I was awfully dissapointed, with the Matrix finale. Didn't the devs say that something big was gonna happen WTF?

Not really. Besides, they didn't want to sink any money into it. There's a reason they're closing it down.:lol

:lol :lol This thread is hilarious. They're so defensive and completely miss the point.

from thread in link said:
A) Can't really be surprised people who showed up looking for content were unimpressed - they also suffer from video-on-trial syndrome - where as opposed to giving a genuine review they are looking to say funny remarks to make people laugh and hopefully get picked up by the escapist- too bad though cause they aren't that funny.

B) Anyone noticed the homo-erotic subtext behind the two of them getting all picky and feisty over the quality of their man? I mean i'm all for apt charachterness but i'm not exactly worried about the cut of his butt or the shape of his hips - and frankly if that's their sexual orientation power to them - but they strike me as the type to throw rocks at people who are different because it's the cool thing to do.

C) This is a good game because of what some people have found in it - it's an experience based adventure where you can find like minded actors and writers- that being said the game is awful. Period.

D) "go with the hulk" - your so crazy puddin. Yes i'm making fun of them - it's a terrible crap game with crap support but it's my slow step brother and nobody picks on him but me.

E) Anyone else think they got to the end of the revolutions and went - i don't get it?

F) To be fair i didn't get it at first either but these two guys are dumb. (i know subtle right?)

G) Mr. Manhattan? - Really? Really? - God that alone makes me rage.

H) Bondage gear stuff - Sexual preference - fine i get that - but bondage chicks are hot.

I) At this point i'm just going while i watch the vid - i'll stop at z though.

J) Hats - to be fair that's a valid point.

K) I like that they make fun of loud dumb guys. Give that one a second.

L) Neo - Sigh. Just no... just roll the clip i'm going to go punch a baby in the face.

M) Amanda Matricks - well at least they like their own jokes - though that's ironic if no one finds me funny.

N) TonkaTruck - i lol'd.

O) Redpill or Bluepill - i half assumed the first 10 minutes would be getting started, the next 10 would be doing it over because they chose wrong.

P) The Scarlet part - i'm actually able to read the words right click scarlet - and these two are like chimps behind a desk beating their heads on it.

Q) It's in the balls, we know it and love it - cheap shot - brought to you by the people who made punt - the greatest mmo attack ever.

R) Was anyone actually this stupid when first learning the play mxo?

S) Vitality - picture of a heart - that's more health right? Yeah. Yeah.

T) Man i've tried left click - what else could it be.

U) Yeah he called me on the watching this and raging.

V) Literacy is no laughing matter boys and girls, despite my humor i'm genuinely worried about the state of the worlds youth.

W) I love that the slow guy figures out it's right click and his friend just completely doesn't regard it.

X) MAN I TRIED LEFT CLICK NOTHING IS WORKING. Seriously - it's an inch away from your finger, just try - almost every mmorpg ever uses right click that way. Brutal.

Y) Clio - hey we haven't visited her yet - short term memory - it's a fundamental skill. Is it just me or do these two not even seem like gamers - they seem lost to some of the most basic principles and concepts in video games.

Z) An hour later and they've not accomplished anything and are lost in uriah - ok the darkness is an excuse but wow these two would starve to death in a grocery store.

It would have also been nice if they'd done some research calling the game poor in draw distance when halloween darkness is turned on is kind of dumb. They probably had no means of knowing but still - it's not low quality is an art thing.... ok so it's a low quality art thing but still.

I imagine with audience like this theres a reason our game didn't do so well - i'm sort of at a loss for words and just feel bad - i mean that's not what the matrix is about - and this video attempting to capture it is like using ms paint - drawing a smiley face and saying it's a brief view of what painting is about.

Good find ebola - i'm going to go stab myself in the eyes.

Defensive is an understatement.

Some of them are acting cool. The rest are acting like defensive crack addicts trying to justify their habits.. Actually scratch cocaine thats too high quality, World of Warcraft would be the cocaine, MxO is more like Robitussin addicts.

2,500+ users at the end of the night though... wow.
just dance

The MxO thing was fun. Shame the end was an anticlimax though.

I was in the WoW beta end of the world and it was a hell of a lot more interesting. World bosses being spawned in major cities and stuff. MxO seemingly did nothing but a text pop up.

I was actually curious if that city they were in was all there was to the game. It seemed pretty small and uninteresting. Were there any world bosses? Raid instances? Anything?

The MxO thing was insane. Granted, I only watched the first and last one in full, but it was gratifying to see the userbase so enthused all the way to the end.

Personally, I'd just stop playing if I found out the game was ending or going to be replaced by another (Hello there, FFXI!), but I was pleasantly surprised when the MxO forums even had a contact thread, presumably for guildies and online friends to stick together.

I wish they would make a habit of taking some time to familiarize themselves with the games some more before they start recording. Quick Looks are potentially a great tool to learn what a game is all about before making a purchase, but when they just show the first 15 or 20 minutes of a game it's hard to really get a feel for what the game is about. The beginning of games is often boring hand-holding tutorials or an awkward struggle to get a feel for the mechanics.

I love Giant Bomb, but most of these quick looks don't represent an accurate chunk of the true game experience, which would be 300x more helpful.

