Edit: READ this first..... When I say The future, I just mean the next wave of good artist coming out, not the saviors of rap

So I've been searching around mix tapes seeing where hip hop is going. There are a few mix tapes that I have listened to or at least a little of, that have put some faith into where hip-hop is heading.

Wale- Mixtape About nothing

Drake- Comeback Season, Heartbreak Drake, So Far Gone

B.O.B.- Who the Fuck is Bob

Charles Hamilton- No specific mix tape (Haven t listened to a collective mix tape by him just some singles)

Anyone else want to share artist that are making a buzz, or comment on the above artist?

Edit:

Adding some links...

Charles Hamilton- Barbra Walters http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lsxSGxYnEhg

Charles Hamilton- Brooklyn Girls http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wPFskQI56Q

Wale- Chillin http://www.imeem.com/singleofthesecond/music/RzSih02V/wale-chillin-f-lady-gaga/

Drake- City is mine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTF8-Ehweic

also, this charles hamilton dude sounds lazy as FUCK, and I gave Asher's album a chance despite his shitty single and... meh

But Jay Electronica is dope, I wonder if he'll suffer the same fate as Saigon.

If crunk nearly killed hip hop, nerd hip hop will finish the job.

If Asher Roth and Charles Hamilton are the future, it is time for the genre to call it quits.

Ya heard of Jay electronica how is he? any notable songs?

Jay is pretty dope. He has a few unofficial mixtapes out there, and a few extended mixes and songs. Most are pretty bootleg, but definitely worth checking.

Check songs like "Something To Hold Onto (Prod. Nottz)" "My World (Nas Salute)" and "Act 1: Eternal Sunshine".

Oh and Exhibit A (Transformations) produced by Just Blaze http://themegatrondon2.com/2008/11/06/daytona-500/

Crunk did no such thing. There was pile of crap in crunk music, but also som e really artist from the south as well. Same with the west when it was on top and the east as well... All music is like that.

Charles Hamilton is leagues above Asher Roth in quality of music. Also, I never did mention Asher Roth.

uh...how is this thread made without mention of kid cudi or asheroth?

Kid cudi period is the future imo...

uhh forgot about kid cudi, but I was mostly trying to compose a list of people that have not yet hit mainstream yet, and I define that by being heard on the radio all the time, Day and night has been on the radio non-stop. On my local stations I haven't heard any of these artists save for Drake.

Nerd hip hop is shit like Mc know-it-all or whatever that lame-O's name is. I know the white kids that used to hate hip hop want to separate their version of it from the rest by calling it nerdcore, but I think that's what I'd call "nerd hip hop". The stuff in the OP is just hip hop to me. Nothing super amazing or new. Just a particular flavor of modern hip hop. Being slightly nerdy is en vogue now and the younger generation is more into video games than ever before.

ps

jay electronica blows

As far as recent hip hop goes I'm enjoying Aesop Rock and Black Milk. I really didn't like MF Doom's new CD. Sounded way too overproduced.

Sounded like he wasn't even trying. Yawn.

This dude's my housemate. I think he's pretty fucking awesome, but then I probably would:

He's not bad, but I love College is one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
I like the beat, and while it's not much of a lyrical masterpiece, it's a good party song. And rightfully so. That's what it was for.

Jay Dillinger and Finale created a classic with Heat. Hear it?
Thats prolly one of the better Tracks on that CD, Style - Ft. Kev Brown is hot...

Speaking of which, what about Kev Brown? Who else listens to him?
