Quicklook throwback Shenmue

:O

:D :D

greatest game ever ( with Shenmue 2 )

wow Brad never played Shenmue and thought he will know what Shenmue is in just 20min ..poor thing , you can't feel what Shenmue truly is until at least you go to the basement for the phoenix mirror , it they type of the games that need time .

also 3 Discs not 2 ( + passport disc )

The Shenmue quicklook inspired me to get my Shenmue on!
So, Shenmue 2 (Xbox) worth it? Hows the backwards compatibility with the 360 for it? Any game breaking glitches?

I played shenmue 2 on 360, and while I didn't finish it I came close and didn't run into any problems.

nothing but the D-pad is the problem , at least with Controller S d-pad ( original Xbox ) you can do most of QTE without big issues .

be sure to have a complete copy ( with the Shenmue 1 movie disc ) if you never played shenmue 1 on dreamcast because you will be completely lost if you don't know the story .

OMG Giant Bomb is killing it these days. Tim Schafer interview was amazing.

It's going to take me all evening to get through all this content. GB <33333

I agree, the Tim Schafer "interview" was excellent. I really enjoyed the Penny Arcade interview too.

Yeah, totally not what I was expecting out of the PA interview. Also Mega64 is so ridiculous :lol

Oh man, I love Dreamcast. My favorite system.
Oh man, I love Giantbomb. My favorite internet site.

TODAY RULES!

edit: Giantbomb has released so many videos the past few days, sucks that its coinciding with me doing homeworking/working every breathing second I'm awake during the day.

Oh my god, Shenmue looks terrible. How is it loved so much by GAF? The voice acting makes my ears bleed it's one of the worst I've ever heard.

Back before Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo, there was Sony/Sega/Nintendo. It warped perceptions. Witness those who hold Skies of Arcadia up as one of the best RPGs in history.

It was (and still is) super immersive. It's not something to play when you want instant action but something that you play on a boring saturday for like 12 hours straight.

These sort of collaborations they're doing with various folks in the industry are rather brilliant. P-A discussion, Schafer trodcast. Mega 64 interskew.

I regret having missed out on Power Stone 2. That game looks awesome.

Sonic Adventure looks terrible.

Crazy Taxi looks way past its prime.

Jet Set also seems a little old around the ages. That one cop made an awesome leaping headbutt into that signpost there though.

Virtua Tennis actually looks kind of ok still.

Jeff got fired for being honest.

That quicklook kind of made me want to punch Brad in the face. There's nothing wrong with a slower paced game! And him joking about an endurance run of it only made me realize it's weird he doesn't have a problem with the story/relationship stuff in Persona 4 as that combined is probably just as long as all of Shenmue.

When did Brad play P4?

Shenmue is a really boring game if you don't find the material interesting. If you don't find a reason to care about the world/characters, there's not much gameplay to fall back on, unlike most games.

Brad's not involved in the P4 Endurance Run and the impression I get of him is that he's not that big on narrative driven games for the most part, particularly the quirks of Japanese narratives. Different strokes and what have you.

I love the guy talking to Gerstmann at the Brutal Legend booth, "You were the guy who got fired for being honest. I respect you, man."

Cheers guys. I wish GB's site was a little easier to navigate through the latest videos. When it falls off the front page half of them seem to vanish for me.

When looking through interviews and stuff check the events tab on the video page, as they seem to fall in there. But yeah, I wish there was some kind of better sorting option as well.

well , don't blame Brad , Shenmue need time to get to the real experience , hell for first time and even after 1 or 2 hours many guys didn't swallow the whole thing , some guys start to enjoy it in Disc 2 .

and to be fair about Brad , the bad QL for Shenmue is kinda somehow Ryan Davis's fault , in 20 mins , he should go for old lady that search for Yamamoto house or at least going to Dobuita and give the viewers a look on how awesome and alive that lil town is .

- Are there subtitles, can you skip the dialogue?
- This is Shenmue, you can't skip what is Shenmue.

- Can you ride the motorcycle?
- No.
-Aarrrrrrrrrrrgh

I completely adored Shenmue but can understand if someone doesn't get into it. A decade later without the gee whiz reaction to the graphics doesn't help either.

Yeah, you're right. They could have shown some more interesting things, but IMO I thought the game holds up very well, just because there's barely been anything like it since.

The "can you skip the dialogue" reminded me of the Monkey Island part 2 quick look. No, you can't, because that's what this type of game is all about. Now shut up and listen.

I wonder if people will feel the same way about Heavy Rain in 10 years, when that will look dated.

I think the graphics are fine though, it's the english dubbing that's terrible. (and even that has some "so bad it's good"-charm to it)
Thank God Shenmue 2 had the japanese dialogue.
