That Dark Souls QL was great, they showed the game in the best way possible.
I kinda reminds me of Gothic for a strange reason, especially the extremely methodic combat - but unlike in Gothic, the combat system in Souls is actually really good.

Question: I haven't really looked at these games past the two quick looks, do you spend the entire game in dungeons and castles or is there some variety to the environments/color palletes?

The environments are very varied. There are
dark forests, disgusting swamps, sewers, demonic shrines, other castled that are very different aesthetically, snow ruins. Its not just in the same castle.

I can't fucking listen to Rorie, he's got mad A.D.D. and never finishes a thought.

"So that's my item that I've got, I've got Twin Humanities, let's go ahead and use that. I've got two Humanity level; Humanity level is - I don't think - I - it obviously has a lot of interplay with - uh - just let me get out of here real quick - let me put my armor back on..."

And then the explanation of whatever Humanity is is just gone. Poof!

I am not sure if he really knows what Humanity is.

I thought it was one of the best Quicklooks they have ever done, personally.

This is definitely true, which is kind of sad considering it makes him sound a lot dumber than he really is. Also, his obsession with dogs is to the point of being very creepy. I mean he has a Puppies I've Pet blog....just fucking weird. I seriously think Will is afraid that Rorie is going to rape his dog. I would be worried if it was my dog. Other than that though, Rorie is cool haha

After watching Dark Souls quicklook and playing 12 hours of Demons's Souls I realize I just shouldn't bother trying this one. Glad some people like it but I'm not sure there is a single aspect I enjoy about it beyond that it isn't stupid easy.

Yeah I never played Demon's Souls but I've always thought I wouldn't like it and watching that didn't change my mind. I'd get very frustrated with having to repeat large sections.

Dark Souls quick look was fantastic. The sudden deaths were the best part lmao. Have zero experience with the "Souls" games, but Dark Souls looks really cool. Probably going to pick it up sometime over the holidays.

This is the first time I see a Dark Souls in action. Yeah, this game is soooo bought. This is one of the best QL they ever made. Super informative, exciting, funny, and totally sold me on the game.
Despite the fact that I sat in the room with the developers and they showed me the game that did not convince me to buy it.
But after the QL from GiantBomb I have bouth the game on amazon.uk well done GB it was one of the BEST QL ever made.
Indeed informative and funny.
Maybe not the best in terms of funny like story-hour was but very very well done, in terms of selling me on the game.

Dark Souls quick look was a lot of fun. good trio of guys to have in there. it was more informative than the demon’s souls quick look and it made it very clear to me that this is not the kind of game I can get into. requires too much constant vigilance and concentration. I need to unwind when I play games. especially if I’m playing for more than an hour at a time. the risk of losing souls if you fuck up two times is too much for me to bear.

I don’t get it when people say “the game isn’t hard. it just requires you to pay attention all the time and never make a mistake because it will punish you.”

… that’s hard. that’s what hard is.

People are just used to this generations "hard" which means bullshit deaths and QTEs.

I think people mean it's not hard in the sense that you don't need amazingly quick reflexes to get through the game. While the game will punish you for mistakes, the oppurtunities to make mistakes are fairly far between.

fuckin impossible to get into the Trackmania 2 server in time for the TNT D: only one i wanted to play in a long time
Yep. I've been trying for an hour and the server was already full all the time.

Jeff will probably reset the server to allow new people to get in.

I dunno, that thing where he ran on the bridge and got smoked by a dragon and had to repeat like 15 minutes was pretty bullshit. I'd probably turn the game off if that happened to me.

good points. I have just found that mental toughness and the ability to maintain focus and discipline should always be considered hard.

finger dexterity is the easy part

Joke post?

Nevermind, read your post above this one. Sorry for your loss.

And 15 minutes is nothing in reality.

Rorie had a pretty severe speech impediment when he was younger (listen to him in the Gamespot days). He's much, much better now, he just sounds a little more scatterbrained these days. As someone who went through years of speech therapy when I was younger I have sympathy.

Watched about 5 minutes of the quicklook and the graphics look much improved. I also like the inventory system more, along with the entire UI. Very slick. The wait is unbearable.

Got to the TM2 server three and a half hours early for TNT, played the whole time.

Then Jeff kicks me because the server's full and he needs a spot.

It's a hard.

One that was for whatever reason in danger, until a strong champion emerged to defend it.

Too bad Amazon is seemingly out of copies of the Collector's Edition that comes with the strategy guide; seems like a lot of new players are getting interested who could probably really use it if this is their experience with the series.

It doesn't come with an actual strategy guide. It's just a few pages I think.

The Demon's Souls guide sucked. It had lots of information but little context. I used the wiki for everything.

If it's not very big, why cut corners making it a download? That sucks if true.

Yeah, but with the new wiki still in the process of being built, it's better than nothing for people new to the concepts.

And as for Rorie's stammering: he's playing Dark Souls and justifiably distracted. I didn't think it was that bad, but a lot of what people complain about on this thread doesn't bother me as much as it seems to some others.

I have to agree with other posters here. I had no intention of getting Dark Souls (wasn't even on my radar) until the quicklook. Definitely gonna pick it up next week.

The wikis will be much better than the downloadable guide. This CE is cheap out BS. It comes with a tin sleeve over the standard game and a tiny "art book". Also Futurepress has a 400 pg hardcover guide for $25 if that's you're thing, they make the best guides this gen.
