It was all I could do to keep watching when he said Deus Ex was "barely playable" before they installed the texture pack.

I can't even comprehend that kind of mindset.

Maybe you should watch the video again, since that's the opposite of what I said.

It gives a more authentic representation of the PC experience.
What? You can force Vsync and tripple buffering on PC. What I think you meant to say was that all that screen tearing is more faimiliar and comfortable to them since they mainly play console games.

Does System Shock 2 really look that bad now? I actually wanted to give it a shot but when you said that was almost unplayable because it aged so poorly, I got a little wary.

Yes, fellow PC gamers, that was a joke. Don't get too excited.

Because Vsync doesn't exist? ;)

does it work for the FMV movies? i tend to notice screentearing for FMV curscenes and intro movies for older PC games.

i found a LP on YT where they installed an enhanced visual mod and it still looked pretty bad. the audio holds up tho.

I think the screen tear is the capture device's fault, I don't think they're actually having tears while playing. I've noticed them say before how there isn't screentear while it's tearing up a storm.

I still think it looks ok

We have a winner, folks!

Some of the assumptions you guys make are asinine. Do you really think we don't know what v-sync is?

I don't think so, no, but in the actual game you never need to have screen tearing on a PC!

I never said that. I was informing the poster that said it accurately represented PC gaming that Vsync exists.

Defensive much?

Snarky forum comments aside console games also tend to have screen tearing issues. But again our replies were directed to the poster that said screen tearing is indicative of PC games.

Edit: I doubt anyone here wants to direct personal attacks at you guys. Especialy when you take the time to post here.

For a Deus Expert Patrick doesn't remember much about the game.

Whatever, awesome QL.

on one of the E3 podcasts he said Prey 2 was more like Deus Ex than Human Revolution. Prey 2 looks incredibly awesome, but that's a nay no.

They all seem to know very, very little about Deus Ex: HR, other than it doesn't show very well at a loud, crowded trade show. In a week they'll see...they'll see...

The Weekend Confirmed podcast and the little bits they've said about it on the Bombcast have me VERY worried about Human Revolution's critical reception.

True, but a LOT of people that played that leaked preview build were very happy with it.

You never know on GAF. You have people who still think it costs £3000 to build a decent PC and that you can't play it on a couch, so... !
I'd pay £3000 if Zip Express Installation came to assemble my PC.

Those were pretty much the only two places, turns out, where there was a negative opinion, and it was based solely on E3. The three reviews out so far are a 8/10, 94% and 10/10. I'm not "worried," it's gonna be a great game for fans of the first Deus Ex.

Oh I certainly was. But I use Demon's Souls as an example. If that game didn't review as well as it did? I bet it would've been dead in the water.

Yeah, I kinda wonder how reviewers will feel about it, but I too played that preview build so unless the rest of the game turns out to be complete shit than I know I will probably love it.

It's an Atlus published game. Word of mouth and fan reception is just as important for their games. Considering when they sell in the range of 100k units.

I'm sure it will be like a more positive Alpha Protocol. Whereas that had low from US and average scores Euro critics, Deus Ex will get average and high.

Nothing wrong with that. Tastes differ between regions.

I hope Vinny reviews HR. It seems like a Vinny game.

He'd play it the most interesting way.

He probably won't, though :(
What was the last game he reviewed? I can't even remember. Was it a Dragon Ball game?

Goldmund said:

No idea. I don't really pay attention to the reviews, but on the podcast it always seems like he's just been playing a game for fun, not reviewing it.

Hopefully he plays it day one so we get some solid Vinny views on it!

I wouldn't mind seeing a Klepick, Dave or Drew review, or even Kessler. Just not Ryan or Jeff, who have already seemingly made up their minds about it. Jeff kept calling it the same as Alpha Protocol iirc and Ryan has been frustratingly dismissive about it, like he is with almost everything.

Two years ago. Goddamn. :(

I mean, he's probably more into the video production side and stuff, but I think most GAFers will agree Vinny always has a unique take on games that more often than not represents my own views on games.

I'd love to get more in-depth views on Vinny for, well, pretty much every game!

Patrick played through the first few hours of it at home.

I haven't watched too many quick looks and I'm afraid I've missed some classics. Is there a top 10 list or something like that floating around?

Things like the farm simulator were amazing.

I don't think there is, but maybe your post will encourage somebody to dig through the archives.

Try this: "Best of Giant Bomb Quick Looks"

Just look at the names of the quick looks if you want to watch them in full. My personal favorites are Darkest of Days and Rogue Warrior. The Leisure Suit Larry one is also pretty hilarious.

So he's really just dense then.

There's no way you could play the same preview that plenty of people on GAF has played and spout the same bullshit he did on that E3 podcast.

It'd be nice if you could get him to come in here so he can explain himself! :)
