I've actually travelled First Great Western a fair bit, thus making Sky Train all the weirder for me. :lol

Yep so have I, I love the Intercity 125, I've been on those very same routes albeit on the actual rails lol

I wish there was a Paddington to Penzance route or vice versa.

I know Vinny is colorblind, but something happened in this quicklook that always intrigued me, and I never knew anybody colorbrind to ask.

Vinny couldn't tell the people on the Stations were zombies, because he couldn't tell they were green.

Now, he couldn't see they were green or everybody looks green to him, because that's how he always saw them?

Do leaves look flesh tone to him? Or are people green?

I know that to him they all have the same color - I understand that. I just wonder which color is that.

A colorblind friend of mine in high school said he saw everyone's flesh as a tone of green.

How would he know?

Unless he said something along the lines of "people's skin look more Blue than Yellow", he can't answer that.

Let's say I show you a white-skinned-coloured leave and say: this is Green. Everybody would be "green" to you. But you would actually see the flesh color.

Yeah, this is a "the color you see is the same color as I see?" question, but it always haunted me.

I'm colorblind and I couldn't really tell they were green. The further I get from kindergarten and learning colors the less I rely on them in general. I just read labels and stuff instead now, but I used to be pretty good at telling colors apart.

In real life though, people's skin tones don't look green to me.

Edit:

Check out this link. The pictures on the left are more or less how I see things, I'd say. Shit's just a lot less vivid to me.

I always enjoy their Quick Looks, but this Trains vs. Zombies one was hilarious.

Only downside was the crappy video quality. I have no issue with them switching to Youtube to save bandwidth and they can keep the HD version exclusive to their subscribers, but can they really not upload these in 480p at least?

They didn't record them in 480p. All their content was done in 360p. They would have to go back and re-encode every single video at 480p to do this. I don't think they realized how shitty Youtube's 360p encoding is.

Both Jeff and Vinny are Red-Green, which I think means they can't distinguish between the two. For them, looks like they both look like shades of yellow. very interesting.
They probably are like me and suffer from Protonopia (or a mild case) where the spectrum is less red-sensitive. This causes a lot of colors to be shifted and hard to distinguish.

Red-green colorblind doesn't mean you can't distinguish between red & green

Here are some high points from the last few Giantbomb Kinect Quicklooks they made (Michael Phelps: Push The Limit, Wipeout 2, Hulk Hogan's Main Event) before the YouTube switch

Less cost to them and ad revenue I believe.
Well Youtube is explicit regarding not allowing monetization on videos of other people's games, no matter how much commentary/footage of yourself you add. However some have gotten away with it, we'll see if GiantBomb does as well.

I've always said that the way to attract people to sub is not through different quality video, but more awesome original content. When every place out there (even kids casting from their own PCs) put out HD (or close-to) content I think it works in detriment to the site not to have it for free. I am a freeloader tho, and love those guys, so I guess I have no place to complain when I don't know their costs associated with it.

So, yay! new QL.
Yeah I agree that if Youtube is handling the hosting they might as well upload the 720p videos.

If this is true, youtube doesn't enforce this at all. Check out Day9, TotalBiscuit... really, anyone who commentates videogame footage and they all have ads. I think the most youtube will do is pull game footage at a developer's request. They aren't stopping anyone from making money here.

720p is a subscriber perk. If you don't think the site is worth $50 a year, you shouldn't care about the relative quality level of the quicklooks.

This is not true whatsoever. There are a lot of people making Youtube money on Call of Duty gameplay. Wings of Redemption says he makes so much money on his video game videos, he doesn't even need a "real" job and can live comfortably. WoodysGamertag and El Presador also make tons of cash on Call of Duty videos. WoodysGamertag is also about to quit his real life programming job because of all the Youtube cash he makes.

Video game companies don't care because it's all publicity. Just don't upload their crap before street date and none of them care. The only incident I can ever think of this was Rockstar not playing nice with Red Dead Redemption footage for whatever reason for the first week. The thing is though, you have to show Youtube you have proof. But all the big Call of Duty commentators on Youtube have contracts with Machinima, and Machinima does all the permission work for them.

Hell, you can even make money on Justin TV/Twitch TV streaming yourself playing video games.

It's probably more that Youtube has explicit rules on actually being entertaining. Anybody can talk over a videogame, but being entertaining at it is a completely different story.

if DSP and all the fighting game streams can get away with posting thousands of hours of gaming video to Youtube I'm sure GB will be fine.

Ah, my mistake then. I just assumed the old video player content was in 480p because it looked so much better.

Yeah, GB's 360p was a much higher bitrate than Youtube's. GB's 360p was 1500kbps. YT's 360p is only 800kbps.

1500kbps is only for the "High" option. "Low" is 700kbps. Despite this, though, Youtube's 800kbps still looks slightly worse than GiantBomb's 700 (though not enough to really be a big deal).

The sky-train was amazing. That couldn't have been anymore perfect.

The High option was still available on the free site earlier, no? I've been a subscriber for a while, so I've forgotten, haha.

Either way, can you not upload a 360p video to YouTube and tell it to put it out at 480p? I've seen a lot of videos on there have the 720p option, but were obviously sub that. Like, by a lot. Or do you have to trick YT into letting you do that by re-encoding the video beforehand into a fake 720p in a different program beforehand?

My father discovered he was colorblind when he drew a picture of his father with crayons in elementary school and was constantly giving him green hair.

So is the game actually that dark or is it the Youtube compression making the game look worse?
Whenever they went to the plane following the train view I couldn't see the train or tracks at all.

Okay, so maybe I'm behind on this, but is there a particular reason why every video loads so slow? =(

I haven't kept up with GB related stuff lately, so apologies

oh shit, SKY TRAIN! Damn, what an awesome finish to the Train QL. That was killing me. Nice camera angles Vinny. XD

The image quality on this Goldeneye Quick Look in HD is fucking atrocious. There's pretty much no point in watching it in HD over High when it looks like this.

I actually really like Train Simulator (one of the better Steam sale gambles I've made) but that DLC... didn't look very good at all. Still made for one of the most hilarious QL endings ever, though.

Just saw the Train Simulator QL and at the end I couldn't stop laughing. I find that the best quick looks are of ridiculous games.

Those examples are crazy. It's hard to comprehend how the world would look as a color blind person. It seems like everything would look so dreary.
