You clearly have an agenda.
thing is i'm not sure what agenda should i follow, yours or his
You clearly have an agenda.
Well then what do you suggest we do then? Ask for marketing departments not to lie to the public?
Don't fellow mines either. Because I don't have one , i just find it funny the crusade he's on.thing is i'm not sure what agenda should i follow, yours or his
Some people would actually rather attack me than talk about the company using provably deceitful advertising. Unbelievable. Y'all deserve to be treated like morons by publishers. Clearly you couldn't care less. Absolutely disgusting. Y'all have made your own bed. Enjoy laying in it.
ThisActually, you could probably just call it brazenly deceitful marketing, and have it apply across all marketing!
Why I can spot deceptive advertising and know its bs. Your the one getting bent out of shape over it.

Aren't ads deceptive by nature?
I think it's good this has been called out,I myself had a great laugh at this when I saw the quote used out of context. In the end though, it doesn't matter cause ads mean nothing except to the casual observer.
Just because you're informed enough to know its a load of crap duesnt make it acceptable to mislead those who aren't. It's up to those that are able to recognize it to point it out so others can be aware.
Deceptive ads are illegal. But I have no idea why defamation would be involved. It amazes me we don't have laws in place to stop quotes being taken out of the context for marketing. Like seriously what is stopping laws from being passed to make this liable for defamation?
Again what in the bloody tomb stone is talking about it going to change it? it's ingrained in marketing DNA to do shit like this. What needs to happen is that, the sites that are providing these quotes need to stop, providing them. What I don't understand is people saying its nothing new...so? It is still deceitful even if it has happened in the past, man some people really love defending a game/company.

Damn you Ubi! Look what you made me do!
You are clearly incapable of seeing any wrongdoing no matter how blatant or obvious it is. If you think using a quote in reference to population numbers for a beta in an ad campaign that implies it's meant in the context of the quality of a game is not deceitful than you're just wrong. Your horribly horribly wrong and I feel sorry for you that you can't pry your mind out from under the corporate ass it's currently stuck under long enough to see that.
Seriously though, could they not find a couple positive quotes in context? Those are so far from what those publications meant when they wrote that its insulting.
Deceptive ads are illegal. But I have no idea why defamation would be involved.
So people aren't outraged by a marketing technique that is COMMONLY used in many ad campaigns (do you throw your remote at the TV when you see movie ads with quotes that are spin?) they bring up a decent point that you do seem to axe to grind regarding this game so your response is to lash out and call them morons and throw a temper tantrum?
Alrighty then.
Just curious were you outraged when the Sony branded Destiny marketing came across heavy handed it was a PS exclusive?Just because you're informed enough to know its a load of crap duesnt make it acceptable to mislead those who aren't. It's up to those that are able to recognize it to point it out so others can be aware.
Are quotes under any type of law?Defamation because it's potentially damaging to the websites who they quote's reputation.
I'll be shocked if the game scores even an 80 on Metacritic.
That would be a very tenuous argument. Really you could just sue Ubi in civil court for violating FTC rules. But it would be a lot of work for no real gain.Defamation because it's potentially damaging to the websites who they quote's reputation.
I guess not? It's weird actually, there have been a massive amount of articles about The Division and the betas and the upcoming launch. And the buzz about the game has been pretty positive. So kinda weird that they couldn't find anything else.
Then again,we say they "couldn't" maybe they just took the first thing they found?
Who knows what goes on behind the scenes.
"Yo joe, make an ad with two awesome quotes, you have 2 hours"
For the marketing to come out guns blazing like this is pretty damn funny. I'll be shocked if the game scores even an 80 on Metacritic.
The game's not even out yet.
Of course it's referencing the beta lol
But even that being said, any reasonable person knows that a community may not be the same size forever.
These are very general, blanket statements that an average person would accept as standard praise for a game.
The links you've shown to their real significance really don't stray that far away from the statements themselves.
There is no gross misrepresentation here.
So you didn't call anyone morons but said they deserve to be treated as morons?Reread what I said. I never called anyone morons I said they deserve to continue to be treated as such since that's what is happening with misleading advertising campaigns like what I've highlighted in the OP. They seem perfectly happy being mislead and lied to like they don't know any better.
I'd be shocked if it scores less tbh![]()
So there is interesting. That would be a very tenuous argument. Really you could just sue Ubi in civil court for violating FTC rules. But it would be a lot of work for no real gain.
The advertisement is not an advertisement about population size. It's an ad for the game. As such the quote is implied as meaning the quality of the game "The Division" blows the quality of the game "Destiny" out of the water when it says absolutely no such thing in its original context. How is that not misleading?

has no relation to using misleading out of context quotes. All the quotes for evelbe were completely in context they were just horribly wrong. The evolve campaign is a fault of the media coverage whereas the issue in the OP points directly at the publisher. While they may both be symptoms of the same evil (game marketing) they are not comparable case wise.
Even if it doesn't it won't matter because full proper reviews won't be out for at least a week post release due to Ubi not releasing early review copies. By that point it will already have sold in droves.
Just curious were you outraged when the Sony branded Destiny marketing came across heavy handed it was a PS exclusive?
Hell while I wasn't following this board but was still somewhat more informed than the average consumer and I thought it was a PS exclusive.
That was just as deceiving. Are you going to expect everyone to reject the PlayStation in return?
This is not even near being a new practice.
Show me where Destiny advertising used out of context quotes to imply a completely unintended meaning. You can't because it didn't happen. We aren't talking about misleading wording here we are talking about implying a context for quotes that was never intended. This is certainly not something o have seen anytime recently in gaming advertising and to me it is absolutely a new low. If you don't agree that's fine but you need to either discuss the actual topic of the thread and stop with the thinly veiled straw man attacks.
I played the closed and open beta for amount of time. About 10-15 hours. I mainly played with friends but the beta got old quick.
Now that I'm playing the Uncharted 4 beta...I realize how bad the shooting, cover mechanics, and overall fluidity is for The Division.
For the marketing to come out guns blazing like this is pretty damn funny. I'll be shocked if the game scores even an 80 on Metacritic.
You made a thread about a common marketing tactic, spun it out as some Check This Crazy New Bullshit Out, and then got rightfully laughed out because literally no one is surprised about this shit anymore. No one's saying it's not deceptive, it's always been deceptive, but people are calling you out because you're trying to manufacture some controversy here.
I'm not on any sort of Division hype fumes either, so you can check that ol' bullshit out the door too.
Well the user reviews are gonna be the usual 10/10 and 0/10 drivel from blind fanboys and blind haters.
I expect the "professional" reviews to have massive swings from 9/10 all the way down to like 4/10 with websites who want their clicks from furious fanboys and of course the usual "good pals with the publisher" squad and their extremely positive reviews.
I personally love the game, but I also played it myself for 30 hours.
reviews are basically unuseable nowadays. Watching footage on youtube and twitch or playing the game yourself of course is the best way to "review" if you will enjoy something.
That doesn't make it OK.
Well then what do you suggest we do then? Ask for marketing departments not to lie to the public?
