The Division on Xbox One impresses Gamescom

Nope, they did.

http://www.gamereactor.eu/news/123004/Massive+don't+want+to+"do+a+Battlefield+4"+with+The+Division/

PlayStation 4 is the more powerful hardware and we feel it is easier to develop for. Snowdrop works better on PS4 and even if Microsoft do want us to shift lead platform that's not something that has happened.

THIS!!!
I am so happy that they are using the best of the best for this game, I loved the reveal and I god damn hope we aint getting a downgrade, the only title so far that has truly said Next gen to me! DONT LET ME DOWN NOW MASSIVE!

That's all I needed to hear to confirm my suspicions it was running on an xbox one. Thank you.

Before the live demo they showed a gameplay trailer from the PC version of the game, the aliasing was still there but much much better.
To be fair the game was shown on a huge screen, so an a TV it shouldn´t be that bad.

Please don't disappoint me again, Ubi.

I must admit I do not understand the context of this smiley, lol.
It's a smug expression.

I want you to be right. I want this game to be amazing. But I'm not holding my breath.

This is Ubisoft we're talking about, didn't they say Watch_Dogs was running on PS4 before when it was running on a PC? (I think they did, but I have a terrible memory).

I remember the opposite where a video was labelled PC footage but was actually PS4 footage.

PS4s would melt trying to do that.

Also heard that besides some noticeable tearing, game looked on par with what was shown so far.
So, everyone being able to watch the demo means we should be seeing footage ?

Easy to explain what's going on. It goes like this:

Someone says the Division on Xbox One impresses graphically. Trolls can't have that, so they have to shoot it down somehow, and the best way to do that (with zero evidence and leave unscathed) is to claim that it wasn't actually running on Xbox One's. Genius!

I haven't seen anyone claiming it wasn't running on an Xbox One, but questioning what was told being the truth. And that is a valid question. Someone said in the Driveclub thread that there was a blue screen happening in the Forza Horizon 2 booth too, which would suggest there were alot of games running on PC's instead of an Xbox One.

I, myself, am not asserting that it's because the Xbox One is so bad that they can't run anything on it, but that there's always the chance that they are not telling the truth. I have no opinion on why they would be lying, i'm just suggesting that they can lie.

LOL yeah I remember that, too, but I think from E3 or something, Ubi said it was PS4 and it was really PC? Or was it "PS4 target" or something.

They said weeks ago that they were gonna demo The Division on xb1, we knew about this for a while. I don't see how "why haven't they demoed it on ps4 despite not saying that they would" factors into the discussion of this specific thread.

The lead platform is supposedly the PS4. So it's a bit odd to demo on the other platform first, especially with the reports of screen tearing, aliasing, and frame rate drops. Usually you would want to show off the more polished version. Which typically you would think would be the lead version on more powerful hardware.

But I guess the marketing money is the answer here.

My impressions from the gamescom demo:

I saw the presentation today, by the way it is not behind closed doors, everyone who went to gamescom could see it.
The demo was played live from one of the developers on an Xbox One.
And it looked absolutly amazing, phenomenal detail and pretty much everything seems to be destructible. One, if not the most impressive looking game I have seen.

But the game has aliasing from hell, frame drops and tearing, but there is much time to improve that.

Gameplay also looked pretty ineresting, they showed of couple of skills and that there are different ways to complete a mission.

Sounds good but soooooooooo happy that it's coming to the PC and means that the graphics and FPS will be better :P.

If I remember correctly, the Watch_Dogs Jimmy Fallon played on his show was actually running on a PC, but I might be wrong.

Just like last year with AC4 solely being played on the ps4, The Division is most likely gonna be shown solely or the most often on the xb1.

I guess no one is actually going to talk about the content in the linked article. Will just wait for another thread when some footage is released. Thanks GAF!

Sure just like how they tried to make it look like Ori and the Blind Forest was actually being played on a XboxOne.
xbox-One-Ori-1-533x800.jpg

What exactly do you think it means?? Cause Ori and Blind Forest will definitely be running like that on the Xbox One, so I cant see the problem in that case.

smh, sometimes I think it seems some people really believe XB1 is even weaker than a Wii U, or PS4 is 200% more powerful

It doesn't matter that it's a Xbox One is a 9 to PS4's 10. It's going to itch at the back of people's minds with terms like "underpowered" "weaker". Even games that look fantastic, like Quantum Break, you'll get muted comments about how good it looks, followed by. "i bet it would look better on PS4." Nothing can stop this perception train.

