Well sure, time is always a consideration, but after the 900th joke about my skills, I'd feel inclined to make some sort of change.

Then again, I'm sure he probably could give a shit less, which is admirable in of itself in spite of making the videos occasionally painful.
 
Brad reviewed this game in 2005. Six years ago. He (presumably) beat every Colossus. How can anyone say it's believable that he missed the point of the blinking pink circle that goes "BLUNK BLUNK BLUNK" when you're about to lose your grip? Even if their TV was muted, how did he not think "no pink = I fall", something I picked up in 2 minutes my first time playing, in a game he reviewed? Some of you seriously think that's understandable?

Mind blowing.
 
He doesn't know if Ico and SotC are in the same world, he doesn't know if the horns on Ico are a helmet, he thinks the only story in SotC is from the voice...

I don't think it's that wild to assume no, he has never finished SotC.

I think I got stuck on one of the later Colossi and never went back to it for some reason. I cannot wait to play it again.

You're right yeah, sorry about that. I assure you beyond significant inferences that spoiled nothing, but I tagged it in case.
 
Brad is not bad at video games. At least, not in general. He's just EXTREMELY SLOW to get into a game. Once he does click with a game, he gets really damned good at it. This is the only way I can reconcile his terrible quick look performances with the fact that he actually plays really well on games he knows on TNTs and such.

He's like a heavy character in Mario Kart - terrible acceleration, high top speed.
 
man, thanks to the comments in this thread, I spent the entire SOTC quick look just fixated on that fucking pink grip circle. all I could see is that circle getting smaller and smaller as he gripped. I barely saw anything else.

This is killing me. Brad’s comments near the end that he can’t believe why he keeps getting thrown off the colossus are pretty funny.

Brad reviewed SOTC for GS. he just forgot practically everything about the mechanics in the years in between.

I'm sure part of Brad's performance in Quick Looks has to do with the fact that it's going to to be viewed by thousands of people who will be sure to judge. I'm sure I'd be nervous doing what he does a lot of the time.

However, that does not excuse him from not knowing about the most important gameplay mechanic in SotC.

Not only did he (according to him) finish both games, he also reviewed SotC for GameSpot. I haven't played this game since launch, and I remembered the grip meter because it's the main mechanic of the game. It's literally the equivalent of forgetting that Gears of War has a cover system.

Could be, I finished the game without knowing that I could upgrade my health and my grip meter..

I had to play the game again this year infront of a class and the last time I played it was shortly after the launch. Let me tell you, it didn't go so well and I really had to think again about how the mechanics worked and such. I really was struggling with it.

It was frustrating and also funny to watch, just hearing what they thought what the problem was and what they had to do :)

I still can't believe it.

Me and Shadow of the Colossus = Huuuuge story behind it which led to me having so much passion for this game. It ended up being my precious for literally 2 years (to the point where I barely played anything else than SotC). All the SotC-communities I was active in. Reached probably over 10 sites which I fully active in. Finding the 17th colossi because I had no Internet whatsoever the first two weeks... finding the
secret garden.
without tricks... all the lizards and fruits... competing with the best Japanese speed-runners in the world at speedrunning the colossi... showing the game of to probably over 20+ buddies of mine... setting up huge ass projectors in school to show this game to teachers and students and explaining why Ueda is such a great inspiring man... Drawing my own colossi at school and work. Covering my whole room with huge colossus-posters... etc.

Holy hell, it's been one helluva right. Can't believe it's finally here.

Brad played the game once for a review and then never played it again.

It has been 6 years. Forgetting about a game mechanic for a person who goes through 3 different games a week should not be astonishing.

Not a game mechanic, the game mechanic. Climbing and gripping things is what you do for about 2/3 of the game. I literally cannot fathom forgetting something that important in a game he remembers fondly. And even if he did, not intuiting an obvious mechanic after two deaths when your job is reviewing games? How does that happen?
 
Are they 60fps in 3D too?

I've played them on PSP, and almost certainly won't be buying them again, but that bonus feature talk looked pretty interesting. I've not heard anything publicly of Cory since Ryan Payton interviewed him just before he bailed. I'm really eager to see his new game, GoW2 is pretty amazing.

That's not really the same though. I mean, maybe it's different with you, but it's usually just bullshit banter when I play with friends...we're not actually trying to speak intelligently on a topic. I assume most of Brad's concentration was holding up his end of the discussion, not necessarily playing seriously. I could be wrong, but I'm just trying to rationalize what I saw here. :\

I remember liking the game but I've forgotten most of it and I haven't replayed it. That's what happens after 6 years, you just forget stuff, and for Brad it's a lot harder because he has to go through a large amount of games.

Anyways I can't believe this has created so much discussion and that people care this much.

I can't even tell you who I was fucking/dating in 2005 let alone what part of a game's UI is for.

People in this thread always make me regret entering.

Do you think you could see that a UI element exists, though? And figure out how its changes relate to your actions in the game? Maybe showing a hint of curiosity about how the game works while you're playing it?

It looks like a radar, could easily have thought it was applying to that. Not to mention being harder to remember/notice/figure out while talking about the game. The curiosity for this game is how it looks/performs now not if Brad remember how it works.

Jokes aside, it does misrepresent the game and could affect potential purchases for some people, they should put a note on the video saying he was mistaken about it.

I suffer from the Brad syndrome myself. It's not a matter of doing multiple things at once (playing a game while maintaining a conversation), it's a matter of trying to gage and cleanly meet expectations relating to both the game and the conversation. It depends on the type of person you are, not on your »gaming« or conversational skills. You can't let yourself be completely immersed by what's caught your attention -- but that's a prerequisite for people like us to stay true to ourselves.

The second PSP game looks great, seriously great. The first, GOW psp title looks alright, but you can clearly tell it's an up res'd psp game majority of the time.

The thing that is kinda hilarious, is how Brad gushes about how amazing the game (SOTC) is to play once again, and by the end he says "I forgot how fucking frustrating this game is". :/

What the fuck kind of comparison is that!? SotC has, at most, 4 UI items. Four. 1, 2, 3, Four. Health meters for wander and any colossus you're engaging, your currently equipped weapon and, here comes, the grip meter. You're telling me you'd never ask yourself what the curious circle is for? The one that decreases as you hang on for dear life on a giant, living statue?
