The Evil Within 16 minutes gameplay video

This thread is incredibly painful to go through. On one hand we have a thread in which people are 'demastering' games to PS1 graphics, and people are losing their shit. But in this thread some people are extremely disappointed... despite looking nothing like a PS1 game.

Yeahh, those were the words I was looking for. Painful. My god poor Shinji Mikami.

I don't think anyone in here is saying that, and if they are not being serious. But this video shows very poor performance and you really can't argue against that (based on these videos). So I would hope it was his setup, the capture..something. When I put this in my PS4 and if the performance chugs like that, I will be pretty disappointed. And it has nothing to do with it looking like a PS1 game because clearly it doesn't.

This might be one of the last mid tier level games on consoles from a major legendary Japanese figure like Mikami, we all know its not going to sell all that well, so enjoy it for now.

Because in a few years you will be begging for this

I love survival horror but I have no idea why we should call "The evil within" a survival horror game?

Because it is survival horror lol. I mean... the two words just fit. There's no other way of going about this...

They'll be begging for it six months after release and still won't even acknowledge it.

Mikami's still the king of satisfying over the shoulder aim->shoot gameplay. Dem fucking headshot splatters...!

mmmmmmmm

You can feel the art director from REmake works on this.

I especially love the outdoor areas. The fog. The lightning. The art direction. It's all really good.

It gives me major village at night vibes from Resident Evil 4. The area also looks great visually.

Every Evil Within thread is painful to go through. I understand why survival-horror is a dead genre these days, it's unbelievably sad.

Most people's worries or concerns have nothing to do with it being survival horror though, or that they want it to be more survival horror than it appears to be.

I love survival horror but I have no idea why we should call "The evil within" a survival horror game?

Because Shinji Mikami originally coined the phrase when he created RE and has since defined it clearly several times, in addition to using it to describe this game, despite a buzzword-hungry gaming community applying it incorrectly to anything and everything with a cliché horror motif.

B-b-but framerates!

Well as they say, if you walk around with shit covering your nose, everything you smell will smell like poo.

I do wonder what the reception of the game will be. So far i don't think its had a lot of marketing. Has it? I guess Pewdipie playing this will get it some attention because of his following.

To bring some positivity to this thread, despite my own worries I think this will turn out to be a good game, and certainly better than the game may people are worried it will be. The team behind this game is responsible for many of the best survival horror games ever made, and I can't believe that a horror game that's directed by the guy that brought us RE, REmake, RE4, and Dino Crisis will somehow massively fuck up a horror now. At the very least, the game will be a creative and ambitious game, and it has great art direction to boot. Besides, if it sells well (lol :( ) then maybe survival horror will see a resurgence. And it's better to have people worried about framerate or texture pop in than the actual content of the game.

of all the games I've played at e3 this year this was the most disapointing, by far.
of course I had high expectation so maybe that's why.

lets hope they polish the shit out of it before it comes out, cause that was really rough and underwhelming.

man... lots of people will be disapointed when this comes out... lol

I'm disappointed now reading your post. I haven't seen a game like this in like a decade and all the footage I've seen looks great, I highly doubt I won't enjoy this come October.

I hope so. I think a lot of the people here are excited about the game just because of Mikami. Thats about it. If it was not him behind the project... i would be mildly interested, and check out whenever it comes out. So yea.. i think people have faith and are interested in the project because of him. But then fi they keep showing this kind of footage, then people will give their thoughts.

I think part of it may be just the selection of footage or even that the game doesn't 'show' well. I know if you someone showed me a random couple minute clip from of the classic RE games I wouldn't have thought it would be very good to be honest. That's not to say we can't express worried or whatever, as I have a plenty of concerns that I've voiced. But after Wolfenstein I'm not ready to count out a game because it looks bad, or rough, before it comes out, especially when it's made by such talented people.

It's already been confirmed that the game is done and that the last 3 or so months are going to be dedicated to simply polishing the game up.

