There's a meme about Bethany from way back in the day that I won't link to because it's mean-spirited.
I was part of GameFAQs back when Gamespot bought them out, so I'll never forget my first look of BethanyM

and her innocent question, "Could this be Lord of the Rings meets Final Fantasy?"

I saw her a few months back on a live GiantBomb event, and it blew my mind that she was still around and not NEARLY as ugly and confused looking as her profile picture made her out to be

I love Brad's "trick" of dying to fire in a way that normal people would never die to it :lol

"I don't know that I ever knew that that was the case because I- who would ever do that? Why would you jump at that?"

:lol

I'm so weak. I actually went out and bought the All-Star Collection. I have it on SNES but I'm too lazy to hook all that up to my HDTV and the packaging was so pretty.

Eh whatever, at least I know I'll enjoy playing the games.

Also the logic that this is an SNES game therefore it would only be $8 on VC is kind of wrong. Do you think Nintendo would ever come out with all this for $8? They would charge you individually for 1, 2, 3, and the Lost Levels. Going by that this pack would normally cost you $15 on VC and that's not including the Lost Levels because that is not available on VC currently.

There was a later version of All-Stars that had World as a seperate executable on the cart a la Mario/Duck Hunt. But of course, that's not the version we're getting!

Wtf? That's totally lame. I always thought World came with All Stars.

Actually the All-Stars rom would just cost the $8, individually priced you would get the 8-bit versions. Similar in a sense, but All-stars is uniquely different to the NES VC releases.

Also I really thought Lost Levels came out on VC in NA. Didn't they do it a few years ago as an import title? It was the Famicom 8-bit original.

Also, what's more ridiculous is that I bought All-Stars on SNES at launch for retail price of either $59.99 or $69.99. Can't remember which. SNES games were fucking expensive brand new back then! Square Enix used to charge fucking $79.99 for all of their major releases! (Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy III, etc...)

Lost Levels is out on the US VC, as the 600-point NES import title Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan).

But yeah, from a purely business standpoint, it would not be realistic to expect Nintendo to release All-Stars for 800 points on the VC. Every top __ list I've seen show that the Mario games are some of the top-selling VC titles, and at an 800-point price point, All-Stars would definitely cannibalize any future sales of those games (800 points vs. 2100 points for all four). If released on the VC, then at best, All-Stars would be priced at around the sum of the four NES games, around 2000 points.

This is what I mean. I know in an ideal world Nintendo would release the SNES rom for $8 but lets be honest, why would they do that. To me the value of the games in the collection is about $20 so I still feel they are charging a bit too much for All-Stars. However, if they had just added Super Mario World I feel like the collection would easily be worth $30. Also comparing the price of a digital download to a physical copy isn't quite equal either. I personally and a physical copy fiend. I would probably buy physical copies of a lot of PSN and XBL games if certain titles existed as hard copies. I'd buy them even if they were $5 more expensive than their digital counterparts.

I have to admit, despite the fact that this game is maybe a bit more expensive than it should be, they packaging is very nice. The retro art definitely looks cool and so does the cover of the actual Wii case inside. At least the packaging and book are nice, albeit smallish.

Ultimately it would've been really awesome if they added in Super Mario World, a bigger book, and perhaps some type of DVD with some special features. I would've easily paid $50 for that.

why does giantbomb have their wii set to 480i? they mentioned having component cables in a quick look so wtf!
If I remember correctly back at the old office they had talked about how fucked it is trying to capture video at 480p, it would have required some really expensive hardware. If I remembered when they said that I would link it, but it was a while back.

Edit: Beaten.

The fuck is Brad kind of a moron? They are playing All Stars, and he's trying to get to the warpzone. Why is he trying this dumbass movie by going up backwards into it? :lol :lol

There is an elevator part right before it and you can easily get up to the warpzone :lol :lol

Did they ever play this? Ridiculous.

Which he should also know if he actually listened. I am also pretty sure that Ryan was playing. :lol

Minus world, dude.
Somtimes it's hard to tell who's trolling on GAF, and who's just ignorant.

This actually looked worse than I expected. It seems like it's really just a re-skin of the regular Costume Quest with no improvements. I sure liked Costume Quest and didn't mind that it was a pretty short game, but there's just not enough to do in the world of Costume Quest. The fights were fun for the first 15 times, they then bacame the most boring part of the game. Seems like the only fun thing to do in this one is to get the new costumes. I'll probably skip it.

I said I was pretty sure, not that I was sure. They were switching around and I only watched it once. At least I listen to them and know what they are doing. :D

Hahah what the fuck.. I guess I do fail at classic gaming :lol

In my defence I had some music on and I was just figuring they were trying to get to the warp zone, I'm like wtf is he doing?

Never even knew that shit :lol

My bad ^^ Sorry Brad ( or Ryan in this case ).

It's cool, MMaRsu.

Being honest, I always heard about Minus world when I was a kid but never went there or learned how to myself till yesterday. :lol

Another thing I never knew till yesterday was that there was a flute in level 3 of SMB3. That totally blew my mind when I saw them do that. I thought there was only a flute in the castle. :lol

I had never even heard of minus world until now and I've beaten All Stars quite a few times :lol

By the power of GAF's bylaws invested in me, and by virtue of my sweet Christmas avatar, i hereby revoke MMaRsu's gaming cred for the period of one month, until sufficient knowledge of gaming history is demonstrated. May god have mercy on your soul.

What's the point of watching a Quick Look if you aren't listening? Especially if it's something like Mario All Stars which you'll have no doubt played before. It boggles the mind man! Boggles!

Well I was listening in and out..

And I'm sorry guys! My gaming cred has been removed :(

I also don't know my Mario. Was more of an Atari ST / Sega Master System / Mega Drive kid. Then transferred over to PC as soon as that made sense (like 93 or whatever). And then came the Playstation.

The only games on Nintendo consoles I'm sort of familiar with are Street Fighter II and F-Zero.

Played a bit of Zelda as a kid, but I don't remember much.

So for instance, when I think Tetris, I think MS-DOS Tetris.

Man so many people who don't know their Mario, this is depressing.

SMB3 is one of the few games I know inside out, I can almost understand GB missing the trick to call in the airship in 1-1, but missing the secret 1up in 1-2? Come on now.

Did YOU ever play it? And it was Jeff playing at the time...

Do you just mute quick looks or something?
