The current state of SNK these days?

Hey GAF. Was wondering about the current state of SNK these days. I recently beat Metal Slug and should start the 2nd one real soon...I'd really love a new sprite-based Metal Slug. Unlikely to happen but one can dream.

Any other SNK game series to recommend to me?

Samurai Shodown came out recently, and they're working on KOF XV. A long-ass hiatus, but always good to see them back.

However, I do miss the pixel days--the 3D graphics just don't do it for me. Maybe it's nostalgia.

I thought that you want to know how those guys are doing, like future games and stuff

Metal Slug 2 is pretty rough in some parts. Still a great game, but there is so much slow down.

I thought SNK were basically just a holding company at this point, just leasing out IP here and there. Hence the lacklustre ports/releases and dodgy hardware.

I'm curious if The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match Final Edition and The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match are good ports, apparently done by Code Mystics. The other NEO GEO games I got on GOG were pretty rough ports in my experience, so I'm hesitant.

My biggest problem was that they didn't work with any of my fightsticks and only the official 360 controller. Might as well just boot up MAME instead.

Is there any emulator that can get rid of the slowdown?

They're doing great ! KOFXIV & SNK's Heroines sold very well , Metal Slug Defense are their top game " revenues wise "

Starting next year they will release two major games every year !

Nah, they're back baby. KOF XIV and SamSho were developed in-house.

Current state is pretty good. SamSho had a big showing at EVO and it's popular in the FGC. They're even doing hardware again (Neo Geo Mini, a new unannounced next-gen console).

As for recommendations, hell. Just about anything developed by SNK in the 90's was excellent, or at least entertaining enough to check out for while.

I have KoF 98 and it's really good, unlike the crap done by DotEmu which I immediately gave back and got a refund for.

I love SNK. I collected their stuff for a while. I only have a Neo Geo CD system and about 5 games. Neo Geo sure was a bizarre platform. I always felt that SNK could have been a rival to Capcom if they had started making modern games like Resident Evil, ect. Can't wait to play a new Metal Slug on my Switch!

It's happening.

They deserve a character in Smash Bros.

Terry or Mai will do.

SamSho is doing great, with their FreeLC campaing (giving the 1st Season Pass for free for a limited time after launch), adding an extra character to it and already planning the 2nd Season, I think SNK has great plans for the future.

Also, KOF XV Pre-orders spoted in Mexico.

Lot's of NeoGeo Pocket games have come out on Switch: SamSho2, Last Blade, KOF R-2, Gals' Fighters. Neat little novelties at least.

I love SNK. I'm so glad they are still around. They just released The Last Blade as a part of their Neo Geo Pocket collection for Switch. The gameplay is surprisingly deep and the emulation is spot on. Also a third season of Samurai Showdown was just announced with a Last Blade character to appear. Sometime next year a new Metal Slug will be released.

Although I love SNK fighting games and all... I hope SNK can dig into their older library in different genres other than fighters. New Psycho Soldier would be nice, perhaps an action RPG with part side-scrolling shooter, and part story-driven Rom Com/Sim? (After all, she is an idol). Or, some Samurai Shodown RPG that's loosely based on historic events? 3D action Magician Lord that looks dark and grim/tough like soul series? Or something like Metal Slug RTS? Story-driven street brawler with Fatal Fury?

They got ton of characters and IPs... but it's sad to see that they become so stagnant. I love all the different approaches that SNK used to take on early NeoGeo days and before.

They seem to be in a pretty solid financial position, which is nice after decades struggling to raise capital.

So they plan to make del taco pocket change yearly to be in a treasure trove of bean burittos and nachos?

Sure. Why not? They bought and sold Nokia, creators of the worlds greatest gaming taco technology. Anything is possible.
XGS SNK. The Future is Now: Currency Depreciation Edition. Neo Geo branded premium fridge consoles sold at 6000 dollars with a copy of Metal Slug XXX.

Believe.

In for three

SNK are dead my friend, they went bankrupt about 20 years ago. If you mean SNK Playmore or whatever they're called these days, they aren't the same studio anymore. They mostly just release low effort compilations/poorly emulated junk these days.
Is there any emulator that can get rid of the slowdown?
Yeah MAME and Final Burn both have overclocking support which removes slowdown.

Prior to the quarantine shutting down arcades, we still had many SNK arcade consoles being used weekly after more than 30-years in operation.
