Looks like Chuck Norris is out for EXP 3 and won't be returning....

No ‘Expendables 3′ for Chuck Norris

Last weekend audiences were treated to a ’80s action star extravaganza. The Expendables 2 marked an explosive-filled reunion for former Planet Hollywood investors Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis, and put them shoulder to muscular shoulder with the likes of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Chuck Norris.

Even before Expendables 2 released there was discussion of whether a threequel was already in the works, and a few members of the cast confirmed our suspicions. While the plot of that film might border on the absurd, the assumption is that no matter where Expendables 3 takes audiences, the film will build on its already established cast of action icons.

The Walker Texas Ranger star does sing the praises of the Expendables 2 production, calling it better than the first – and even compliments Terry Crews on his “tree stump” biceps. Even so, for Norris, this return to action was just a brief visit.

It doesn’t surprise us to hear Norris is done – especially considering the amount of physical torture and pain some of the production’s principal actors had to go through. While nothing as shocking as Stallone breaking his neck during production occurred this time around, there were surely more than a few bumps and bruises. At age 72, Norris doesn’t have the physicality he once did to endure such grueling physical strain. (Though we hear that every time old age tries to reach Norris, he kicks it in the face.)

Another reason for the action star’s departure could have been disagreements over the film’s violent content. A few months back it was revealed that Expendables 2 would be rated PG-13 (the first film was rated R), due to Norris’ insistence. Sylvester Stallone then came out to assuage fan fears saying that the film would be R, and it would be a hard R at that. While ratings and violence are probably not absolute deal-breakers for Norris, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they played a factor in his decision to move on.

Anyone that’s interested in seeing some of those previously-mentioned bruises being created, should look no further as we have a clip from The Expendables 2‘s epic showdown between Jean-Claude Van Damme and Sylvester Stallone. This fight between two of the ’80s and ’90s most prolific action stars was worth the price of admission alone. Van Damme even pokes fun at that fact with the line, “I want my money’s worth.”

We wont say whether the entire fight delivers, but we do endorse Norris’ statement that Expendables 2 is better than the first movie (read our review). It’s unfortunate that he won’t be returning, but there are plenty more intriguing casting possibilities out there: for example, Harrison Ford and Clint Eastwood are supposedly being courted for roles in Expendables 3.

The Expendables formula – bringing high-profile action stars together with more explosions than any one budget can hold – appears to be catching on. Maybe in a few years, audiences will not only see the release of The Expendables 3, but a female Expendables film as well.

It sucks that Norris is kind of a softy now. He cried about the R rating when he used to stone face kill dudes in his movies. What did he even do in EX2 that's so physical besides tell an awesome joke and shoot some guns in God mode.

He was awesome in the movie and fulfilled his role. They don't need to bring him back again anyways.

Gonna watch it later tonight, finally. I haven't been so hyped to see a movie since Rocky Balboa. I'm sure I'll weep many a manly tear, I was born to watch this film.

I really hated the first one - not because of what it is, but because it felt like Stallone didn't even care about making a decent movie out of his initial idea. Should I give this one a chance ?

Simply amazing. It was everything I wanted from the first film and then some. Van Damm was a fantastic villain, and his fight with Stallone was worth the price of admission alone. Thank you Mr. Stallone for making the movie I waited my whole life to see, it was well worth the wait.

A guy with a classy avatar like that, I admire you. Good stuff. And I am in complete agreement. It's wild to know the last fight, the one with Stallone and Van Damme, wasn't even meant to be in the movie at all initially.

So how is Arnold, in what may as well be his comeback? I've never seen Expendables, as much as an 80s action fan as I am. I'm considering seeing both back-to-back.

E1 isn't a very good action movie at all, but watching it helps you enjoy E2 a great deal more as you've become familiar with the main cast of characters and their relationships. Arnold turns in a fun performance (along with the other big names) for the second movie, where they get quite a bit more time on-screen and in-action, but The Last Stand is his big comeback role.

Saw the movie yesterday ....... and it is many times worse than the first one.

The story (lol) jumps all over the place, the action is horrible (editing and choreography) and cameos by Chuck Norris, Schwarzenegger and Willis are tragic.

JCVD is the only one with a little charisma and presence and he is woefully underused.

The final fights between Stallone and JCVD was garbage, the Adkins and Statham was just not as bad.

Talk about disappointing, Arnold's new movie looks ten times better.

I loved the movie. JCVD, the Chuck Norris meme joke, the fights, the humor...all of it. Even my fiance said it was a "great movie" and she's a tough cookie to please.

I love Jean-Claude Van Damme so much though, that I sort of wanted him to win the fight. LOL

But damn, Arnold was looking old - he's gotta do something with that hair.

I absolutely hated the first movie. It was lazy, boring, and unmemorable.

I wasn't all that psyched for this one, but I ended up with a few hours to kill in town and decided a matinee would get rid of a few of them.

