The *Definitive* PSP RPGs for Vita Thread

Jeanne D'arc is more technically competent, streamlined and easier to get into. Tactics Ogre has a better story and deeper gameplay.

Final Fantasy Tactics is hardly a FF game. Mature characters, political/mystical story, family feuds, betrayal, deaths. The only aspects that are similar would be the summons, spells and some of the creature names.

Wether you want it or not, Tactics is a Final Fantasy game. Deal with it.

By your logic, Final Fantasy VI, VII, VIII, X & XII are barely Final Fantasy, since those are drastically different from their generic fantasy roots.

Oh come off it guys....geez. I was merely trying to illustrate that FFT has a drastically different tone than most FF games.

edit: I'd also argue that 7. 8 and 10 are very similar in tone and aesthetic.

Actually, XII to an extent is a good point... if only because it's by the FFT team. Exception that proves the rule and all that.

Not counting VS myself, that's SE marketing BS and was never intended to be in the same universe officially. I don't think there even ARE serious ties aside from a few items, and those are just meant to be fun extras and not something that's seriously canon.

How can you be so sure he'll get bored of Jean? I didn't get bored if it and had more fun playing it than playing FFT, for example.

Actually partial to JD because of my heritage. But TO is such an amazing game by the sounds, I probably should play both. Even open to try FFT. I'll play them in this order: JD, FFT, TO.

Thanks for your help guys.

Good man.

If for some reason JD doesnt click with you, try to give FFT a try. I suspect that you wont be disappointed.

Recently a lot of psp games had a price cut on the european store, for example gods eater burst(officially compatible) is priced 9.99€, zhp 14.99€.

I liked Jeanne D'Arc. Yes it's an easy game but it's well designed, balanced, and has some interesting scenarios. FFT/TO are sandbox/grind games which people tend to like more than traditional tactics games.

So I am torn between Valkyria Chronicles 2 or Trails In the Sky... Length wise how is Trails? And more importantly is there a definite end since we might not see 2 stateside? I loved VC1 and played a bit of VC2. With that I know what I am getting into. Help me out gaf!

So right now i'm debating on something and maybe Gaf can help me out, I'm trying to choose between three games, i'll likely be able to pick up two of them but I can't choose which two I want more.

For reference I have previously played all three, but all three would be in my top ten favorite RPGs of all time.

The first is Final Fantasy IV the Complete Collection (my favorite FF)
The Second is Lunar Silver Star Harmony
and the third is Tactics Ogre

If I were able to get Breath of Fire 3 this would probably be alittle easier, but as it stands I'm not sure how I would be able to get it through the euro store. Anyway, I never owned a PSP so I don't completely know how the transfers turned out on these and would like some Gaf feedback if possible. All three are great games so it's hard to choose which ones I want to pick up right now for my Vita.

I've heard several people complaining about the load times in Lunar. The background music also cuts out during loading screens.

The load times are pretty much non-existent on the PSN version. Only black screens (and music fade out/in) between each room.

Cause it's so looooooooooooooooooooooong and way too easy. Plus it doesn't require much thinking, unlike say FE where one false move can mean that you have to start all over again.

I liked it a lot but it took me almost a year to finish it.

Went with Trails in the Sky over VC2. I have plenty of SRPGs to play right now but only a few traditional JRPGs.

You wont be sorry. The answer to every question in this thread is Trails in the Sky. I enjoyed it over every Final Fantasy game I've played... Which is all.

There are very very tough optional side battles in Jean. They're not story related, but they test you beyond the main quest. I liked Jean, it's like Tactics Orge lite. The story was much much easier to follow and understand, and so was combat. TO has more content and depth, but I felt like Jean just streamlines everything TO and FFT does and makes it more playable to less hardcore SRPG fans. I'd recommend it over those other two if that describes you.

Honestly you can't go wrong with either three of those games!

That's true.

Just beaten Tits and the ending is bittersweet. Joshua is unstoppable with Gladiator's Belt and Grail Locket. Equip him with Deathblow 1 and use his second S break which hits everything on the screen. Everyone else PALES in comparison to him in terms of damage. Can't wait for the Second Chapter!

Does anyone know if Star Ocean 1&2 are on either the U.S or Euro stores? I can't check the US store myself atm, and if they are on one of them, has anyone bothered to check and see if they work on Vita yet?

I played around four or five hours of Persona 1 in the last couple days (make fun of me if you want, but it's my favourite JRPG of all time, followed by P3 and P4), and noticed that, when saving the game, the in-game clock is constantly hovering around the '50 minutes played' mark. I haven't paid that much attention, but I'm pretty sure it goes down a little sometimes.

Is this a common thing? Is playing this game on a Vita breaking the game's ability to accurately track time? Does this happen with any other games? It's not a big deal, but I'd like to be able to tell how much time I've sunk into it.

i think i just saw corpse party for 9.99 € on the EU store.. Us store is still at 19.99$

Those with an EU account , it might be just the time to experience this one...

edit / PHANTOM BRAVE ALSO AT 9.99...

A lot of PSP games got a price drop a couple of weeks ago. Many are digital-only games.
But still a lot of PSP games aren't up to date with their retail prices, mostly for the games already in the Essentials line-up. All Square Enix games released in 2011 cost 8£/10 € in UMD format and at least the double on PSN.

Persona 1 definitely deserves to be on the list... for those of us that enjoy brutal dungeon crawlers anyways. I just got to the dungeon that you have to navigate by jumping down random holes in the floor. By the end of the dungeon, were most people are probably spent on healing and items they give you a 25% shot at advancing to the boss fight through a series of paths. However if you pick the wrong one they send you all the way to the start again!
