Cancelled my pre-order after watching this. Looks like Mario Galaxy for babbies. Not spending £30 on that.

apparently the game starts to ramp up difficulty about half way through and then
after finishing it there's another 8 worlds to unlock which are even more challenging.

jeff wasnt far enough along to give the game a fair quick look but after finding out how much content there really is it sounds like a good buy.

lol They are such a broken record with "people don't want to play "those kind of games" on portables". It is annoying every time.

BUT OH MY FUCKING GOD! That segment on the roof...
I'm not going to lie, the first time I played MGS2 I was scratching my head there too. Not even joking.

This is infuriating. :lol

I don't think it is. It's a show of a shitty port. The codec message that tells you that there's a hole in the fence and that you have to crawl wasn't showing up properly.

Yep, I was already pissed at the snake/raiden thing. Trying to figure out where to go for the next 10 min didn't help.

When was the last time Mario was difficult? The last stage of Lost Levels?
I didn't say anything about difficulty.

When I say Mario Galaxy for babbies I mean it literally looks like Galaxy dialled down to 1 in terms of scope.

Loading the codec screen also seemed to take its time in MGS2. I wonder if this is a problem with 360 version only?

Yeah, that seems really annoying. On the PS2 it was immediate(which helped when you just wanted to skip the damned things :P).

Pretty surprised they didn't seem to know that there was a scenario in which the initial scene where Snake took off his sky diving mask in MGS3 revealed a Raiden face..

Well, that's only if you pick "I like MGS2" and I mean, who does that? nobody likes MGS2.

Jeff thinking he was high when trying to remember Portable Ops was pretty funny. Though I don't blame him for forgetting its existence.

Haven't replayed MGS2 since about the time it was released, I still want to punch someone in the face for how long it took them to go through that damn fence, even if I remember having problems remembering that myself. :p

It makes me sad that the Persona 4 joke Jeff made was lost on Patrick.

There was a Bombcast once where, if I'm not mistaken, Vinny sounded sad when Brad said he'd never watched the P4 ER. I guess now it would be quicker to just watch the anime on Hulu which is getting better with every episode.

Man, they didn't change the 'no crawling' thing in Peace Walker, huh? I kind of wish they'd taken the opportunity to fix some of the quirks of the controls for this rerelease. I know there'll probably be purists who'd object to any changes, but some of the stuff with the pressure sensitive buttons in MGS2 and 3 was silly even back then. OK, to fire your pistol you have to hold the Square button to aim and then let it go to shoot, but to fire your automatic rifle you have to hold the Square button halfway in to aim and then push it all the way in to shoot, and then let it go back to halfway again to stop shooting.

Oh, you wanted to sneak up behind that guy in MGS3? And you thought you could just walk slowly? Bro, let me tell you 'bout stalkin'.

To be honest I would be pretty happy if they'd taken out an awful lot of the stamina and eating and Curing and hunting and constantly-changing-your-camo stuff out of MGS3. I must have played that game dozens of times and the ol' Disinfectant, Styptic, Suture Kit, Bandage routine got old preeeetty fast. I'm still going to buy the HD Collection and play the eff out of these games, but I'm just sayin' is all. Maybe they could have added an 'I like MGS4' option to the very beginning that would turn all that business off.

The game is built around not needing to crawl. Not sure why you would like to do that.

Man, the MGS 2 portion was frustrating to watch.

Because it's weird that you can't. It's not vital to completing the game, no, but as soon as they made such a big deal of it in the opening cutscene all I could think about was why not? Same thing Jeff was talking about in the QL. It's been in every other MGS game but then they took it out and made a big deal of repeating to you, in the first minute of the game, that you can't do it anymore. It's super weird.

OMG!! REALLY!!??

I did the same thing. Took be a good 5min. I don't blame them 1 bit. Haha.

I actually don't mind Brad's enthuisasm towards high profile releases (see LA Noire, Uncharted, etc...). It usually counterbalances Jeff and Ryan's more cynical approach rather well.

To be fair, I've never played MGS2 either and maybe it was just the Youtube quality but I didn't see that gap to crawl through either.
I was convinced they either had to push that lone box or grab the ledge that Patrick kept dropping off and move to the left or right.

The first time they run past the gap the Codec rings and Patrick answers it, but the conversation either takes too long to load or just glitches and doesn't load and Patrick ends the call. I'm pretty sure Campbell would have said "Yo Raiden, go crawl dat shit" if the voice had actually played; those load times on the Codec calls seem like they're crying out for a patch.

I remember being absolutely baffled at that rooftop bit when I first played MGS2. They don't make it very clear. I'm pretty sure I faq'd that one up as well.

Same here. I was pretty much out of ideas myself while watching them play.

Those codec load times look really annoying and actually remind me a little of the annoying load times that the PS3 version of Bayonetta had before it got patched.

It's hard to really blame them for spending so long on the roof when the codec which is meant to tell them what to do seemed to glitch. First time when they answered the codec the conversation didn't load, then the second time you could hear the codec sound but the incoming call prompt didn't appear.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I usually got stuck on that screen too. I didn't know what to do on that screen during my first time playing 10 years ago, and had to look at a walkthrough. Then a year or two later, when I replayed it, I think I got stuck there again, though I didn't need to look at a FAQ. Then a few years later, when I finally played Substance, I was stuck there again. It's an easy screen to get stuck on due to the somewhat-obscured nature of the fence hole, and an easy screen to forget about.

As for the Codec message "bugging out," I think that's how it was in the PS2 version. The codec alert won't actually show up unless you're crouching or prone near the hole. That's probably why many people get stuck here, they run around the area looking for a codec alert, and it only pops up when you're crouched.

What? It's leagues better then Oblivion was. I was pretty surprised how smooth it worked when I finished the tutorial stuff last night.

Not sure if it's that. The codec conversation will only happen if snake is standing in the small area it initiates, Patrick seemed to be moving just out of its range when he accessed, thus the reason it went to the default "select frequency" codec menu and not the tip for crawling. More of a flaw with the original design and not the port.
