The GiantBomb Quick Look Thread

I see Postal III attempting to be offensive, and instead of saying "My goodness I'm completely shocked at these things happening in an interactive medium" like they intended, I'm saying "Aw that's cute, they think they're smart peoples".

I do look forward to reviews of it though, the thrashing will be astronomical.

IGN gives it a 5.5.
Apparently it's unapologetic about being crass, and that gives it a pass for being absolute garbage.
Nothing about it is below mediocre, he claims.
I'm actually mildly offended by this review.

Gamespy gets it right.

Postal 3 was painful to watch for that long. I can't imagine what it must have been like to play.

And that GFW conversation from 2008 blew my mind.

With the dingleberries of postal still caught in the corners of my eyes duke nukem is gonna look godly.

The Duke DLC actually isn't bad, better than the original game. (They were right about there being Duke clones, but they don't get that far) I thought their complaining seemed a bit overblown, like Ryan complaining about jumping puzzles after having to do two really easy jumps.

I'm assuming gearbox bought duke so they could do their own nonsense with it and were contractually obliged to put out DNF (I might even have read it somewhere). So it stands to reason that the stuff post-DNF would be better, hopefully it's at least adequate. Although I'm a still bit peeved Randy Pitchford pretended DNF was a worthwhile game when he was trying to sell it.

Shoulda kept it real Randy! where is your street cred now?? >:I

I don't get the complaints in the DNF DLC QL about 'jumping puzles' There were a few, very very easy jumps. Not precision platforming or trick jumps or courner jumps or anything, just very simple forward jumps.

Am I just awesome at games or something because I don't mind and even like jumps in my FPS games?

wtf how do miss that damn barrel for so long.

To be fair I missed it too while watching (and I usually catch on to these things and notice what to do). It was in a bad position. If it was infront of the door (the side you approach from) or behind the bars to the right then it would be much easier to spot.

Yeah I don't know. I thought the platforming-while-shrunk parts of DNF were the best parts of the game. I think it's become ingrained in the modern gaming psyche to complain about 'jump puzzles' in FPS's now, probably because of how difficult and poorly done they were in the past (like Turok 64.)

Also, DNF was WAY better than Postal 3 judging by that P3 quick look.

I never understood that complaint, either. the original Half-Life went a little overboard with them in the Xen areas, but this idea that jumping in FPS games is the most terrible thing in the world confuses me to no end.

Thanks, somehow I just switched videos and got the options in the top left corner of the video. So do we agree progressive is the best?

Yeah I don't like to use stream. Sometimes it gets fucked up and the video ends early. Happens more often with longer videos.

I use progressive unless I'm going back to a video I stopped watching earlier
Endurance Run rage quits ahoy
, in which case I'll probably switch to HTML5 to skip around.

I've used stream exclusively for a while now. Works just fine, I always watch their longer videos in parts so it's nice and I don't have to wait for a download.

Sometimes they feel like idiots, I'm sure I could have done the same though but if they had paid attention they would have noticed the game told them how to fire when near that door. It didn't do that for nothing, you know.

It was still terrible design, I feel.

WTF how do you ragequit in Chrono Trigger? How do you even get put into that situation? Are these dudes actually humanoid mech suits piloted by children?

It looks like the NFL really neutered this game, unfortunately. It seems like it really hurt the game and it's stupid that they meddled with it. I think I would rather just play a port of Blitz 64 or something over the new one.

They shouldn't have used the NFL licence if they were tampering with it so much.

Yep, the game just isn#t crazy enough. I think EA did a way better job when it comes to NBA Jam.

It's kind of sad how they just absolutely refuse to have any fun with Duke Nukem whatsoever. Also, It's sad they are playing on an Xbox, with a two weapon limit.

That's good to hear about it. I'm actually looking forward to an eventual sale of the DLC. I had a fun time with the first game after buying it for $5.

I've also never understood their absolute hate of jumping puzzles in FPS games. God forbid you come across something that isn't "RUN AND SHOOT". In fact, the best level in DNF was nothing but a jumping puzzle (Duke Burger) with combat mixed in.

I think that's probably understandable since, well, Duke isn't fun anymore.

Except, well, it was fun when I played it on PC.

Neutered it by taking out late hits? While sad, it doesn't change the fact that it looks exactly like how I remember it looking on the N64. It sounds like they just changed the stuff that higher level players were exploiting (completely invulnerable spin, jump-passing to avoid sacks, diving to take out recievers on the line) that made play miserable for people who just wanted to play a game of Blitz.

I guess I'm biased though, as I'm going to pick this up once I get a PSN points card. I've been looking for a football game that doesn't require me to know shit like what a Tampa 2 defense is.
