While it's quite I hope they do more themed quicklook weeks.

Steam hidden gems, Xbox indies, Wiiware etc...
Not likely.

Ryan has Playstation Plus which gets him a bunch of stuff for "free."

watched a bit of the dc universe quick look...

damn guys...

jaded much?
Are they hating on it the whole time?

If so, not watching. I hate when they get super dismissive of games and hate for no good reason.

I watched some of the live stream yesterday and they seemed to be having a pretty good time with it.

Jeff railed on DC Universe in their streamed drive-home thing he and Ryan do, basically saying the game is shit and nobody will care about it once the free 30 days runs out.

I would say he's probably right. It will be another Star Trek. Most people will forget it is around soon.

I only watched about 15 minutes of it so I may have gotten the wrong impression, but yes..

They basically ridiculed the game on such a fundamental level I don't see how they could find enjoyment in any videogame.

Maybe it was just a bad day at the office, etc...

*shrug*

The game looks pretty damn weak I have to admit. I actually had hope for this but then watching them play, running around a lifeless, empty, flat city doing checkpoint and fetch quests made it seem really shitty. The only good moment was when they climbed a building and the city looked decent from up there but that's not much to do on.

SoE continue to disappoint by using good ideas and franchises and turn them into dull and boring MMO's that scream "we had potential".

ehhh. I can see why Dave dislikes it. There are two other super hero mmo's out there, one being City of Heroes which has lasted a lot longer than most MMO's, and has a boat load of content. And Champions online is going free Jan 25th. He's probably played both, and the interface in DC Universe is just a mess compared to other MMO's. What does this game offer besides licensed super heroes? Not much from the quick look.

Also, the lack of sound from their character is a legitimate complaint, and seems lazy on the devs part.

I played Champions Online through Beta and I must say I'm quite unimpressed by DCU. Interface issues, far less customization options, the terrible UI etc. They have legitimate gripes about the game, and I can't help but feel they dumbed down the game as an MMO for the console audience. A shame too, because I think they could have done a lot of cool things with this license.

Well i liked what I played of the beta. Felt less like an diku/eq skin and more of an action game, which is what I'd want from a supers game. The console controls needed some work though.

i think it was the bad day at the office that got you :)

I just saw the whole QL (it was downloaded as part of the subscriber video feed - it's still not on the site) and they only really started getting snarky and dismissive when the gameplay turned into "defeat 5 enemies" now "defeat 15 enemies" etc and that was around 40 minutes into it... But, even at the end, they still seemed at least somewhat positive on the overall vibe of being in this universe

they were really into the character creation stuff for the first 30 minutes or so. I didn't notice any bad vibes there at all.

Well..

I did have a root canal yesterday which required my gums being sliced open and my jawbone reshaped to expose more of the tooth.

Maybe you're right.

;)

My main problem is not with any valid criticisms of the game as far as UI, controls, and mission/quest structure but rather their overall dismissive attitude towards the game on a fundamental "lack of suspension of disbelief" level.

They seem to love games which are the epitome of videogame ridiculousness and require the player to throw logic out the window in order to enjoy them.

Why the sudden double-standard?

PS

I apologize for not expressing myself more properly, more throughly, etc...

Dave says exactly why he doesn't like it. Any game where you have to collect 25 of anything is not a good game, and I happen to agree. The gameplay of DC looked okay during the ship escape, but once he got to Gotham and it was all lame fetch quests it seemed like another huge waste of time.

Dave seems to have a case of WoW selective blindness, though. Not sure I'm interested in DC, but it really doesn't seem that vastly different from what MMOs are.

You're right, it's not that different from other MMOs, it's just that MMOs are generally crap games.

Is Swarm coming to PC by the way? The other Hothead stuff did.
