The Evil Within 16 minutes gameplay video

Aside from the commentator and the framerate capturing issues, game looks fantastic. I have a great feeling this will turn out to be everything I've been hoping for and yes, it's my most awaited game. I have huge expectations and I honestly believe they will be fulfilled!

Thanks for the info . Gameplay felt like RE4 , and art direction seems to be on the right track, loving it in fact . Then again anyone thought the UI is slightly cartoonish especially the icons and during items pickup ?

Regardless , can't wait for this been waiting the game since its first reveal as Project Zwei .

Yeah, I'm not huge on the UI (although the weapon selection screen looks cool). I also really don't like the cartoony bright red blood that gets on the screen when you take damage. It looks like ketchup or something.

That effect on healing was awesome haha. Its gonna put an edge to trying to heal while facing enemies. I am looking forward to this game.

I think that effect happens only when you use the item that extend your max life bar. It shouldn't happen with the other healing items.

UI is slightly cartoonish. Also, some of the items off the floor, like the green goo are a bit cartoonish.
I don't think it's all that a big deal, but hopefully the game has tons of options to remove the UI all together.
The game looks great, day one for me :)

The only thing I can really complain about is the barrel breaking for items and all the oversized items that you pick up like goo and ammo, ammo boxes seem like they're 5x too large.

It's a minor gripe, I'm way too hyped for this game to let something like that bother me too much.

I think it was already confirmed that you can turn off what little HUD there is if you want.

Dead Space 1 had the horror game HUD done right . It's not really a big deal though , but everything adds abit to the atmosphere .

They have a long (starts at the 7 minute mark in the part 2 video... I would say its about 30 minutes long) demo of this at comic con in the xbox lounge on Xbox one. The tech is janky but the combat is pretty satisfying. They also limit your ammo significantly which gives it a good survival feel that is lost in the new resident evil games. Some of the mini games, such as disarming the traps on the walls feel pretty gimmicky to me and break the flow. One downer for me was that the loading time was really bad. Every time I died it felt like I was waiting forever to play again.

this game needs to be optimized ASAP.

so much stutter.

This is actually posted in the first video from PewDiePie

(Sorry about low framerate, it's due to problem of recording).

We also continue to work on optimizations for the game, it's looking better and better each day. From playing a newer build of the game at my desk, I can tell you that many of your concerns are being handled.

Awesome to hear. Do you know when we'll get more information on the game? Was kind of wondering if it might have any extra modes or something similar to Mercenaries in Resident Evil. Or maybe even something entirely different. Kinda curious about gameplay length for a first run. Kinda doubt you can give a range on that though. Very much looking forward to picking this up for PS4 day 1 though.

With Rage, simulation speed is tied to framerate on the PC version, so you can't run it beyond 60. This game is targeting 30 on consoles, does that mean the PC version will be limited to 30?

I'm on a media blackout until the game comes out.

Semi glad not to have to watch a PewDiePie video, the guy just grinds my gears. Though I'm really interested to see some gameplay at the same time, but I don't want to spoil myself like I did with RE6 back then. D:

We will be putting out more videos and features -- probably a limited amount of Twitch streaming, too. This is just a small one, but from my trip to Japan, we're putting some fun, dev specific stuff together.

We're also very aware of not spoiling too much on a survival horror game. We want you to experience the moments at home -- hopefully with the lights down and some good headphones :)

It happens with large medkits, which also extend your max life bar.

Those are actually pretty rare. By that point in the game (Chapter 9), I've only come across two of them. The more common health pickup is a syringe that gives you a fraction of your health back.

You need to be careful using either the syringe or med kit -- as you apply them, enemies can still strike your character.

With this being idTech5, I'd just assumed it would run at 60fps on all platforms. I'm a bit surprised to learn it's 30fps with frequent framerate drops.

So today on Bethesda Blog, we've announced that we're letting everyone vote on which reverse packaging option will be on the flip side of the cover.

Here's your options -- head to Bethblog.com to vote -- and also for a chance to win a signed copy of the game at release.

These are pretty damn cool

Edit: voted for Twisted. It's no surprise Asylum is in the lead, but I much prefer the nightmare psychotropic nightmare imagery of the other two. They're all cool though, an the asylum one has a nice 70's horror vibe going for it.

Yo guys, hating on Pewdiepie is old stuff, its time you deal with it. Seriously all the hating is even worse than him.

As for Evil Within, those framerates ughhh, but the atmosphere is great, reminds me of a good Resident Evil game

If you had read this thread, you'd know that at least a good portion of those bad framerates are actually pewdiepie's fault.

The framerate was an error in PewDiePie's streaming setup. And gstaff said he's been playing new builds as they come and it's getting more optimized each time basically. I have no doubt this'll play great since his videos didn't bother me.

EDIT: Lol I think Asylum is pretty much guaranteed. I also chose that one.

So does anyone know the target frame-rate of this game? I personally assumed it was 60fps as IdTech5 was said to be "hard-wired" to run at 60fps.

The cynic in me doesn't believe this one bit. It doesn't help that pretty much every preview so far has mentioned the less than stellar framerate. I'm really hoping I'm wrong, as this is easily one of my most anticipated titles.

Yea I'm all for the no smoke without fire thing, but it definitely wont be as bad as it was in the videos. Firstly the recording is at least partially to blame for the frame rate. And secondly, they're getting (roughly) 3-4+ months to work almost exclusively on the performance/polish, as apparently the game itself is finished. I'm not expecting perfect frames, but I', certain it won't be much of a problem.

So I think I'm probably convinced enough to preorder - lots I liked from the videos. Plenty I didn't like too, but even Resi4 had a large amount of problems (started playing it again recently and was kinda shocked - still love it though lol).

Just hope there's nothing bad happen with the PC version (delays/poor porting or whatever). If it's fine I think I'll really enjoy myself playing this.
