Which do you prefer, alone or with friends?

Some people think it's strange to go to movies by yourself, but it's what I like best. Even with a lot of the dvds I get (usually not 'new' movies per se), I lock myself in my room-- my first viewing experience has to be without distraction. What about everyone else?

Usually alone, but it depends on the movie. If it's a comedy, I prefer to be with friends so we can laugh and make sarcastic comments. Otherwise, I'd rather be by myself.

I'd prefer to go alone to a lot of movies, but the few time I have it just felt too strange. Some genre of film like comedy are better to see with friends/large crowds anyway. Though it is nice sometimes to duck out of work on a weekday morning and have essentially a private screening since hardly anyone goes to movie early on weekdays.

well for me it does not matter if i am alone or with friends.
if i am with friends they know its no point in trying to speak to me as i wont take my eyes of the screen anyway.

shitting in the alley outside your window
there are a few friends i can see a movie with. seeing any type of serious movie in a group just ends up pissing me off.

I generally try to go see movies with friends, from one other person to a small mob. Afterwards, it's good to have some folks to sit around and hash out the film with. As for serious films, apparently my friends know how to shut up and quietly watch, else I'd have killed them already.

That said, I occasionall catch a flick by myself; I wound up watching A Very Long Engagement solo last week and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A while back a friend of mine was reading old Harlan Ellison essays (perhaps from The Glass Teat; I forget exactly where this was), where Ellison was discussing the movie crawls his friends used to do. In a major city you can basically go see movies 24/7, and they would do just that, spending a couple of days at a time dragging themselves from theatre to theatre. This sounded like a great idea to us, so we've occasionally had movie crawls of our own, catching 4 or 5 flicks in a single day, binging at a local film festival, or whatnot. Solidarity is the key here, so if you're going to wallow in films for an entire weekend, I'd recommend doing it with a gaggle of friends handy. Of course, often the trick is finding that many films you'd want to see at one time...

Depends on the film really. Your standard hollywood film I prefer having friends and a packed house for the ambiance.

I'm not a fan of going to comedies with friends . For some reason when something's funny they look back at me to see if I'm laughin or not. I'm like WTF are you lookin at? What do you want an approval or something? Ok then, YES! You may laugh at this part.

I'd prefer with friends. Went to a film yesterday afternoon alone, and there were seven people total in the theatre, which was great.

I prefer with friends, but I'd like the theatre to be empty so I can openly mock the movie and not have to hear you dumb fucks APPLAUD A FUCKING MOVIE SCREEN or scream with delight at Star Wars trailers.

Nothing worse than shitty previews punctuated with retard moviegoer enthusiasm. "THE BOURNE SUPREMACY II OMG DID YOU SEE THAT EXPLOSION AND THE CAR FLYING AT THE SCREEN AWESOME MUST APPLAUD OH GOD OH IT'S JULIA ROBERTS SHE HAD TWINS I JUST ADORED HER IN 'I LOVE TROUBLE' GONNA APPLAUD AGAIN"

I'm totally with you.

Fun fact: Steven Spielberg insists on watching movies alone the first time.

usually i go with other people, so they can give me opinions different from my own. then after I buy it on DVD, if its worth it, I like watching it by myself to truly appreciate it.

At home on big arse screen.

Fed up of shit seats and fucking dumb-arse chavs in the audience unless it's a specialist indie cinema like Prince Charles in Soho, London.
