The DS4 is the worst built controller I have ever used

My x button started sticking today or it seems like there might be something wrong with the spring underneath. All I've been playing is Battlefield 4. Anyone experience this?

Agree that this by far the most comfortable controller I've ever held, it feels so natural, but the padding on the left stick has worn down and is completely slick, without any grip. And the R1 button keeps sticking. I ordered a replacement, hopefully it lasts longer than a month, i can't afford to buy a new controller every month.

I've put a lot of hours on my DS4 and mine is rock'n just like it did when i got my PS4 on black friday. Love this controller...I personally was never a big fan of the DS controller because i just favored the Xbox game pads over the last two generations but man..Sony really made the DS4 a NICE CONTROLLER!! It's by far my favorite controller..

My DS4 is in great shape, outside of the battery life.

My sticks, buttons, triggers, etc, all feel fantastic. I've had the thing since launch, and the trigger still looks and works like brand new. Analog thumbs peeling off? I don't even know how something like that would happen. That's just weird. Just for the record, I'm not saying this shit doesn't happen because it hasn't happened for me. It's obvious that it does.

I'm fortunate in that, so far, I haven't come across these things, and I use my PS4 daily. Not to mention that my wife is at home all day, and also uses the PS4 for gaming and television.

There is no spring underneath the button. Its a rubber pad which depresses and makes a connection on a board. Take it apart and clean it/make sure the rubber pad is in the correct position.

I love the DS4 however I still prefer the DS3... lol! now if the DS3 had the DS4's triggers, underside grippy coating plus it's D-pad it would be perfect for me.

I still like it a lot though.

I find the controller to be the perfect fit for my hands. I tried going back to play the ps3 but the ds3 is shit compared to the ds4. Man,I can game for hours with the ds4 and my hands won't cramp up. I can't say that for any other controller, except the Xbox One controller since I haven't played long with it. I love it over the 360 pad. As far as build quality, I find it to be good. It's solid and the perfect weight. I don't have problems with any part of the controller or trying to reach buttons.

I just got an xbone Wednesday and while I love the controller, those fucking sticks are way too loose. Not a lot of resistance in them at all and they sit even higher. Had to turn sensitivity down in bf4 to 14 when on ps4 I have it set to 22.

The DS4 moulds into my hands better than the DS3 did, but I still think it looks butt ugly. Also those eraser analog sticks feel weird to me, and the left analog and right analog stick feel a bit too spaced apart now. It's an okay controller, I suppose. As long as it gets the job done.

If the DS3 didn't have horrendous L2 and R2 triggers, I'd still be using it, actually. lol

These comments will never end will they?

Its like somebody who never experienced the RROD with the 360 trying to tell everybody else that its an issue of them not taking care of their system and that there is nothing wrong.

Is it so hard to see that the vast numbers of people experiencing problems with this indicate an obvious widespread problem? And don't forget that many people are saying that this happens within weeks. Not months or years, but weeks.

And *even if* this is somehow related to the oils on people's fingers, do you not think that there is something horribly wrong when a controller cant stand a bit of video game hands for weeks before breaking down? Does it need to put a disclaimer on the package saying that you need pristinely clean hands or else your product will be useless in less than a month? And that if your hands start to sweat a bit while playing(perhaps because of the excitement/tension in a game), you have to stop what you're doing for the sake of preserving the controller? Doesn't this sound awfully ridiculous? How come other controllers have never had this problem? Is there something about the PS4 that is just causing people's hands to oil up more than before? Stop trying to rationalize things in order to defend your Sony. This is something that needs addressing.

Just because some of you have not yet experienced any issues does not nullify that there are build quality issues seeing as a sizable chunk are having issues, it's definitely not an isolated incident.

i have three DS4's....

1-came with lauch day NA PS4
2-picked up at gamestop the week before launch
3-blue controller imported from the UK...

they all get extensive playtime since the battery life on them is atrocious they are on a rotation...

not a single one has even the slightest hint of wear on the sticks...and i dont take good care of my controllers at all...

Iv used mine at least 3 hours a day since launch and haven't had a single problem, honestly I keep waiting for something to happen but it hasn't yet. I haven't been in the thumbstick thread in a while so I'm not sure how widespread it is.

It is also far and away the best controller I have ever used, really noticed how tight it is after playing the PS3/PS4 versions of Tomb Raider quite close together.

Not very comparable. The conditions for the rubber to peel off is simple - you just have to puse it normally. RROD most likely involves other conditions like ventilation in the room, temperature or how hard the game is pushing the hardware or something along those lines.

The seems like just a bad batch as opposed to general build quality.

If we're talking about build quality then the DS4 has a loooooong way to go before I consider it worse than my five or six broken 360 controllers.

Every playable DS4 I've seen at a store has it's analogue rubber ripped off. Seems like poor quality from Sony.

I briefly handled one at a Target the other day and immediately noticed that the rubber on the sticks was completely different than the rubber on my sticks at home. It was still totally intact at the store, but it felt softer and produced more friction between my thumb and the stick. It was clearly a different material.

I want to say this explains why some controllers have problems and some don't, but it seems like if it was that simple everyone would have figured it out a while ago.

Are the issues with battery life universal or is it restricted to a few people? It sounds annoying. Plus, it seems as though there is a bad batch of DS4s and I'm hoping Sony is aware of this fact. Twitter, anyone? My ps4 arrives in march and fingers crossed I don't have any problems.

Anyway, my deepest sympathies, OP. There's nothing worse than having issues with a newly purchased product.

I feel the exact opposite way.

The build quality feels very solid and tight and my analogs look as good as they did when I first got the system in November and I use my system nearly ever day for a couple hours.

Edit: I would like to add that even though I like the feel of the 360 controller more, the build quality is far worse imo. The first of my three 360 controllers got a soft right bumper almost immediately. It eventually got so frustrating I just bought a new one. The next one had a faulty battery connection and would only maintain battery power for a couple hours before it had to be reseated. The final lasted a while but the rubber on the left analog eventually worse off in spots.

Have people been tracking serial numbers on the controllers/consoles? I expect Sony will fix this quietly and you'll have to find serials above a certain number for fixed controllers.

I have one of the launch console controllers that was supposed to have the rubber tear quickly, but after getting a decent amount of playtime on it, the sticks are still flawless.

I've had the sticky R1 as well. At first I used a Qtip dipped in rubbing alcohol to get what I assumed to be residue out. It worked, but only temporarily, so one day I grabbed a cotton ball doused in alcohol and went to town on that button. Haven't had a problem since.

The X1 is worse, the DS4 is good. The X1 controller feels hollow and the component shell pieces seperate enough that you can feel them moving when you grip the controller. Thats the worse feeling for a controller

I sent both controllers I got with my launch player edition bundle back to sony today.

They both developed the same fault, the R2 button wouldn't return to the original position when pressed.

I've played a lot of FIFA since i got the system, and reading online other people seem to be having the same issue with their controllers. I think this game is killing them......

Funny, I think it's the best controller I've ever played (and I've hated all of the previous PS renditions before it). Maybe I play mine like I play my guitar--sweet and lightly.