I can understand why people would be a little worried - it definitely looks rough now...but at the same time it wouldn't be fair to brush it off yet.

Obviously Mikami's name is going to draw attention, but I think if Bethesda were publishing a Japanese horror game on consoles, people would be paying attention regardless of who's directing.

No way... that can't be a PC build, and if it is then the game has a long way to go to look and play well.

Serious question: Do you honestly believe Bethesda would send the most watched YouTube channel in the world an interior 360 copy to promote their upcoming video game?

This is PC. Without doubt.

Agreed. I think in all. everyone here wants the game to be successful, cuz we love horror and survival games. I hope the game is great, and it messes with your mind. I have high hopes for it.

Sometimes marketing do weird things. Maybe its easier to get a build ready for him to play on console than a pc build. But who knows. Count me as not impressed with the video quality for now. The game looks alright, and rough around the corners. I hope this is an alpha build or early in the game.

The game looks good to me.The only thing that concerns me is the framerate but if they can polish it up nicely and get it running nice and smooth i can see it being a very enjoyable horror game.

At best it's an E3 slice or older build. It looks much further then alpha.

But hopefully the last months of polish will bring the game where it needs to be.

In terms of quality I think this game is far closer to Shadows of the Damned than it is to Resident Evil 4.

Technically it seems inept too considering it's only rendering at 800p (I know it will look like 1080p with borders but as far as the console is concerned it's running at 800p).

I really want this to do well but they are really shooting themselves in the foot with the October release date. Should have been a summer title or heck... just postpone until January-February and polish the framerate/visuals/length a bit.

I like to support mid level titles but it will be difficult to drop full price money on this with so much competition. While everyone is still busy grinding Destiny gear, we have Assassin's Creed, Driveclub, Battlefield, Alien, Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age, Borderlands, GTAV Remaster, and Evolve all in the same month. I am not saying that all these titles appeal to me, but picking up even 2-3 of these would put a major dent in the wallet.

Unfortunately, I think you'll be able to pick this game up a month after launch for 30-40 bucks in a buy 2 get 1 free sale.

Technical issues and originality aside, the game looks pretty good.

Yea. I think the whole mind twist theme is gonna be interesting. I dunno what really is going on. But main character looks pretty unstable. I don't know what is real or not so far. I hope its pretty twisted and full of surprises. :)

I am watching these videos and I notice a few texture pops, but it seems very playable and great to me. That and these videos are hosted on youtube, so you get the worst imagineable quality on that site.

So, atmosphere is really good and gunplay seems satisfying. I hope the game will also have enough exploration, puzzles, and item menagement.

Can't wait to play it. This and Bayonetta 2 in the same month... october is gonna be so good.

This game seems to have a number of interesting systems in place but the implementation and the way they all come together feels extremely janky.

Has anyone used the analogue "Saw meets Inception" to describe the aesthetic? That's really the vibe I get. I can't wait to check it out.

Has any PS3/360 footage been shown?

Kinda doubt the low framerate are recording issues like the guy in the video says, seems more like damage control.

I watched all three now and I am convinced I will love this game. Especially with headphones on and all lights off. I know it's a youtube video, but I think the graphics/visual style look great. Not disappointed at all. If it looks like that on PS4 I'll be happy.

My only concern is how long the game will be and if it'll have a lot of content. RE4 took me at least 20 hours the first time and I loved every second of it. Think after that it was considerably lower. Like maybe 12 (not using new game+). Just would love a 10 or so hour game that's awesome the whole way through. And maybe throw in some extra modes to play through.

Thanks for the link!

I want this game now, the good definitely outweighs the bad for me. I love the lighting and the atmosphere/environments. The combat looks pretty good for survival horror too, satisfying weapons, but nothing that makes you feel unstoppable. It all seems like a good mix for a survival horror game.

All I need to be happy now is confirmation the PC port is stable, won't be delayed (-.-) and works well with kb+m! (Plus hopefully those dumb black bars can be removed!)
