Can't even get the Youtube 480p option for the videos :(

GB never encoded their stuff at 480p.

But based on some of the issues with youtube 360p quality, they may want to start.

Wish these guys knew a little bit more about the game or at least had Seth come on with them to help with game mechanics.

The Phoenix Wright stuff was really bad. I'm guessing they hadn't seen any footage prior to playing because his mechanics are laid out nicely in most of the videos that were released at his reveal.

I'm slightly red-green colorblind myself, but I might have been able to make out that the zombies were green if it weren't for the compression there. As is, I had to rely on Ryan as much as Vinny did to tell if they were green.

I'm sure i heard that Ryan mocked the contrast in that game during the quick look, so it's probably not their fault it's so damn dark.

I look at this game now and goddamn...what is going on? Phoenix Wright looked impenetrable to understand.
Well, even on this page guys are saying it's super easy to understand if you watched all the reveal videos.
But yeah, that's the fighting games - steep learning curve i guess.

It's not hard. Think of it in terms of his games. You investigate, then you go to court, then you get all awesome and there's a "turnabout".

Actually, let me get Maximilian's video on the subject.

Caution: terrible acting ahoy.

I sent a tweet to Jeff saying I felt the 360p Youtube videos made me sad.

He responded with this:

Did our 360p videos also make you kind of sad? Same resolution we've always used for that stuff.

It seems they aren't aware of the significant downgrade in quality Youtube's 360p is compared to their's.

Am I imagining this or has the audio quality of the Quick Looks been dramatically reduced? It's not just the relatively low volume. Even with that cranked up, the dynamic range is so small that it's sometimes difficult to understand people.

Here's a comparison between the old "High" quality 360p video and the YouTube 360p video.

"High" flash player, in streaming mode:

It's pretty easy. He's got a metagame going on top of the rest of the game which isn't actually explained in-game.

holy shit. that’s awful.

the one comparison I made (stronghold 3) held up much better on YT. the shit bitrate on youtube is killing any fast motion scenes. yuck.

And that shot isn't even particularly fast-moving. I'm considering going back and finding a fast-moving one.

I also like how on the second shot you literally cannot tell that it's a Daily Bugle banner in the background, haha.

They're saving high quality vids for their subscribers I guess.

I wouldn't call 480p high quality, it should be the basic standard if they don't have to worry about bandwidth costs. Keep the HD videos for subscribers.

Other video game sites, IGN, Gamespot, Gamefronts, etc., all provide HD quality videos (720p+), on Youtube or on their own sites. Audiences/subscribers need to be gained by exclusive content, not the video quality. Just saying.

you can't even read the smaller text on the second screen and the pixilation is just horrible -.-

This x1000.

I seriously doubt any subscriber would give a shit if they enabled HD for everyone. If they did, they'd quit caring after a week.

It's literally so bad that the textures for the bricks on the right-hand building completely disappear and the balloons turn into blurry blobs..

+1

Seeing the GTA5 trailer on GiantBomb actually made me realize how weird it is that they aren't providing game trailers in HD, especially since the Youtube switch over.

Why the fuck would I watch GiantBomb's 360p Youtube upload of the GTA5 trailer when I could just type "GTA5 HD" in to Youtube search and get the same identical thing at a much higher level of quality? They're just mirroring an inferior version of a video already abundant on Youtube.

My issue with the UMvC3 QL barring YT quality, is that Jeff didn't show all the new characters. That's the hook for double-dipping. Wish Seth was there and made it an EX QL.

Yeah, absolutely. I'm a subscriber and in no way would I feel robbed or cheated when they made good video quality available to all people. It's just ridiculous to offer that stuff in 360p only.

Same. I mean, I can see them holding back 720p as a subscriber incentive (wasn't for me. Only recently this week started using it lol) but they should at least put 480p versions up on youtube now to make up for the horrible youtube encoding.

They should at least fix whatever compression issues they seem to have, because not every 360p video has to look this bad. I'd be fine with it otherwise.

720p on Youtube looks way worse than 720p on Giantbomb anyway. Just rename the format on Giantbomb to 720p+ or something and upload vids in 720p to Youtube.

Really interested in this one, as I have not seen anything of the game at all (no screens, no video, no... nothing). I think I remember a chat on some E3 podcast (Weekend Confirmed?), but that is it.

Have I just missed everything, or did the PR / Marketing people really drop the ball on this?

The community manager posts in the Gaf thread, some good information in there.

Rant incoming.

What the hell are they doing? They seem to be making dumb decisions left and right now. Have they even acknowledged the compression issues? You'd think it would be a quick easy fix and yet here we still are with the same fucking problem. When you have amatuers on YouTube doing a better job versus people being paid at GiantBomb, the problem becomes a joke. Now they're posting freely availabe HD trailers on YouTube in 360p with terrible compression issues - is this real life? I get the feeling that they've become complacent, you only need to see their sarcastic smart arse replies to people who even so much as offer a simple legitimate criticism for proof.

I have a feeling that this will end up with the whole quicklook volume issue we had last year. They kept denying that the volume in the quicklooks was getting lower and lower every months until it suddenly and magically went back to normal. Yet, afaik, they still deny that there ever was a problem.
