-The Expendables- (Stallone, Jet Li, Statham AND Lundgren)

When you see the movie you can start saying it's territble. But based off of one person review that you say is credible sure as hell doesn't sell me on your point. GTFO until you have something more substantial to add than one review.

You've done nothing but hate on this film since its .... inception. So you'll have to tone it down a notch on the confirmation bias until you can see it (since its your job right) and rip on it then. Unless of course you're just trying to stir up the manly men, if so kudos keep up the good fight.

Actually, I was all for the film until I started seeing footage. It sounded great in concept but looks like they didn't get the execution right.

Of course, like every movie I see I clear my mind and look forward to it when I see it in theaters. Even shit like Cop Out, Grown Ups, Jonah Hex, etc. this year as soon as that studio logo comes out I'm hoping for the best. There are too many films nowadays that get fucked up by marketing (Dinner For Schmucks as a recent example). This could be the case with The Expendables.

Were some people expecting this to be more of a parody of old action movies? I'm glad they are playing it mostly straight, getting all these guys together to not play it straight would just be dumb.

Comments like before where you say based on this one review this film is gonna be terrible, adds nothing to the discussion. Save your judgmental comments for after you see the film. It's pointless to take one review and judge the movie, especially when you haven't even seen it yourself.

:lol Katey Rich is actually one of the most well-rounded reviewers. Some other people I know have seen it and won't say a word. Usually with embargos something will leak out if its positive, but if its all negative they usually shut up b/c of the studios.

edit: yeah, she agrees with the Tomatometer 75% of the time, pretty high.
thanks for linking to her reviews. now i know that i can ignore her shitty expendables review :)

Is there a fight choreographer? In particular for Jet's fight scenes?

Aintcool.com has a kickass 5 part Q&A with Sly.
Here's part 3
The man 'gets it'.
<3 Sly<3

EDIT: By the way i think that the Q&A its thread worthy.,

Part 4 is up now over at AICN. They're really good reads if anyone is interested in reading Stallone answer reader questions. He has done this before on that site for I believe both Rocky and Rambo. Bruce Willis also did it there for Die Hard 4 and the events leading up to that were very memorable. He essentially verified it was actually him by going onto a video chat with someone calling him out!

I did a search and didn't see a separate thread made so apologies if this all has been mentioned.

I read the review and it seems as if you can substitute just about any of the 80s action film The Expendables is trying to pay homage to and the review would still carry the same amount of weight. It's like all the reviews of Predators talking about how two-dimensional the characters were and how there wasn't enough Predator on-screen time and that shit. There's a reason movies like this were popular, and it's not something that can be quantified in a review. Sure, the movie might be utter shit when it comes to plot, acting or many other criteria by which most films are reviewed, but that doesn't mean it's not damn entertaining and fun as hell to watch.

this movie was not made for you or any movie critic. You guys will simply never get the point of a movie like this. And it can't be worse than half the crap you say is worth watching in your monthly threads.

If all your going to do is shit up a thread then GTFO.

He'll hate it no matter what. He's already formed his opinion of the movie off of a few previews and one review. And I'm sure he'll be in here trashing the movie again despite nobody giving a shit what he thinks.

How would you market a poor, crass remake of a fine film ?

Are you talking about Dinner for Smucks ? The original, Le dinner de cons, is a popular and cultural reference here in France. Everybody can quote lines of the movie or can remember the names of the caracters.

stalon on the after years of rocky characters:

Ivan Drago I always believed went back to Russia where he was scorned and badgered into a position of disgrace and eventually succumbed to alcoholism and unfortunately then suicide.

lol

That's not true at all. There has been a number of films that I've either heavily anticipated or vice versa and turned out completely different than I thought. I'll own up if I enjoyed it.

For someone reiterating in every single post how shitty this movie is going to be, you sure post about it often.
How else is he supposed to stroke his ego and show off how much better he thinks his taste in movies is?

