I don't remember them saying they didn't like Scott Pilgrim during the QL but I was sort of doing other stuff at the same time as watching it. I just thought he was talking about how close it was to previous games. But like I said I wasn't paying a lot of attention while watching the video.

The general consensus between Brad and Jeff was that Scott Pilgrim was "trying too hard" and had "indie darling" written all over it.

On top of that, Jeff has long held the opinion that the classic beat'em'up of yesteryear was a product of its era and is not worth revisiting in modern gaming times (see: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled QL).

No shit. That's exactly how it is. I usually don't easily agree with either of them, but that verdict is spot-on.

Watching it I feel people are overreacting a bit to Jeff's feelings toward the game. He did come off a bit as a "old man" but I don't see what he said that is offending fans of SP so much.
I have to agree. The only time their negativity really annoyed me was at the end of the Matthew boss fight when they tried to pin the typical Japanese ball of light explosion thing as a Mega Man reference. Even then it was more of a "Cmon guys, thats a broader trope" and not a "I CANT BELIEVE THEY ARE SAYING THIS! HUFF"

I guess it did kind of work as a leadin to the actual Mega Man reference, so whatevs.

Brad said he died sorta like Mega Man. Give it a fucking rest.

Who's the new dude in Lara Croft QL? Don't like him.

Fine, I'll give being largely apathetic about it aside from one small instance where I thought they were trying too hard, and then being mostly apathetic about that, a fucking rest.

FUCKING GIANT BOMB HATING ON SCOTT PILGRIM? UGGHH WHERES MY POWER OF UNDERSTANDING SWORD WITH +2 DEFENSE AGAINST HATERS SO I CAN FIGURE THIS OUT WARGLE WARGLE WARGLE

Since I dont really care either way, I can go to the other end of the spectrum too.

theres no prejudice in hating hipsters. they are the enemy of the state. its every civilians duty to do that

Jeff and brad were just doing their part

I think we can safely ignore Lunchbox's incredibly subtle trolling from now on.

Oh it's way easy whne he is on your ignore list. I remember him douching it up in some other thread and forgot to put him there before.

Jeff did annoy me when he decided to give his impression of Scott Pilgrim despite constantly stating that he's never touch any material within the franchise, especially given they work with comic Vine. Why not bring a fan of the comic who works in the office into the quicklook as oppose to Brad who never adds anything to a quicklook he's not playing (and dying in) other than using meta as a prefix to every other work he says.

Because it is a giant bomb quick look.

They have no problem bringing in people from the sister sites. Just look at the TNT events and some of the QLs. Rorie and Navaro have been in QLs, it would have been cool to bring someone from Comic vine in for some expertise on the subject.

Matt Rorie. He's a Gamespot veteran. He quit when everyone else did after Gerstmann got fired. He went to work for Obsidian Games for a while, but now he's working for Screened.com with another Gamespot veteran, Alex Navarro.

he's pretty funny on the screened podcast. he's pretty goofy under the right circumstances and a good contrast to alex. he also comes up with alot of good gags like vinny does on the bombcast.

I am a little shocked at how many Scott Pilgrim apologists there are :lol

The weird thing is that the conversation is not really about the video game at all, but instead it is about the franchise itself.

And it isn't that shocking that lots of people on GAF like it. We're pretty much right in the series' wheelhouse.

there arent that many. just a few loud ones. everyone who says anything against it gets mobbed like how jeff and brad are right now. dont worry, they'll die down once the movie bombs

I think it is fine to dislike Scott Pilgrim, but to go and say that everyone who likes it is a hipster is fucking ridiculous.
Yeah, definitely. Scott Pilgrim rubs me the wrong way, especially the movie and the video game, because of the cynical and obvious marketing behind it. I don't think "hipsters" give a fuck about Scott Pilgrim anyway, probably more geared towards their little brothers.

Yeah, even as someone who likes the books, I think the marketing is annoying as fuck. But hey, that's marketing people for you, thankfully anytime I have seen straight footage it looks pretty close to the books so I am excited. But like I said, I can't fault anyone who doesn't like it, I can see how it could be super divisive.

Is that no online co-op til September for Lara Croft bit true? If so... thing is fucking dead in the water.

No online co-op until the PS3 and PC versions launch. Microsoft got to release the game one month earlier than everybody for their "Summer of Arcade", but this is the price they had to pay.

I feel the same way. I get why people don't like it. Some parts of the books kind of rub me the wrong way, to be honest.

But what I don't get is why people that don't like it feel the need to insult the people that do. This "only hipster douches like it" and "it's Twilight for nerds" shit bothers me. I hate tryhard "I do everything ironically" hipsters in girl jeans as much as the next guy. And I don't project myself on to the main character like girls that read Twilight do.

I just enjoy it for what it is. A dumb little surreal comedy with game references in it. If there's something wrong with that I'm not seeing it. For me it's just harmless entertainment. You're taking it way more seriously than I am if you feel the need to resent me for what comic books I enjoy.

This is the same internet that screams and whines about "casual" games.

I know that they do that, but it is a giant bomb quick look. They do whatever they want and ever since the first few QL's have said that its not really fair and balanced or unbiased.

:(

I like to look at screened and tested and like all of the people that they have on those but it was cool when they had discussions between all of the people about different things on Kessler Kam. That is the one thing I will miss the most with Kessler gone.

I'm not even a fan of SP (all I've seen is the movie trailer and the GB QL of the game) but if Jeff and Brad are going to be giant hypocrites then it's OK to point that out.
