it's either not known yet (like folks just finding about the Hand Lantern hurting stamina) or DLC down the line.
Say wuuut? I have been wearing that lamp since i found it.

Because losing insight makes you more of a beast.

Dang, this secret needs to be uncovered already.

It's not actually making you a beast, what it's doing is making your total potential beast hood bar bigger. Lower insight = beast bar is longer = potential for greater damage bonus. It's the same way with other gear, like adding +200 frenzy resist makes you appear to be going frenzy, actually what it's doing is increasing the size of your frenzy meter so it takes longer to fill, thus acting as a kind of resistance. When you add the gear, the extra meter that's added on starts filled, so you immediately see it decrease.

Lower insight = higher beasthood is implicit in the game's lore. I won't spoil anything here though. ;)

i remember you saying you had contacts with one of the from guys? so it's pretty much confirmed beast mode doesn't exist?

It's not my place to confirm of disconfirm anything, but I am very confident that full beast transformation was never part of the development plan.

Realistically - it's probably leftovers from some scrapped ideas during development.
Optimistically - I'm waiting for that guide and hoping there are secrets in there that community hasn't discovered yet. I mean, how cool would that be!

Say wuuut? I have been wearing that lamp since i found it.

All gear equipped to your character increases load. Try being completely naked with nothing on you, deplete your stamina bar and compare the time it takes to refill vs with a full set of gear. The difference is drastic. The hand lantern counts as 'equipment.'

Back on topic: I think the guy who made up a bunch of shit in that "leak" had some interesting (if far too ambitious) ideas and due to the generally enigmatic approach From takes to information drip for their game, people's expectations for beasthood and spider convenant just continued to be 'confirmed' as they were told there are secrets you can't talk about. I mean even stuff like the existence of Ludwig's Holy Blade was under info embargo. I was told to not mention things like the cannon, the hunter tools (magic items, basically) and Ludwig's Holy Blade pre-release. The people playing the game early on Twitch and shit kind of ruined the intended surprise. :P

Hardcore ending spoilers:
Could this be related to the ending after you beat the Moon Presence, which implies the actual Hunter was that slug all along inside a human's body? That would make sense then that you could take on other forms. Just an idea!

I was sure something beastly happened when the
Amygdala picks you up and crushes you, sending you to the lecture theatre.

It might not even be super hidden. It is just still loading.

The loading times are honestly what killed BB for me in favor of DS2 Scholar. I got both around the same time accidentally (imported the UK physical PC version and it came waaaay early), and dying only to be met with a 3x times as long loading screen kind of destroys momentum, imo...

Now I've played like up to the dog chappel boss in BB and have put like 30+ hours into Scholar >.>

Regarding the following quote from Future Press which was edited into the OP:

And there is one more thing that we won’t go into detail yet – saving the best for last. Something that makes the guide even more valuable and up-to-date for a long time to come. We can’t wait to talk about it.

https://www.facebook.com/FuturePres...08190701162/10153117955486163/?type=1&theater

I hope it's about a new gameplay yet to be introduced, but I have an inkling it'll be about an online version of the guide (for people who purchase physical version) which updates as new content is added.

I think the "saving the best for last" thing is perhaps a really in depth guide to Chalice dungeons or something. The day one update observably included two main things: PvP and Chalice Dungeons. So my guess is anything that was added to the guide to include day one patch content is related to one of those two things.

Assuming that the guide is talking about beast mode is very likely just confirmation bias at work.

Or that.

An odd thing to consider "best" since the Chalice Dungeons are hot garbage.

It's safe to say that not everyone agrees with you on that point. I for one love the Chalice dungeons, though they aren't as fun and intricate as the main game, they're a nice challenge and you get to fight lots of bosses.

I sometimes get stuck not knowing if I should/have to preface everything I say with a "in my opinion", but normally think it just goes without saying.

Don't think we are in that much of a disagreement though since it seems that the ideal game for both of us would have been a bigger more intricate gameworld instead of any chalice dungeons, if that was the option. The difference being that I would have liked the game more even with no extra content and no chalice dungeons since slogging though them was a negative experience for me.

I have the beast claw and I've never done a chalice dungeon before ....

From Fextralife

There is an unknown effect/bug where the beast claws will show up in the store without ever getting them.
You can use a Beast Blood Pellet with transformed Beast Claw. It grants no additional benefit and actually resets your Beasthood Meter to Zero when it wears off.
Can be found in Castle Cainhurst (low chance?)

Looks like you got lucky.
