Haven't had a lag-free GB stream since forever. I hope this one works better. :I
The last 2 Liveshows were surprisingly fine for me. Fingers crossed but I am prepared to download it later.

The MvC3 livestream worked great for me, but I also had bad experiences before that. There always is the download later on should there be problems.

It's old news by now, but I quite enjoy Hard Corps: Uprising, for what its worth. As demonic, douchetastically hard as it is, I guess I'm willing to give it a free pass because Contra has always been that kind of douchetastic demon-hard, and point in fact it's actually way easier than stuff like Shattered Soldier and Contra 4 (though why Krystal inexplicably has less health than Bahamut with no benefit to using her is just poor design). It's no Alien Wars by any stretch of the imagination, but it's fun, if not a bit on the uncreative side.

Also the load times are only, like, ten seconds. I have no idea what the hell happened in that Quick Look.

EDIT: well okay, maybe not ten seconds (I just timed loading the first level - around 20 seconds), but it certainly doesn't feel as long and arduous as anything in that Quick Look.

If you're going to copy Heavy Rain copy the part where the game doesn't end because you died. "Oh hey you messed up that QTE time to do it over again how great is that!"

Should we post these here or in the other thread? (Video is on the QL section, so...)

Ask Me Anything: Dirt 3 (13:42 min.) (Ryan / Drew / Dave)

This looks fantastic. Never played Dirt 1 or 2 but I'm very interested in 3 now. I liked the freestyle part since it seems like a great way to practice the controls (coming from someone who sucks at driving games)

You can't jump in Gears, either.

Gears isn't about crazy shit with lots of verticality and stuff. It's heavier, every step is a loud THUNK, much.. "ploddier" is the word I'm thinking of but that has negative connotations I don't intend.

Having no jumping in a game like bulletstorm seems completely insane and not in a good way.

Have you played the game? There is demo you know? Jumping would be totally useless and in fact jumping is absolutely unnecessary in a FPS if it is designed around it.

You can't jump in bulletstorm!?

YOU CANT JUMP IN BULLETSTORM!!?

What
The
Furniture

I've played through the entire first act of the game and spent some time in Anarchy mode, and I never thought to myself "I sure wish I could jump right now".

If this was a deathmatch game like Unreal, I'd probably complain. But there's really no need for it in Bulletstorm.

There's not much verticality in Bulletstorm either. Well, unless you're talking about sending enemies vertical.

I donnt see the need for a jump in this game.

I kind of don't get the appeal of this game. Maybe it's Jeff play style but for an all out action game this all seems ridiculously dull.

There is nothing wrong with that. i played the demo and didn't really like the game either.

Is there a forward roll?

Games are only allowed to not have jumping if there is a forward roll that is quicker than running resulting in you forward rolling everwhere
You can slide.

You can sprint and there also is a slide.

If this is dull, than at least 90% of other shooters must be deathly boring to you.

Did you watch the grindwheel section?

Kill with skill thing sounds like it could get real old, real fast. Especially if you just want to get through a level.

But I guess that's the whole point of the game.

i had to turn off the stream because of his playstyle. its like he was really trying to make the game look bad (and spending minutes in the menus didnt help).

Yeah, Ryan tried to push him, but he played a bit weird. I hope Brad reviews this.

So was Jeff just trying to play it like a typical shooter or something?

If that's what you do, than of course it's going to look bad.

"hey why do i die man???", "because 10 enemies are firing at you and you dont get into cover like the game tells you..."

Pretty much all I saw was leash>kick>shoot and some variants of the three combined with dumb constantly yelling enemies. Not exactly tickling my excitement bone.
But hey, might just be a case of watching someone play it poorly. Watching Jeff play Killzone 3 was also awful.

Admittedly, the game doesn't give you too many tools in the very beginning. It picks up a bit once you hit the first dropkit that starts giving you the skillshots. From there, the environment comes more into play. Kicking dudes into cacti and metal spikes, exploding barrels, etc. You really should play the demo if you haven't already. And be sure you experiment.

The quicklook didn't start at the beginning of the game. I think it was the start of the second act?

He went until a part where he controlled a giant robot godzilla and seemed to enjoy that

He did use the assault rifle through most of his time playing which was the most boring weapon in the demo.

the whole having to buy ammo thing looked really annoying, i think thats a terrible idea

It's cheap and you get plenty of points. You buy a full clip for essentially the price of two easy kills or one skillful kill. If you've got a really solid kill, you can buy multiple clips off a single kill. And ammo still drops from enemies.

no its not. jeff just sucked at the game and was too stupid to buy ammo (which he admited).
i never had ammo problems and i was playing on hard.

people should learn not to judge a game based on a gb quicklook. they made shenmue and demons souls look bad ffs!

well i think having to choose between spending points on upgrades or ammo would be really irritating because i would never want to spend it on ammo, kind of like what jeff said in the QL

i guess that doesnt bother some people but that kind of thing really gets to me

i dunno maybe you get so much dropped from enemies that it doesnt matter but in a game like that the last thing you want to think about is running out of ammo because you didnt buy enough

Naw, they're just bad games.

"Bad" is a mostly subjective term. Shenmue nor Demon's Souls are fundamentally broken games from the developer's standpoint - they are the products they were intended to be. The only true bad games are ones that are unfinished and do not function properly - but even those, like Jurassic Park Trespasser, have dedicated cult followings.

which will probably provide you with exponentially more feedback than Demons Souls' combat system.

---DEMON'S SOULS BURN---

and what's the deal with the apostrophe pattern in the title when you use it in a possessive form. that's pretty wack

---DEMON'S SOULS' BURN---

Downloading Bullstorm from steam right now (People Can Fly are good peoples) but I didn't enjoy Bullstorm too much from the demo. It's a game that rewards skillful kills but I felt like I had to fight the game more often than not to get anywhere with them.

Also, the FOV in this (and most UE3 games, it seems) makes me want to hurl. Too narrow? It feels like the camera is hovering a few inches in front of where your character is.

cuevas said:
Buy guys, the controls in that game are broken.

DS? They are perfectly fine for a slow and methodical game, and way more complex than MASH X TO WINNNNNNNNNN. The game even has a system to queue up button presses. Find me another RPG that comes close to being that tight and responsive.
