If you have an unlocked or Telus-locked phone, and not currently tied to a term contract, Koodo prepaid is a decent option. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S3 on ebay last year, bought a Koodo prepaid sim, and have been happy ever since. I'm on the cheapest plan, which is $15/mo for unlimited messaging, voicemail, call display, call waiting, and conference calling. Then you buy boosters which don't expire. I don't use much voice so I'm still on the same voice booster I bought last September. 1GB data boosters cost $35 though, which is a bit steep, but they also don't expire. So if you don't talk much, and want data, but aren't streaming videos constantly on your phone, then this could work pretty well for you.
I was initially going to go with Wind, but was turned off by the poor coverage. Koodo runs on the Telus network so coverage is good and you even get LTE if your phone supports it. There's no hidden/access fees or other nonsense. You can administer everything yourself, including registering and porting over an existing phone number online. I've never had to talk to anyone from Koodo, other than buying the sim card at a booth in a mall.