It's like watching a car crash, I can't help it.
You can actually like not posting? Just because critics or reviewers hate on a movie doesn't mean it's not a hit with the fans.

Other than the somewhat disingenuous marketing of the film, I'm looking forward to this. I felt Stallone had a good eye for brutal action in the latest Rambo and I hope he continues with the same style for this film.

Definitely gives off that vibe. But then if you actually go and look at some of the movies he praises, it gets pretty funny. :lol

But yeah, you go and keep trashing the movie mate, you sure showed those anonymous internet guys on that nerdy gaming forum!!

Do you actually have a real life?

This isn't the right thread, but I would love to discuss what films you find laughably bad that I "praise." I'm also only insulting the marketing for a film, not anyone's "personal life". Nice going.

:lol My opinion is my opinion. I'm sure millions of people will adore this movie and I have no problem with that. I'm excited for it to be released so we can all have a good discussion. Right now I just can't believe I'm the only one that can see past the idea of "OMFG OUR FAVORITE ACTION STARS TEAMING UP FOR AN ALL-OUT EXPLOSIVE SPECTACLE!!" and realize it doesn't look like the movie I was really looking forward to.

So the limited knowledge of the plot, action scenes etc. isn't living up to the expectations you have in your head? Kind of seems silly to be so... what's the word? Angry.

The fact that I have no idea how you would envision this movie instead of what it is now notwithstanding, maybe you need to realize that for the majority of people, this does look like the movie they were really looking forward to?

And my personal attack aimed towards you was for one simple reason - just look at the last 10 pages of this thread. Then show me the posts where you're not trashing this flick with your "I'm a critic, noobs" attitude. You do seem to have an oddly big amount of time on your hands to trash a movie that hasn't even come out yet, don't you think?

We've been over this before and as I previously said, a good discussion isn't:

*post negative review* Told you guys this would suck
*post video clip* this looks like shit
Rinse and repeat.

And as I said before, if you want to post news, etc...fine. Just do it without acting like a fucking douchebag.

Neutral stance...

It's not like he has spent the past week trashing it daily. This is a 2 year old thread with months between each cluster of posts by him. So, that's not an oddly big amount of time. He also runs a website... so coming across new information every few weeks/months is on the job and normal.

Your personal attack has no legs to stand on.

You guys can bitch about negativity all you want tho.

I didn't contribute to this thread early on, but looking back at old site posts I've always said this will hopefully be fun and I'm looking forward to it.

I've watched over 10 minutes of total footage now hoping to be surprised each time and every part was laughably bad. Like I previously said, maybe it is out of context and will fit with the whole movie but right now it's not looking hopeful.

Total footage, as in short scenes or an entire one? You're judging on shots that may wind up on the cutting room floor! Also, I don't trust early reviews like what has been posted. A lot of times they are still editing, color correcting etc up until they give the early screening for reviewers on a thurs. I'm not saying the movie isn't bad; it very well could be. But trailers and leaked scenes cannot be a barometer for how popular a movie will be *coughAvatarcough*

a string of entire scenes (in the recent 9 minute reel), all trailers, clips, etc. Also, all early negative reviews are from the 100% finished film. I do agree that studios usually fuck up marketing nowadays so I'm still eager to see it.

Hopefully this (along with Scott Pilgrim) will help save this slate of summer movies from being completely abysmal.

I don't get why it's fine to hype the fuck out of a film without having seen it (Inception), but the same level of passion can't be shared if its negative.

Its a mutually exclusive dichotomy : Hyping and Trolling.

This movie looks like the biggest pice of shit, how anyone could want to see a bunch of washed up, out of their prime movie stars in a crappy action movie is crazy. I lked these guys old movies, and that's what I'll stick to.

Yes, which is why the redundant and godawful American remake irritates me.

Dude, seriously haven't you learned from what Daniel has been posting in this thread. GTFO, this thread is not for people like you. This movie will be pure, testosterone fueled 80's action nonsensical fun. Seriously don't post in this thread anymore unless you have something constructive to add.
