I played the first Sonic Riders. It was alright, not something I'd buy at full price or anything though.

I really like the idea of Kinect for 'casual' games like the exercise/dancing stuff. Has great potential for those, for regular games? Not a chance. Who wants to do what Ryan was doing at like 1:00 AM in the morning?

Looked like he had to over exaggerate his movements for anything to register. Then again, might just be the game.
 
Haha, the Sonic video was awesome! I thought Vinny was going to pass out and fall out of the camera view at the end of that run.

The game looks awful of course.

But now I know what Kinect is good for: it will kill every single morbidly obese american fatass retard that dares to play it. Depopulation here we come!

Not THAT responsive. One big problem looks like throwing items. Ryan waves his hand and the character doesnt throw the item.

Also, yeesh at pressing start.........

this looks horrible. the game probably would be WAAAAAAY better with the regular controller.

Agreed. It looked like an improved version of the first Riders game with a way better HUD (never played the second) but the controls just kill it.
The menu, jeez.
 
that kind of reminded me of the Wii (not counting motion plus). the first party nintendo stuff made minimal use of the motion (zelda, sports etc) and just stuck with the things that worked and was fun.

but everyone got stupid hyped about 1:1 sword fighting games and stuff, only to find that actually anything that required any kind of specific motions just didnt work because it couldnt differentiate them well enough.

it looks pretty obvious that kinect doesnt work well enough to replace the controller for a 'proper' game.
 
Sounds like a Civ V QL is forthcoming! I'm guessing it'll be posted either late tonight or some time tomorrow.

The first Sonic Riders is not as terrible as some would lead you to believe; it was somewhat decent with a few mediocre game design decisions. A good game to pick up out of the bargain bin as long as your expectations aren't too high.

Free Riders looks like it would probably be a lot more fun with a regular controller. I dunno if it was physical fatigue or what, but Ryan really seemed to be struggling with the controls near the end.

I would LOVE to see Ryan or anyone try the second video with Kinect. They probably wouldnt even be able to finish the level.

Man, I love Gameroom quicklooks. They justify the service being absolute crap. Hope they do a Halo 2600 QL too, if only because I don't care enough to try the flash game.

Also this is hardly related, but I'm disappointed Brad broke out the anal slurping for SC2. There's plenty to be down on it for! Certainly enough to not break out the non-sequitur praise about how this one will last for another 12 years because of all the advances it makes.
 
Never played a Civ in my life.

Is Civ revolution good? Looks fun and seems like a good jumping off point for the more advanced Civ 5.

Its fun but feels shallow if you know there's fully featured versions on the PC. It also has a lot of technical issues (I played on PS3) and the gibberish language the characters used really got to me after a while.

It'd be worthwhile if it was cheap.

If you have iDevice Civ Rev is free today. It's really basic but fun game. Great for starters.

You know, if you are afraid that it will get to boring, try Total War first... It's a game that mixes the Civ sort of play, with actual RTS combat, so you can spice it up. Basically you move your armies Civ-like, but then you can fight the actual battles(if you want to.. or just have the computer do it for you).

It's a good way to get into Civ.
 
I felt bad for that sonic pr dude. having so little to talk up, he resorted to use rubber-band AI as a bullet point. :(

Actually as an AoE/AoM/SC player I always found Total War's real time combat quite boring to the point where I'd basically be playing a crappy version of Civilization. :lol

Anyways +1 to CivRev its a really nice quick version of fundamental Civ.
 
Anyone ever play Harmonix's last camera controlled game, EyeToy: AntiGrav for the PS2? It played a LOT like this Sonic game and had head and hand tracking. Doesn't seem like Sonic's controls are much improved over that six year old game.
 
Wow that sonic game looks so shit! Can't believe they are gona charge almost full price retail for it, yuk! Hopfully the Market will speak quickly on it.

Can't wait for review time.

I disagree. I've played most of the Total War series, and the turn-based stuff is more simplistic than even Civ Rev, while even more awkwardly laid out. The actual battles are where the fun is, but that's in a style very different from Civ.

Civ Rev is actually great for a relatively quick game. I've played a lot of both it and four, and they're both great fun.

They'll be more entertaining without the EX crap. It would've been much more entertaining hearing Ryan complain how much the game sucked and was unresponsive. You could tell it wasn't really natural for him trying to control the character select screen.
 
Wow, that Sonic Kinect game looks like a fucking abomination.

Utterly terrible, even for Sonic spinoff standards.

well its a ubisoft game so at least it will get good post release patch support, its not like they'll just drop it while its still full of bugs and run

Football game.

Jeff and Ryan did some baseball game quicklooks earlier. Jeff was able to play those just fine for the QL.