Still why then pretend it was running on the Xbox sitting in front of the TV?

Honestly I suspect its because devs are afraid of knee jerk reactions like this. You go and tell people that its running on PC and that doesn't do anything to stop them from saying its misleading. This is hardly something unique to MS either, there was the PS4 NFS: Rivals demo which was running on PC. The Arkham Knight stage demo which was running on PC. Its par for the course for in development software.

Ubisoft likes making things look...ideal. You just need to adjust your expectations to accommodate for the inevitable reality. I expect both The Division and Unity will end up looking worse than their initial reveals, possibly on all platforms. I'm also pretty sure they'll end up looking good enough. As long as characters reach out to close car doors as they rub their butt up against them, I'll be satisfied.

I've only read about this, not actually seen it myself, but one bummer thing I've heard about Unity is that the cloth physics have seen a downgrade. Previously clothes would billow as you moved, and now they only react to being physically interacted with. Different builds, different things bugging out, hopefully temporarily removed because of such reasons. Maybe it needs to be redesigned to fit female characters.

Great news for gamers. Sounds like the Division is shaping up nicely on consoles. Something that PS4/XB1 owners can be happy about - more good quality games.

I'm not playing this right am I? :)

Cloth physics are exactly the same except that they don't clip as much they did in the e3 demo. Although that may be because they adjusted the length/equipped a different coat tail.

Where did you read that the cloth physics are downgraded? And P.S. you only play as the main character, no one else. You never see yourself as anyone other than the main character, even if there were playable females, you would never actually see yourself playing as one because you play as a french male named Arno Victor Dorian.

The game looks great, but not jaw dropping like they're saying, anyway we cannot have confirmation till the release window

The XP stuff? They've shown that previously.

Makes it look like you're shooting future robots. Kind of weird, but whatever. You might be able to turn that off. Wonder what the lore justification of it will be. Seems tricky. Oh man, those orange boxes are XP pop-ups, that will be unexplainable.

Also, what's that flashing UFO that disappears into thin air? That a bug or a thing?
Its a flash grenade. It floats and blinds enemies. Pretty cool.
A literal flash grenade, interesting.

Massive has only made PC games until now. This game will be fine.

This, and they've stated that the PC version wont be a simple port: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/pc...the-xbox-one-and-ps4-iterations/1100-6416824/

"As you know, Massive has its roots in PC development. We are working hard and we want to make sure that we have a very high quality experience on PC," the developer said. "You can be sure that our PC version won’t be a port, but a full-fledged, optimized version! We want to create the best game possible regardless of what platform you play on."

It's an RPG and you're worrying about "lore justification" of damage number popups? When has a game ever had lore justification for that?

Also, the "flashing UFO" is not a bug, but a stun flashbang-type gadget.

I saw the demo at gamescom yesterday. It looked like they were playing the demo off a xone dev kit but I could be wrong. As for the demo, they showed a side mission where the players had to turn on a generator. It looked good, they also showed what the companion app view would look like on a different screen. I didn't like the RPG like HP hits stats or the EXP number showing up with every kill aka Destiny and Borderlands. I think this game would benefit from having the UI elements make sense in the game like in Dead Space.

Comments on Eurogamer.

I think the coat tails look decidedly flappier and less starchy in the E3 demo.

I'm wondering about it, not worrying. Borderlands is stupid and Destiny is future space wizards from the moon. This is supposed to be more grounded from what I've seen. But I guess maybe it won't be particularly and I've let its Last of Us look/theme led me astray. Still, it's a thing one can wonder about.

If it's an RPG then it's still a grenade, just propelled by a rocket, which I don't think it is. But, so you don't throw it, it's propelled ammunition launched out of a large caliber tube? Well whatever, it's still interesting in that it'll allow you to temporarily incapacitate enemies as you deal with another threat, or run behind cover to reload or whatever.

It's a video game. No need to wonder anymore.

Nope. Not like this. Behind closed doors. Real XBOX ONEs.
