Not usually a FPS fan, but I think I want this. Has a firm release date or price even been mentioned?

This, and also that E.Y.E. Cybermancy quicklook, really make me want to get back into PC gaming.

If you want a Quick Look you might have missed, during a promo GB did for some show in July they played some games.

http://www.justin.tv/giantbomb/b/290741426

Dave/Vinny playing some obscure RPG at around 42 minutes and at around 1 hour 13 minutes there is an amazing Cliffs of Dover game with Dave/Vinny/Drew. The ending is hilarious. Click on Part 2 to see the end of it too.

I saw that a Serious Sam BFE quick look was coming like 90 min ago in the "coming up on giant bomb" but now its not in the list and neither in the video section.

Is this normal? I have never wait for a video before, maybe its usual that they get delayed.

I just came in here to post about this too. I was really looking forward to finally seeing a bunch of Serious Sam 3 but now it's disappeared :(

Once they opened up the possibility of downloading Quick Looks, I setup a script to back them up to my NAS, from which I can stream them from my PS3 in the living room. Up to 159.8GB (HD) in 230 videos.

When I find some downtime, it's nice to know I have a ton of videos to catch up on. Keep it coming, guys!

Iron sight in my Serious Sam? I don't like that. Well, at least there is no health regen.
It's not like it's gonna make the game any easier or less frantic. I'm not complaining as long as the enemy counts are high.

WTF!!! This game is almost out already? Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Any idea on how spoilery the quick look is? Having never played either game I'd like to remain non spoiled on them.

Sep 27. GET READY.

Quick look only shows the beginning of both games but these two are more about the experience than the story and I would just go in blind if I were you.

I haven't seen the quick look but it's worth it (at least in SotC) to not see any of the enemies before playing it.

Fine fine fine, I'll skip this QL for the time being. I have others I need to catch up on anyways.

I didn't realize the game was so close to coming out though.

I know it's the running joke, but holy fuck is Brad awful at games.

I feel like during a lot of Quicklooks I find myself asking how veteran game journalists can have such a bad intuitive understanding of games. And it's not always Brad.

And I don't mean they are literally bad at succeeding in games, but they don't seem to figure out very quickly what to do in a given situation which is odd considering how similar all videogames tend to be at some level.

Yeah. You'd think that someone who had been playing and reviewing games for a living would be able to decipher and figure out game systems a little quicker than it seems like they do sometimes.

"Oh, I seem to be randomly falling off the colossus despite always holding the grip button. Mayhaps I should look for some sort of indicator on the screen that might explain this phenomenon. Nah."

"Oh, constantly hitting only one of the attack buttons in this game doesn't seem to be giving me much success. Perhaps by hitting the other attack button in sequence with this first one I can perform some sort of combo. Nah."

It's not just Brad yeah, Ryan was watching it too, you have this huge pink circle in the corner of the screen, that starts shrinking when you hold something. How that can't be apparent to anyone, let alone someone who's already beat the game and is a professional reviewer of games is beyond my comprehension.

As for the Tetris QL, I do remember watching one, on PS3, don't remember how good they were at it, although even having played for years I suck at Tetris so I'm not sure I'd notice.

You guys are always so clever when watching the QL and judging the guys playing. So funny.
It's like trying to fire a weapon with a massive ammo counter showing 0 in the corner, it's hardly a question of being clever.

If I had watched that Quick Look without any previous knowledge of SOTC I could now think that it includes a mechanic where your character randomly looses his grip while climbing with no indication as to why. And since climbing seems like an important part of the game I would definitely consider the existence of said mechanic as a negative when making a buying decision about the game.

Are you saying we're wrong? That we're video game savants, unfairly holding the common man to an unobtainable standard?

Video games have a universal grammar and all you need to do to learn it is to play them enough. Surely these guys have played them enough. Maybe they play artificially slowly for the benefit of Quicklooks, I don't know. There's just a surprising lack of expertise on display, and I'm not saying this because I think I could do what they do better than them, or because I think I should be a games journalist and they shouldn't. I was just pointing out something I find very odd given how humans learn things.

for god's fucking sake it's a big pink circle in the corner that shrinks when you start gripping and makes a noise when your grip is almost gone and when the circle is gone you fall off and then it starts building up again

brad could quick look super mario bros. 1, never find the run button, consistently die to the first goomba, and never beat the first stage, and people would still rush in to say "he's not that bad guys, i wouldn't do any better"

Ironsights, reloading, and sprinting still don't feel "right" to me in Serious Sam. Just reloading by itself completely changes the feel.

Sprinting? You need to be running ALL THE TIME!

Running and not being able to gun at the same time? Nope.

Well this might actually be too complex for the average person to grasp. However Brad and the GB people are gamers and it should be easy for them. Especially since they should have had some experience with this game before.

Brad: "There's a way to call your horse, I'm trying to remember how to do it but... whatever."

*doesn't even try to call horse*

Just push the buttons and see what happens! There is no risk!

They are showing the games off for us, not always remembering everything while going in fresh, talking at the same time and whatnot. You guys know those games in and out, have probably played them a few times even, so it is clear that you know what to look out for. And it's not like that this small pink circle is flashing like crazy, its slowly shrinking and that's it - so if he had forgotten about the mechanic, he could have easily overlooked that. And that's what happened - clearly - Brad is now awful at games!

I fully admit that it's hard to judge from the perspective of knowing a game inside and out and watching someone who doesn't.

But my claim isn't limited to ICO and SOTC, I see this kind of thing regularly in Quicklooks, and I have never played most of the games they show. Like I said, it's not about knowing a particular game very well, it's about having a keen intuitive sense about how games, in general, work. This sense is built through experience, and they definitely have experience.

it's like the only hud element that isn't items or health

it could only possibly be grip

it is the central mechanic in the game

I can see that, yeah. Still, most of the responses feel disdainful for the wrong reason.

Apples to apples, please.

It just makes for very frustrating viewing. I think this is the second time I've complained about it, the first being Zelda which was insane. It's not disdain, it's just expressing what I and others thought of the video. If you don't like reading criticism, I recommend you never come to NeoGAF again.
