The Dead Weather- Sea of Cowards Thread

I recall that the last White Stripes album had this exact same mastering problem (fucking zero dynamics), but the vinyl was an entirely different mix and therefore wasn't all distorted and fucked. There any truth to that with this album, or does the LP sound equally shitty?

I have bought the CD and a CD version of the vinyl stream that was online before release and I personally think you can hear subtle differences. I'm no expert though. And the mix and mastering on Sea of Cowards doesn't bother me either. It's an amazing album. Don't skip over it because of something like this.

Show in Baltimore tomorrow! Can't wait!

Yeah, it's true, the vinyl version is wayyyyy better.

Holy shit...Just woke up from seeing the show last night. Fucking amazing. It really could not have been better. Such a hard rocking show. Jack's kick drum was pounding in your chest, Dean was a total badass, Alison seriously sang the best I've ever heard her sing live, and Little Jack is always on. God damn, what a great show. I'd recommend seeing them to anyone who is even relatively interested.

So what do you guys think is next for The Dead Weather? They just wrapped up their tour. Maybe a second single off Sea of Cowards? Blue Blood Blues or The Difference Between us perhaps? As of now, we literally don't know what The Dead Weather will do next. Or what Jack White has planned for any of his projects. It should be interesting...What do you guys think?

I could see Blue Blood Blues being released as a single, but it's hard to tell if Jack'll do another album with the Dead Weather next (he seems more interested in this than anything else right now) or go back to a previous band (I'd prefer a Raconteurs record). It'll be interesting to see though.

All right so here's what I've heard.

Alison is currently working on finishing the next album from The Kills.
Little Jack is finishing the next Greenhornes album, then they are going on tour.

So it's obvious The Dead Weather are at least taking a little break...That leaves many options...

I'm unsure of what Dean is up to, but he's a touring member of Queens of the Stone Age and also does solo stuff so we'll see...

And then there's Jack...This could get interesting.

The White Stripes- Meg just got married...But it might not be hard to get the two of them together for a new record or tour if they want to.

The Raconteurs- Brenden Benson just had a baby. And Little Jack and Patrick Keeler are going to be going on tour with The Greenhornes. So a new Raconteurs album is basically out of the question for the immediate future.

Then there's other stuff...Jack and Jay-Z's collaboration, Jack's long talked about solo project...His Producing work, a million other things. So really, God knows what Jack will do next.

But it definitely looks like The Dead Weather are taking a break. At least a short one. The good news is that in an interview, Dean mentioned that he definitely thinks there will be a third record from The Dead Weather and they already have some tracks left over from Sea of Cowards. So we'll see.

Speaking of which...How about that second single off Sea of Cowards? I imagine it shouldn't be too far off.

It's confirmed. The second single off Sea of Cowards is Blue Blood Blues.

The Dead Weather will be releasing three versions of their single "Blue Blood Blues" this week including, most excitingly, on a brand new format entitled the Triple Decker Record™. The Triple Decker Record™ designed by Jack White and assembled by United Record Pressing Nashville, TN is a unique 7" version of the single embedded inside a 12" version. The Triple Decker Record™ will be available in a limited edition of 300 copies, 100 of which will be on-sale at the Third Man Records store in Nashville, and the remainder available randomly through mail order and at select brick and mortar vinyl dealers worldwide.

Watch this video commercial for more information on this new vinyl style.

For those not lucky enough to pick-up the Triple Decker Record™, an alternate 7" version of "Blue Blood Blues" with a double-sided cover will be available as a standalone purchase and comes with b-side "Jawbreaker" (live). Tri Color 45s of the single will also be available. The 12" version will come with alternate B side "No Hassle Night"/"I Just Want to Make Love to You" (live).

The 7" and tri-color 45 are available today at Third Man Records and via the web store. The 12" and Triple Decker Record™ will be available in the same locations on Friday, September 17th.

No word on a video yet, but the vinyl single will go on sale tomorrow.

I had no idea another Greenhornes album was coming. I'm more excited about that than something new from the Dead Weather, Raconteurs, etc.

I Feel Strange

Awesome! Hadn't heard about this yet! I'm desperate for anything new from The Dead Weather. I miss them so much already. Looking for concerts to download, anything.

Hoping they shoot a video for Blue Blood Blues soon.

Also, Rolling Stone had a Johnny Cash cover by the Secret Sisters and Jack White in their Hot List a few issues ago but I can't find it anywhere. Any help?

I Feel Strange
Whoa, this is actually a really cool track, different from anything on Sea of Cowards for sure. But in response to the post a few posts up, as much as I love the Raconteurs, reading that sure doesn't make it seem like they're coming back any time soon. The White Stripes would be the best bet for an already established band, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did something new. Can't say I care about the Jay-Z collaboration, but I'd at least give it a listen. And Third Man Records is really releasing a lot of interesting stuff,
I just wish they issued more of their stuff onto CD. I'd really love the Conan album but don't have a record player and there is no other way to get it as far as I know.

Random aside, but do you post on the Little Room boards Toy Machine? I thought I saw your name but I can't remember. I lurk every so often.

Yes I do. Not a ton, and I just started recently...Like this year. But I do.

Another lesser known track from The Dead Weather I thought I'd throw out there for big fans looking for new stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieqopqEzeWc

It's called "Outside". Was an iTunes pre-order only track for Horehound. I'm really liking "I Feel Strange". Add "Rolling In On a Burning Tire" off the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack and you may have three "new" songs from The Dead Weather you've never heard.

They also have a wide range of covers including stuff like "Forever My Queen", "You Just Can't Win", "Are Friends Electric and "A Child of a Few Hours".

Loving "I Feel Strange". Awesome song. Been listening to Child of a Few Hours too. Learned the riff on guitar. Cool little riff.

For the hardcore fans like me out there, any of you know where I can download some concerts? I have La Cigele or whatever it's called. Want to see more in their entirety. And I don't just mean on Youtube. Like whole things I can stream to my 360, have a drink and enjoy.

Jack White is the musical guest on the premiere of Conan's new show on November 8th. Thought some of you might like to know. No idea what he's going to perform. Conan and Jack have done songs together before live so maybe that's what they'll do.

Believe it or not, some company is producing The Dead Weather themed playing cards:lol Limited edition. Only 500 sets available. Pretty awesome.

Well, two songs from that Rome project were released today. Black (with Norah Jones) and Two Against one. I wasn't entirely sure if a new thread was appropriate, so I just decided to bump this one. The other White related thread was too depressing.

Two Against One

Black

I like both quite a bit, but I may be a bit biased. Of course, I'm somewhat biased in the opposite direction as well because I've never really been a fan of DM.

Came into this thread because I just stumbled upon these. I'm a fan of both Danger Mouse and Jack White (obviously) so this is very exciting for me. I think Two Against One is stellar, definitely very different for Jack White and a bit weird on first listen, but a great song.

Yeah, I can't wait to hear Rose with a Broken Neck as well. I really liked what little there was of it in that sample.

It is definitely different than his usual stuff. I think I could get used to it though.

I can't get enough of Two Against One. Think it's amazing. Looking forward to hearing more.

Also looking forward to The Dead Weather getting back together...Whenever that is. Haha.

EDIT: Also just saw that Third Man is releasing Two Against One, as well as the Black on vinyl for record store day.

I really like both versions of Jawbreaker. Although, I have to say, I think I prefer the added pizazz in the album version.

I think they literally recorded the creation of these songs. Like Dean had a basic riff and Alison had sets of lyrics she began singing but what you're hearing is the beginning of the creation process for them. Pretty cool to hear.
