That's right - we should only watch Quick Looks where they like the game they're playing. And Heaven knows that when someone has an opinion other than our own they must just not be giving the game a fair shake...

This QL is just reaffirming what I already knew - Hunted isn't for me. Looks generic as hell, and boring to boot. I don't doubt that it pushes some gamers buttons, but it doesn't push any of mine.
I don't think this game looks great and I will never buy it, but the way he handles this quicklook is embarrassing.

Sure, why not. Nothing particularly wrong with liking your opinion to match up with someone you look towards for their opinion. Likewise it's kinda a bummer when they don't. That and their more critical critique during QLs seem to colour the overall mood of the comments.

Well to each his own I guess, but my opinions are mine and I don't really need them validated by others nor are they suddenly not valid just because someone I usually agree with somehow doesn't agree with me. You know, that's why they're individual, hence why I was suprised at your "fear" of his opinion when you obviously already like the game.

edit : also, I was just curious don't take my post as a hostile rant or something :)

That's not the argument being made. The concept and intent of a quicklook is compromised when the people playing the game already come into it with preconceived (accurate or not) opinions on whether or not they will like the game.

Jeff, the guy is not fighting with a torch, it's called a club. Ever heard of Captain Caveman?
The guy is fighting with a weapon called "Torch" if the game itself is to be believed.

Giant Bomb is not aiming to be objective and covering each game on equal grounds.
You have to accept that.

Just so my position isn't misunderstood:
I'm not being a Giant Bomb apologist. They've shit on games I've enjoyed, in Quick Looks and on the Bombcast. You just have to roll with the concept that they are an opinionated bunch and that's what they're selling on the website.

It is fine if they decide during the course of the quicklook whether or not they like the game, what's good and what's bad, etc. Coming into it with the express purpose seeking confirmation bias is really of no value, desire or entertainment to a viewer unless they happen to share the same bias. But even then...

It goes a little deeper than just saying "it's not meant to be objective, deal with it," that is nothing but a dismissive excuse. It's not about objectivity or subjectivity, it's about good content.

You are right. This is true enough. This topic however only flames up when they show a game and they don't like it.
Nobody complains when they Quick Look games after they've given 5 stars to it though.

So basically I agree that Quick Looks are at its best when they haven't played the game before. (Maybe 5 minutes to skip the first part of the tutorial or something like that.)

A good example would be the QL of Demon's Souls.
They didn't play the game before. In the process of playing the game they've mostly decided it didn't look good.

I welcome QLs where they completely shit on the game. Ryan is at his best when he dissects games. I'm just sick of the "bored" QLs. The First Templar is shoddier then Armageddon or Hunted, but the QL is far more entertaining.

People hate it when they come into quick looks having not played the game at all though. "Uninformed" and all that. You have to accept that they can't please everyone, and sometimes that includes you.

It's one of those games where they've already made up their minds about it before even playing any real amount of it. QLs like this aren't even worth watching as they just nitpick the title to death.

Thats a shame. I haven't watched the QL yet but I've been playing Hunted. Its bargain bin stuff but theres still a lot of fun to be had. The side puzzles that they do in each level are really nice.

The character banter is also pretty good, not the story mind you. Well, so far.

...how did they miss the hanging prisoner in the Hunted Quick Look when they were literally a foot away from him at one point, looking straight at him?

By not caring for that game, apparently.

Agreed. Why would they bother to continue that Hunted QL for 40 minutes when they seemed so bored?

Vinny should be mandatory in QLs.

Also, from Ryan's Twitter:
Guys! TNT is *totally* happening today, and it's gonna be a crazy, pre-E3 grab bag of STUFF. stay tooned!
So Mortal Kombat then?

That Hamilton's Adventure QL was great by the way.

1) Jeff says that he thought he heard the audio cue come out of the right speaker, so he turned to the right.
2) He just missed it maybe? Heaven knows I've done some stupid stuff while playing games before. Pretty sure we all have.

Of course, it's much easier to just smugly dismiss him as being a horrible person so we can feel better about ourselves.

I will say that I miss the days of the 20 minute quick looks. These days the average QL is 40 minutes...

But when they come into it fresh like that it's always "lol Giant Bomb uninformed, they need to do research!".

Nah. I hate it when they play a game explicitly meant for co-op single player, even though there's another person right next to him. They didn't even try it once, and it's the main point of the game! Quicklook fail.

I'm not doing that at all. I just thought it was strange, especially since Jeff is the one that most often catches things that the other guys don't. I know they do their quick looks on the couch set, so I wonder if they have the lights up making it difficult to see - they've mentioned that being an issue in past videos.

I agree, but they have different ways of shitting on the games. They either go in knowing it's not a great game and still play along and have fun with it, like The First Templar (which I actually want to pick up now after the QL). Or they go in with a truly negative "I hate this game"-mentality like in The Conduit 2 QL, which was just frustrating to watch because they were harsh against the game for the sake of being harsh, if that makes sense.

I think it's just a matter of choosing the wrong people to be in the wrong QL, but that's tolerable, and it's really easy to just refrain from watching the whole thing if it isn't entertaining.

I would not recommend All Videos, as that means auto downloading loads of terrible trailers and other stuff. I personally have a Features (which is TNT, Building The Bastion, and Happy Hour), a Quick Look and a Reviews one set up. I might put an Event on in for E3.

Yeah, nobody should have to listen to Cher.

Some track designers are just sadistic assholes!

man I love Trackmania and it looks like the German community is still going strong judging by this QL. I should reinstall the game just to play it for a couple of hours... *falls into rabbit hole*

Not when the concept is "I like watching quicklooks by the giantbomb guys". That happens to be the concept for me, so it works out and gives me exactly what I want, whether I hate, love, or am totally disinterested in the game being quicklooked.

Fucking hilarious when the chorus of that Cher song kicked in. Y'know, I was curious as to why Ryan was tweeting about Cher and Trackmania together earlier this week.

I didn't see it either. I'm actually kinda curious where the prisoner was, do you have an image of it that you can point him out in?

Wow for some reason since their redesign a week or so ago I've been having serious buffering issues on their vids, it just takes so long while before I never even thought about it, just pressed play and watched.