I was surprised by how much I liked this movie. It seemed like it had a much better idea of what it should be. The first was like Stallone got together all of these big stars and thought "The fans are going to be happy," and left it at that. He didn't try for anything outside casting and made another average modern action movie. This time it was like they realized, "They don't just want to see these action stars. They want to see them together doing the stuff they used to. Bigger and crazier." It doesn't always hit that mark directly, but it at least gets around there.

The action was a million times better in this one, with some good hand-to-hand and so much gunfighting that I think everyone can find at least something to like in it. There was a better sense of self-awareness, with more one-liners, references, and jokes instead of just a straight-faced generic plot. They even alluded to Dolph's education.

Chuck Norris was surprisingly great, and utilized to perfection. I'm really surprised with the amount of respect he was given in the script. Jokes aside, his movies never did really stack up with the likes of Sly, Arnold, Bruce, and JCVD.

The climactic battle was a real treat. Seeing
Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Willis just gunning down dozens upon dozens of bad guys in a stoic hero walk, while Norris covers them from above
. I definitely felt the kid in me squealing with joy. It was great way to give the fans what they want.

It wasn't perfect. There's a lot of slow gaps. Some god-awful CG. Couture was useless. Dolph's role was clumsy. And so on.

But it was fun.

Why was Jet Li in the movie for only 3 minutes at the beginning? That seemed super odd.

First, this was not an action movie, it was a comedy. Once you realize this, it becomes a good movie as oppose to whale ass.

But really, that finally fight needed more JCVD. The whole movie needed more JCVD.

Excited to hear more news about Exp 3. JCVD is going to be hard, if not impossible, to top. I hope they can cast someone who can handle the fight scenes instead of a crime boss type as the main villain.

What did you expect going in? Most of the cast is getting old and only a couple of them are known for complex fight scenes if that's what you prefer.

Van Damme is the best damn character in this film by a country mile. How I've missed him on the big screen.

Looking forward to Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning.

I know only a few where known for complex fight scenes etc, it was more the fact that there was now weight to the action .... No sense of threat, peril or impact.

The editing of the action was really weak, I know they are old guys etc but that was not the issue ..... the action was badly shot, edited and thought out.

The action in the first had a lot more weight .. more impact.

Damn now Stallone lost his sister: http://omg.yahoo.com/news/another-death-in-the-family-for-sylvester-stallone.html

Such awful timing at the release of one of his big movies

Such a horrible thing to happen to one of the best people in Hollywood. I can't even imagine losing 2 close family members in such a short time.

That kind of action is what he was going for all along. He wanted to give the fans a few more movies from the dying 80s action genre. Think Commando.

The action is nothing like Commando, I am a 80's child and have all those movies ....... the action in this movie does not measure up.

You sure you've seen Commando? 95% of the action is him mowing through badguys with almost no resistance. Not much "impact" when he kills like 100 guys in 10 minutes lol.

I haven't seen this yet. But my favorite parts of the first one was Jet Li and Statham kicking the shit out of the bad guys inside the tunnel, some nice choreography there. So there's less of that kind of stuff in the sequel? :-(

There is some neat statham cqc. And Li had a good scene, but overall more shooting than melee.

You are forgetting the hotel fight, stabbings, dude with an anvil, tool shed, and end fight.

So 65% to 75%. Just like Invasion USA or Delta Force for Chuck Norris, though it might be higher than Commando.

:)

95% was an exaggeration but most of the time really was him quickly killing a bunch of randoms between fighting villains. Exp 2 felt the same way.

I don't really count the tool shed either since it was just a more creative way of quickly killing baddies lol.

Saw it this past weekend. Loved it from start to finish! Also much better than the first one.

The only things I didn't like:
1. The last fight between Stallone and JCVD. JCVD didn't really put up much of a fight!
2. WTF at Jet Li only being in the beginning!

Best moments were the hand-to-hand/close-courters combat sequences. Especially those with Jason Statham. Beyond awesome.

Favorite line "You've been back enough already!"

And I can't believe my wife enjoyed the movie too!

Saw it today, it was balls out awesome. Everything the first movie shoulda been. Loved all the in-jokes and self-references, and the action was top notch. Much better than EX1.

Shiiiit. I can't wait to see it now! Sadly I've been really busy and haven't been able to get ot a theatre. Hopefully soon!

Sad that Jet Li never returned after his brief stint in the movie's opening. Expected him to swoop in and save everyone's asses at some point but it never happened. Otherwise, the movie was fun as hell (though not quite as fun as the first, IMO).

Btw what did Norris say when they first met?
After Lundgren's: "I heard you're called a lone wolf" Norris says something then Sly looks at all the bodies and comments.

I couldn't hear it well.

I was expecting the same.

Terry Crew needs his own action movie. He is the best.

Idiocracy was enough to put him in my good graces for the rest of his life.
