Maybe but, if people are mad about it, it's because they believe it's undeserved. When games like Baldurs gate 3 or the witcher 3 were winning, there wasn't a huge level of hate to those games. They were well deserved but with obscure, we know the game only excels in one category and that's story.

As a result people will hate something being nominated for GOTY when at best it should win, best story of the year. It's a big insult to games really.