Agreed. Quick Looks have much greater potential than what is currently realized. I love Giant Bomb to death, and I love that they add humor to their content, but I feel that actually informing the viewers about the game often takes a backseat to that humor. It can sometimes be painful to watch them struggle with controls. Videos can be entertaining even if you know how to play the game (Persona 4).

Okay, I'll admit that the uninformed approach can be taken when doing a Quick Look of a terrible game nobody cares about for comic relief. However, I'm kinda disappointed when after watching a 20 minute video of a game I'm interested in (Little King's Story), I come out learning barely anything.

A Quick Look is basically a video of someone's first impression of a game. It's letting the average gamer know what kind of experience to expect when playing for the first time. If they start practicing beforehand it starts to turn into a walkthrough, which is something that they are generally less well equipped for.

Jesus christ, why are they so defensive of such a shitty game...

Sink enough money in to something and eventually you feel the need to defend your purchase, somehow. This even happens on GAF with certain things that will not be named (because it's funnier to have people panic and assume the worst). Though, for something subscription-based, I would assume those "I need to defend my purchase" sensations would ramp up to crazy levels a lot faster because you are shelling out cash month after month.

When and where did they define what a "Quick Look" is? Some Quick Look videos have been recorded after hours of play, so there goes that explanation. Secondly, how exactly is watching someone else learn the controls on the fly useful to the viewer?

I am confused what you mean by practicing. Do you mean actually playing the game? Quick Looks where the player had played a fair amount beforehand were more useful to me. The Wii Sports Resort, Prototype, and Boom Blox Quick Looks are a few that come to mind. I'd rather not watch someone play through a tutorial, but rather have the player provide a more condensed explanation while showing off more than just the basic gameplay. If I wanted a tutorial, I'd play it myself. But we may have to agree to disagree here.

I also understand that with such a small staff, it's probably difficult to get in depth with as many games as they'd like beyond the "first look" level. So this could be part of the issue here.

Not to be misunderstood by my pessimism, I love GB. I watch all the Quick Looks, Endurance Runs, TANG, etc. and even tuned in for the live stream yesterday.

As far as it has ever been apparent from the "Around the Office" or "Mail Bag" videos they've posted, the process goes a little something like this:

  • Game is received in the office.
  • Whoever the game is for, plays it as much as they want
  • Eventually, within a few days, they film the Quicklook for it

Of course, the length of time between #1 and #3 varies, as does the amount of time a specific person puts in to the game before #3 happens. The Prototype Quicklook, for example, did not happen until Brad was nearly finished with the game. But a large percentage of Quicklooks contain this phrase (or something similar):

"I played a little bit of this last night, and..."

Suggesting many Quicklooks are filmed in that window where the player is still learning how to play the game.

Yeah, I don't expect them to be experts at every game when they give the Quick Look, but I just wish the time between #1 and #3 was greater. I sometimes feel like I'm putting the pieces together faster in my head than they are in terms of figuring out the game mechanics. Like I said, I know that they have a small editorial staff and that time is limited, but even playing an hour or so beforehand would make a difference.

I like the way they do the quicklooks. I dont watch them to know more about the games though, but more for fun, like when they never played it, or barely. :lol

It's a more honest portrayal of what your first time playing the game is going to be like so you know what to expect. If a game has a steep learning curve or difficult controls then it should show in the video.
I am confused what you mean by practicing. Do you mean actually playing the game? Quick Looks where the player had played a fair amount beforehand were more useful to me. The Wii Sports Resort, Prototype, and Boom Blox Quick Looks are a few that come to mind.
If that is the case then Brad must die a lot. I think I would pay money for a Brad N+ endurance run, as painful as that would be for everyone involved.

Unfortunately, that's what the first level of the average game amounts to these days.

I agree wholeheartedly

quick looks are part of the reason giantbomb is probably the best current gaming website

it's like watching a video review to get footage, which I regularly do, but without any big spoilers or lame cuts. plus you get the mst2k vibe from them.

Agreed, pretty much exactly why I like the Quick Looks. No need to worry about spoilers, the game is usually as fresh to them as it would be to us. And their commentary is entertaining.

Yup, and they talk about it, and play it just as me and my friends would: be stupid about it :D
thats why I love the quick looks so much

"Fat Princess...we're playing the BETA..this is it"

I want them to review after the "fixes" and improvements in the final version when it still isn't fixed yet. The full game is more advanced then the BETA even with the bugs as well so it would be nice to have a review so they can build up community awareness and they could talk about how far this game has come.

I'm sure their plan is to review the game because they seem to review all higher profile XBLA and PSN games but Brad said in the podcast that it's currently a mess. They'll probably handle it like Battlefield 1943 and give the developers an opportunity to fix the issues and then review the game when it's playable.

Oh man. I was sooooo anticipating a "massive damage" or a "E3 09 MS press conference bug" reference during that boss fight part. :lol

That Shadow Complex QL looks awesome. I just bought a 2800 points card for 'Splosion Man, still got 2000. It is going to definitely be Shadow Complex and one other game or RB songs.

That Ninja Turtles QL was hilarious.

"I'm done with this game..."

"GUYS!?! GUYS!?.....fine, bye" :lol

Brad sounded disappointed or pissed off.
