Sonic hasn't been good in forever if you're looking for the type of game sonic used to be. That shit has flushed away ages ago. If you're into the Rush and Advanced games this might be cool, but I think a lot of the people whining about how shitty sonic is need to just deal with it.gif and stop caring. That's not what it is anymore. It's about speed and holding right.
I liked Sonic Rush and the first Sonic Advance and this looks terrible.

This is the first time I've bothered watching any extended footage of Sonic 4 and I have to ask, WTF were all the reviewers smoking? This is hideous! Horrible, counter intuitive physics, Poor level design, no sense of speed.

This looks way worse then even Rush and I hated Rush.

Its better then rush.

Reviews are usually indicative of an entire game, these quick looks don't serve as Giant Bomb's critical critique. I'm sure Sega's thinking was, people want a classic Sonic game, so they figure they'd make one unbeknownst to the fact that the gameplay can never hold up. I did love how Brad pulled a 'I liked this band before they were popular' card.

Only if you're some kind of weirdo who is allergic to the idea that Sonic can be a different game than he was in the Sega Genesis era, maybe.

Sonic 4 is a weird amalgam of Sonic Rush style controls and physics in a game that doesn't really feel like it was designed for them. I bought Sonic 4 to review it, and all throughout my time playing the game, I have to fight the urge to play it the same way you would play the old Sega Genesis games, because you really cannot.

Even though the game is being deliberately positioned as a follow-up to Sonic 3.

Sonic Rush levels are designed with Sonic Rushing in mind. Sonic 4 feels like they ported classic Sonic levels in to the Sonic Rush engine and tried to lazily retool them to be somehow playable. So you can't really play it like a 16bit Sonic, and you can't really play it like Sonic Rush. It's some weird frankenstein of the two and does neither justice.

The only thing I have to say about Sonic 4 is that it has a pinball style level like Casino Street and Sonic's pinball style physics are fucked. Look at this shit.

Sonic 4 looks so goddamn atrocious. :lol

Looks like a classic lightgun shooter! I like the destructibility of [some] the environment, even if it's very limited. PS360 have been totally starved for these types of games (well, 360 still is).

Too bad the one guy who was into these on GAF (M33 something?) got perm'd.

I just saw a bit over a quarter of the game. I'd say I've seen enough to make an initial criticism. Seriously, it looks so horrid.

- Sonic decelerating on vertical descents, being able to loose all moment at the oddest moments, through loops at walking pace and other really weird bastardisations of conventional physics.
- Sonic loosing all momentum on vine swings and then when you let go you fly off with the wrong trajectory.
- Bumpers everywhere with the least intuitive positioning possible.
- Rings placement that forces you to miss your jumps to get them.
- Level ending out of nowhere.
- Return of the shitty Megadrive ultra close up camera...
- Counter balanced by making Sonic really slow.
And so on.

I'm just not seeing the fun.

I'm not going to lie, this game looks great. I'm sure it would get boring as hell after you have beaten all 3 games the first time, but watching them play the Pirate version was just entertaining. Especially the part where they suddenly get cannons and have to shoot the approaching ghost pirate ships. The dubbing sounds C-Movie awesome too.

If I had a PSMove i would rent this, buy a bottle of bourbon or a case of beer, get a friend, and beat it in a day. It would probably be hilarious.

Wow. Razing Storm looked a lot better in the QL than what I experienced with the demo. Hopefully it was just a bad demo, because I was looking forward to it. The Dread Pirate game looked awesome.

Their cutegasm is great. That's exactly how they are supposed to show this game. Can't imagine Jeff doing this QL, though. :lol

"It makes me angry how fucking much I enjoy this game."

They're on a roll with these QL lately. So many of them. It's like they really want me to become a subscriber but then they still don't offer PayPal. Aww, whatever.

And lulz at Vinny asking "Is it red?". :lol

Ohmahgawd I need a Wii so bad.

Sonic looks so shitty. Really? This is it, SEGA? This is your big franchise reboot? The lack of creativity or any innovation whatsoever is kind of shocking.
