The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

I'd rather it be a relatively simple puzzle-platform thing than a couple of hour long dungeon crawl. The main reason I played Persona was for the story.

That said, the JRPG combat in Persona 3 & 4 was great. There was just too much of it.

Everything looks awesome except the shove-boxes gameplay.

Is this one of several minigames in the game, or is that really all there's to the actual gameplay?

It's something that you really need to play. There are several people in the demo impressions thread that didn't think that they'd like it until they actually played it. The puzzle element is really addicting. It should be even more addicting in the full game since it has leaderboards.

Yep the story looks way more interesting than the gameplay to me. That's kinda why it's a bad idea to import it if you don't understand Japanese.

Never entered a Catherine thread on GAF before, but that QL and game seemed awesome.

If it's released in English. At the moment Atlus considers Catherine to be a Japan only game.
I have faith that it will see an English release. Atlus know that their fan base will gobble up anything by the Persona team and the game has been garnering a ton of interest in their specific niche target group. I just really hope it comes out in English sooner rather than later. I need this game. The story themes just seem so damn interesting. If it had an English text option I would import it in a heartbeat.

If it was meant to be a Japan-only game, why didn't they just keep it PS3 only? The 360 simultaneous release is almost a 100% confirmation they want to release it in a market that gives a flying fuck about the Xbox.

Or it's because Persona 5 needs to be on both worldwide and this is essentially their 'Rockstar's Table Tennis', in that it's a chance to get their engine up and running and recoup the costs before their major project.

However, I think it will come out in the US.

Catherine was the best quick look I've seen on Giantbomb hahahhaah! So funny

I'm getting kind of into Catherine after seeing that QL. I'm always up for a good puzzle game and it seems there's going to be more to it as well.

I got an endurance run vibe when Brad asked Jeff if he was going to import it and Jeff was like, "Yeah, we should do something."

I know, its probably a pipe dream but it was fun having all 4 guys for the QL.

Hurry up and bring Catherine over here Atlus!

THIS!

I can't wait for Atlus US to finally announce it. At least it looks like Jeff is going to import it which means some more high quality footage of the final game.

Vincent's jacket says Italian Stallion. This has to have an endurance run now. It would be a crime to not do one.
I think Atlus is actually making this game to thank Vinny for all the extra sales the Endurance Run got them.

Holy shit! Catherine really blowing my mind, I really like puzzle games so to see one with so much production and story on the side of the puzzle gameplay really makes me happy :o) I can see how people that were expecting something like what Atlus usually offers might be disappointed but this really feels like a fun and fresh direction to take this genre. Good on Atlus for doing this!

Brad and Ryan should stick to their Bulletstorm Endurance Run.

Assuming that this is a "they only like games with SICK GUNZ" remark (correct me if I'm wrong), their tastes are much broader than that. Limbo, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX don't rate highly on the shooting dudes scale, but they loved them anyways.

I don't think that kind of puzzle gameplay would suit an endurance run. The last game I thought would be good was Civ 5, wouldn't even take that long.

Civ 5 would make for an incredibly boring endurance run. These things work best with quirky games that have story in them.

How could this be their Table Tennis? They're obviously spending a lot of money on cutscenes.

OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

Best surprise during a busy Friday at work ever. EVER.

Edit: Not that I'm contributing anything to the conversation at all, not having watched it yet. But my joy has to go SOMEWHERE and if I start shouting at my desk someone might notice.

Yeah, it'd be because of the story, not the gameplay. And even then it's because it's an interesting story - what was the last game that was about relationships and not space marine elves?

I didn't mean it quite that literally. I just meant a smaller project that both helps them establish technology in anticipation for their major project, and to recoup some cash.

Kind of reminds me of a Suda game. The gameplay may not be all that great, but it's totally worth playing due to the interesting story and the crazy atmosphere.

Haven't they talked about how they don't want to do multiple endurance runs for games from the same publisher?

I remember them saying specifically "We are not in the business of spoiling Atlus games". I think it was a response to people who kept asking them to do endurance runs of more Atlus games. They seemed genuinely interested here, though.

Jeff very specifically said they wouldn't do an endurance run for Catherine when they talked about it quite a while ago.

But the teases being thrown about can only give me hope.
