Maybe I just don't like the loot thing, but Borderlands looks like WoW levels of boring repetition to me. Find enemies > kill enemies > get loot > repeat. And I dn't mind slow gameplay, but man. The more I see of Borderlands, the less I want to try it. Not bashing it, it just looks like the exact opposite of why I play shooters.

Which is a shame. I love the graphics, designs, presentation, and universe of it. The gameplay just looks really unappealing to me. I hope more games look like this so I can enjoy this style of graphics. :C

So you don't play shooters to shoot at things?

Borderlands is probably my GOTY, but yeah, it's really a combination of the loot and the shooting, and you've really got to be into both. It doesn't do either one individually spectacularly well, but if you're into both it comes together nicely.

As someone who likes loot games and shooters, I don't understand how much praise Borderlands has gotten. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but it's shallow by loot game standards and shallow by shooter standards. Granted that this mix of shallow elements is still above past efforts at mixing shooter and loot game, it's still just a step in the right direction to me. I'm hoping that Borderlands 2 or another take from another dev turns out better. I mean, I'd like to have good shooter elements mixed with good loot game elements, and a bit more care in having them work together. But like I said, Borderlands is the first time it worked, and it's still fun. It just seems like a case of people excited about something new.

I don't get how Borderlands is shallow by shooter standards. Corridor shooters with their heavily scripted elements that glut the market seem very shallow to me, which it isn't. Borderlands gives you more freedom to act and more chance of tactics, rather than mowing down all in your path as you move past the invisible line that stops the respawn closets.

Enemies in Borderland have AI comparable to N64 shooters. The patterns go like this: Enemy with gun = they stand and shoot you; enemies without guns = rush you. You seem to be knocking Modern Warfare 2 single player and I don't disagree with how boring it is. Borderland has the advantage of having poor AI rather than being a lightgun game with the freedom of character movement. But compare Borderlands to a good shooter and it is incredibly shallow.

The problem is, those tactics are pretty much pointless.

Nothing wrong with being excited about something new is there? Its an original game, and a good one.

Haha.

:lol I did that exact thing for like 10 minutes when I got to that point.

Borderlands is pretty much just like leveling in WoW but with FPS gameplay. Take it or leave it, that's what the game is from start to finish.

DS Quicklooks confirmed : D

The live "I love Mondays" was awesome. I especially liked listening to their live decision making on 'who would review what' for some random reason.

"We'll also be looking at Finaaaal Fantasy the Crystal....Bbbbbbearrrrr..."

*Vinnie eases the game case into the shot*

"Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Crystal Bearers!"

"Final Fantasy Crystal Bears!"

:lol :lol :lol

so i heard jeff doesnt like final fantasy much. wouldn't know it from that quicklook :lol

so glad i didnt buy that game, even with the hot ferret action.

I remember when quicklooks were something new they were doing, and I instantly knew they were full of awesome. Glad they kept with it, I guess the traffic must have spoke for itself.

The Darksiders link directs me to Brad's top 10 and I can't seem to find it on the site :\

And I can't see the buffer line on videos. Did they do something or is it messing up on my end?

Ryan? You mean Jeff. And that QL fucks up around the 20 minute mark (DarksiderS)
Yeah, I need some sleep.

BTW, Jeff is streaming from Ryan's car (I think): CLICK
It's not a quick look but it's entertaining nontheless.

I can't see it either and I can't download the videos anymore =(

Yeah, it looks like they did something to turn that off. I guess they want people to stay on the page every time they watch a video, but jeez. I'm sort of glad I archived the endurance run a while back.

They took the site down to make some changes and right now i am not liking them changes, i can't download videos which blows, hopefully it's temporary.

Well the good news is you can now skip forward to whenever.
what

megaton if true. at times watching gb videos on a wireless connection meant finicky connections or accidentally closing the tab, and if you've watched about 3/4 of the video then it's absolute murder. some of the longer endurance run videos nearly killed me.

Its not. They finally switched from pre-loading (ala youtube) to streaming (like the rest of the internet). Hence the ability to skip forward and why people can't download videos anymore. It sucks for people who have absurdly slow connections or want to download videos but it was inevitable.

there is still a way to download the videos, you just have to work a little bit harder. Just downloaded the darksiders one 5 minutes ago.

Searching for the file in the source code?

kinda, you can open the xml linked on the source code but even then it's doesn't give the direct path. you have to remove the 's' in sparams on the url to find the link to the file.
