When I saw you all talking about giant picture filled |OT|'s in this thread I was hoping I missed a video

Quicklook: A Neogaf |OT| (Vinny/Patrick 34:25)
An Endurance Run would be more appropriate, I think.

One of the best OT's was the one crushed made for Fallout 3. Thing was just beautiful, man.
That wasn't him, that was... who was that?

aahahahha

I swear someone else did the same thing a couple years later, but by that time GAF had become infested with even more humorless killjoys who spent the entire thread going, "wtf!!! this isn't the real op... lock this and ban this troll. can we get a mod mayhaps???"

Some dude made a fake MW2 OT but it got locked and he got banned for saying 'fag', ahahaha

Does anyone know what happened? He had the restrained demeanor of a moderator hopeful.

Probably for trolling the rage reviews thread before the game was even released. Anyone who gave it a sub9/10 review was either corrupt, mentally ill, or an idiot off his posts.

The Bayonetta OT is the best.

i love it when you read locked threads with banned people and future mods are in there talking about how awesome it is and how the dudes are right

Evilore still made the DA and DA2 threads pretty jokey, too.
Whoever recently did the X-Men: Destiny thread got a laugh from me. DS focus in the first post with "Oh yeah, it's coming out on PS3, 360, etc." in the second post.

I don't like huge OTs, but I guess some people enjoy making them and other people enjoy praising them and then never reading them.

I haven't laughed this hard in a while. My stomach hurts!

Me too, I could not stop laughing. It seemed as though Jeff did not want to be there and his Kinect recordings were hilariously epic. I wish I had them for my voicemail...

Hah, the Multiplayer Quicklook had some great battlefield moments. I hope they do check out the PC version though. Although I reckon we'll see it on TNT.

That campaign almost makes the Medal of Honor reboot look good. Aside from the sound and some of the visuals, it was total shit. Worse it looked boring as hella.

If you're going to script your game to that extent, why even include the player? Cut out the middle man and just make a movie. It also looks ridiculously easy even on normal, so I can't imagine ever being threatened if you were on actual easy.

Hahaha holy shit, the video gets really good once they get into the actual BF3 mode...multiplayer. Especially the jet section lol

Everything looked so boring until they got into that match. From the beginning Battlefield has been about hey, dumb shit is gonna happen. Why do they seem so intent to make it look like every other game available?

Jeff complaining about BF3 getting great scores despite reviewers shitting on the campaign is irritating given how he openly wrote off the multiplayer in GTA4/MGS4 and still spoke very highly of them.

How dare he wrote off MGO.

Well... because Call of Duty keeps selling more every year? EA sees that and keeps trying to replicate the formula

The point isn't that he wrote it off, it's that he seems to take offense to his peers doing the same with the BF3 campaign.

That's the reverse, though. That's Jeff writing off multiplayer modes in favor of singleplayer, which is understandable - you hear guys like Epic say that more than half the people who play Unreal Tournament 2004 played the game offline with bots, and for as big of a draw as multiplayer undoubtedly has, a game's singleplayer mode is what is "for everyone".

With Battlefield 3, Jeff's issue seems to be that everybody's ignoring that the singleplayer is lackluster and is scoring the game almost exclusively as a multiplayer game.

That's understandable to me. In a game with singleplayer, multiplayer is meant to be icing on the cake. Singleplayer should technically be the main draw in a game like that, the one thing everybody can play because it does not require friends present or an active internet connection. If the singleplayer is good, the quality of the multiplayer almost kind of doesn't matter. But that scenario does not exist in reverse - bad singleplayer and good multiplayer just means you shouldn't have even bothered with the singleplayer at all.

After all, it's not like Battlefield 2 had singleplayer, and Jeff professes his love for that right in the QL.

I disagree, not making the BF3 single player would have just meant less people care about it. It's not as if it'd help multiplayer, in fact that's another thing Jeff discussed with regards to Uncharted 3, again in reverse though. I think he'd have a point if reviews didn't mention not liking the single player, and just gave the game a great score, but if they seemingly didn't factor the single player into the multiplayer, in the same way Jeff doesn't factor in the multiplayer when discussing the quality of GTA4/MGS4, I don't see the problem. If it was the best multiplayer game ever, and worth $60 for that alone, and without the single player it'd still be a ten, I don't think marking it down because of a lackluster campaign you never have to touch is also on the disc. It's like giving MGS3 Subsistence a 6 because it includes MG1 which was crap.

Either whole sections of a product can be ignored, or they can't. I don't think there's a logical middle ground.

On consoles it's more expected to have a 'substantial' single player portion to a retail game. Additionally, all of the promotional material for BF3 seems to focus on the single player - obviously because that's where the flash is, but it makes it seem like there is a proper single player game there. So I think it's totally fair to slag it off in a review for having a lackluster single player.

That's completely besides the point though.

This is consistent if he values Campaign over Multi, no?

There is a difference to be drawn between "writing off" and something "being bad." It's easier to write off a multiplayer experience because it frequently takes many, many days and hours of playtime in order to form an accurate critique of the game modes, and a lot of your enjoyment of online games stems from being a part of a community, playing with friends, etc. which reviewers don't get to participate in often, if at all.

That said, reviewers write-off multiplayer for some games but that doesn't mean the multiplayer is bad, like in the case of GTA 4. The single-player campaign parts get the most good/bad attention because it's easy to play through and critique.

Aww man, 360. Lame. Is any giantbomb staff read this, are you going to only review the 360 version?

They said PC unlocks at midnight, so presumably they were looking over all versions.

They have a PC key, it just doesn't unlock until midnight (not sure when they recorded this, but they've probably installed the game already). It's one of the very first things they say. I would assume that they will review the PC version (as well).

To me what's hypocritical is billing yourself as a CoD killer, but then having a shit campaign.
Where did they bill themselves as a CoD killer?

And I tend to believe people should review what's there, not what they thought should be there.
