Yeah I was amused but the lawl never came. :(

Erin seems lots hotter in that vid though.

Sad to see how far from the easy-to-relate-to awkward office relationships the first few seasons were based on this show has gone. This is one of the worst examples I've seen of a show I liked being ruined by the writers and cast not keeping a consistent tone, running jokes into the ground (they've been doing these lame rap gags since the beginning, time to move on guys) and making the characters caricatures of their original selves.

They've been doing lame rap gags?!

This show is fantastic. Even episodes that I used to think weren't all that (some in season 3 I think), when you look back on them they're actually pretty good.

It's fairly rare for shows to feel fresh and current despite having the exact same set-up as the first episode. I think the large amount of internet-savvy references (like the gags in those CollegeHumor videos or, say, It's Always Sunny) is what elevates it above your typical comedy.

I agree that it's hard to stay fresh using the same characters and a mundane setting, but ideally they would have just ended it when the quality started to drop. Unfortunately with American television where there's money to made, many popular shows degrade the same way.

They definitely been doing lame rap gags. Season 2 had the scene where Michael does a rap intro for the Dundies, Season 3 I think had the video Michael and Dwight made with the "Sittin' in my office with a plate of grilled bacon!" rap, I think I'm forgetting one, and more recently Season 5 had the scene with Michael and Toby's replacement beat-boxing.

At the beginning it was great, the humor was the awkward situation created by Michael thinking that everyone thinks his rap is entertaining while everyone actually is cringing that their boss is making a fool of himself in public. In the newer ones, say the beat-boxing scene, the humor has changed to just "Haha, an old white couple think they can beat-box." To say its clever or a higher-level of comedy is ridiculous, they've removed the essential feeling of awkwardness and without that, like in the case of this video, it's like we're in the audience except we're supposed to laugh at it, when it's really just awkward since it's so overdone and cliche.

As for the internet memes, those seem lame to me too. Old media will always be where internet memes go to die, and to me they just same lazy. When Dwight wore that shirt, his lines could have come from any number of the fake reviews for it. They didn't do anything new or clever with it, just threw it in so people who are the slightest bit internet savvy could say "I know that shirt!" and feel a sense of familiarity, like they were sharing an in-joke with the show.

Show is definitely a shell of its former self. I still watch it every week but i don't laugh as much as i did in the earlier episodes.

This is awful. I can't believe Mindy Kaling is a part of it either. Her written episodes are wall-to-wall gold.

They keep stuff like this in the webisodes because it's too far out of whack for the regualr show. That said, I was amused.

The show does overdo the "wacky" at times, but tlately it's reigned that in, and it's better for it.

I don't mind it when they do wacky side stuff at all.

The Office UK >>>>>>>> The Office US

*runs*
The British Office and the first two seasons of the US one are neck and neck, I think, they're very similar in tone. I prefer Dwight to Garreth, and some episodes of the UK one didn't really connect for me, but the portrayals of the types of people who everyone who has worked retail or in an office know like the self-unaware boss who wants to be one the guys, the uptight person who takes work way too seriously, the suck-up, they were all so well done that the current state of the show were everyone, like another poster said, is so "wacky" with totally over-the-top and obviously written personalities that I wish the Office could have been killed and the writers and producers found a new cast when they decided to start producing another crappy sitcom.

I thought the Male Prima Donna webisodes were pretty bad, except for Andy singing at the vending machine. However, I do really appreciate the bonus content they put online for this show. I haven't seen many other shows do that.

This man speaks the truth.

And Dawn is hotter than Pam. That's right, I said it.

you have a legit opinion on the first point, but the second....not.

Ugh, no. I never understood what Tim saw in Dawn.

Jim and Pam, OTOH, have chemistry and Pam is great.

FWIW, I had see all of the UK Office sans the final Special before watching the US version, and I would say that the UK version is clearly superior to Season 1 in the US. Then the US show finds its voice and takes off.

I recently watched the UK Special and it was horrible. I don't know if it was that they'd mined all the material already, or if it just hadn't aged well, but I didn't like it much at all.

One aspect of the UK Office is that it's 100% more realistic and believable, which gives it more upfront punch but makes it hard to watch after a while. It's amazing TV, but I'm glad it ended (and it should have skipped the Special, IMHO). The US Office has just enough of those elements to be really funny, but skimps on some of the pain as to make it something that can keep going.

They're different beasts.

That was the weakest part of the UK version in my opinion. I think it was hard for them to flesh out Dawn's character in 12 episodes, especially with so much of the focus on David Brent.

Also with the way Lee suppressed any sort of personality that Dawn may have had it makes it hard to know what Tim saw in her. But on the other hand you do see glimpses of a down to earth, funny and interesting woman in her character. I just presume that Tim knows Dawn a lot better than any of us do watching the show.

But like I said, their relationship was the weakest part of the series.

And the Christmas Special was not horrible, tied the series up perfectly and had some of the funniest moments of the entire show.

Overall UK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>US

and Gervais>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Carell

Whaaaat?

Both the Office and Extras Christmas specials have been spellbinding series finales for their respective shows.

Even if you don't care much for Gervais's style of comedy you can't deny the fact that he knows just how to end a show on a bang. They're both fantastic and some of the best tv I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of tv).

Whaaaat?

It was pretty miserable, the end saved it but the first half was garbage. The Extras finale I thought was pretty redundant and did not really bring anything new to the table. The end of Season 2 should have been it for the show.

I agree with you regarding The Office finale though. I thought it was the best ending to any show ever up until The Shield ended.

I thought the regular series (UK Office) ended just perfectly as it was, and that the Special was just milking the goose a bit too much.

No need for a "where are they now" thing when it was all left wonderfully resolved/unresolved as it needed to be.

What I would really, really like to see is a UK/US crossover, with Brent coming in as an expert and completely crapping all over Michael. Could be wonderful orawful.

Love the Office, have since the first season and still frequently laugh at it most the episode. I think this season has been just as good as previous.

EDIT: Nvm NSFW. :lol

Pretty much sums up my feelings, although last week's episode was an improvement. It was more true to the original style of the show.

Except that wasn't the joke at all. The entire point of that quick scene was showing us that Michael had finally found someone just as corny and lame as him. It wasn't "lol old white people" at all.

The Halloween episode? Haven't seen it yet but the episode prior was awesome too. This has been a really good season so far. And last year (5) was one of the three best (2 and 3 being the others).

Erin is cute.

I do prefer the UK office, but that's because it was perfect in 12 episodes. It probably wouldn't have lasted as well as the American Office has.

The scene was also communicating that, but it was also supposed to be funny. It wasn't a sentimental scene, it was a goofy scene where the joke is "Look how wacky the two of them are!"

I didn't mean that Michael is trying to be black, he doesn't understand why beat-boxing and trying to emulate moves he's seen in rap videos is lame. In the first seasons, the humor was relating to his employees as they cringed at his performance, now the humor is just laughing at the silly dance he's doing.

Also, arguing that the scene was intended just to show that Michael had found a kindred spirit makes the writers seem all the lazier, it was obvious by the end of the first episode she was in that they felt that way about each other, they really don't need to beat us over the head with it.
