The Great Porn Experiment (TEDxGlasgow)

Feh, just get female porn consumption to 100% as well. Balance it all out.

This is another of those non-chemical addiction things, or at least only partially chemical. I relied exclusively on porn, sometimes pretty extreme stuff (not illegal) and I am doing just fine with the ladies now, and I didn't even have to try.

This is flat out wrong.

Dopamine is commonly associated with the reward system of the brain, providing feelings of enjoyment and reinforcement to motivate a person to perform certain activities. Dopamine is released (particularly in areas such as the nucleus accumbens and prefrontal cortex) by rewarding experiences such as food, sex, drugs, and neutral stimuli that become associated with them.[28] Recent studies indicate that aggression may also stimulate the release of dopamine in this way.[29]
Wiki

The neurochemical dopamine is the central player in all addictions. Dopamine is at the heart of porn addiction.Dopamine will be in every article on addiction, reward, motivation, or learning. Dopamine dysregulation is at the heart of porn addiction, cravings and withdrawal symptoms. Restoring normal dopamine function and sensitivity is a key to porn recovery.

http://yourbrainonporn.com/garys-research-dopamine-and-addiction

It is the definition of a chemical addiction. The point here is the massive level of novelty leads to an incredibly high level of dopamine release which leads to a desire to repeat that behavior to receive the immense reward. If you've ever looked at porn after a couple days of no use, your first orgasm is most likely going to be quite powerful and pleasurable. Your next orgasm will be less sensitive and rewarding. Depending on your level of addiction, you may begin to seek out more novel forms of pornography more frequently to get the same high you had the first time.

This qualifies it as a super-stimulus which, just like addiction to actual drugs, has effects on normative brain functioning.

I have a girlfriend and fap every single day, so you're good, I'm not.

I'm a porn addict and now some types of porn do no satisfy me. I'm not looking at crazy shit online though but I mean stuff like interracial, voyeur, natural boobs,
ass-licking
among other things. I really need to lay off...

I once saw my now ex-girlfriend's online history and I saw that she was looking at porn. I got the biggest boner I've ever had. It felt like my dick was about to burst with just knowing that my now ex was looking at porn. WTF?

Ewww... natural boobs.

I had this prude gf once. I was surfing the net on her laptop while she sat beside me. I opened google and her search history contained all kinds of pornographic search commands. I grinned.

I don't know if any of that is true, but I've come to realize like within the past 5 years, I've been struggling to play video games because of masturbation.

When I have free time, I'll be like, "Do I want to play video games or do I want to masturbate? Video games or masturbation? Video games or masturbation? Video games or masturbation?", and 7½ times out of 10, I'll go with masturbation, which can take any where from 45 minutes to an hour, so by the time I'm done, I'm too tired to play games and then either I watch a movie or go to bed if it's late.

It's really annoying if I'm in the middle of an RPG or some other heavy story-driven game because sometimes I won't get back to playing the game for weeks or months even and when I do get back to it, I've forgotten most plot and don't know what the fuck is going on. "Dragon Slash? When did I get this move?"

That video has inspired me to try quitting for 90 days, starting tomorrow.

Damn, I'm usually done in 10 minutes lol

Well...what I meant was huge natural boobs, you know, really really really big ones, mostly found in BBW (oh that's another category!)

Congratulations. But you will fail. You will fail and binge.

Prepare to fail - a few times. No one does is straight through first shot. You must push through though.

Your best weapon is to research, knowledge is truly power and it will help you along the way.

I don't get it. They're both time wasters, so you should do whichever is more entertaining. It's not like you're losing work time or sleep time due to fap.

And honestly, pf, RPGs. I'd much rather check out what my good ol' Kagney Lynn Karter has been up to than playing more Mass Effect 2.

How did you guys quit? I'm pretty much addicted i use porn at least once a day. I can go a day without it for a day at most but then I'm back at it. Just had a good stretch where i was on a trip for 5 days and didn't get any alone time. But yeah. It's tough.

You aren't addicted to anything. You're just horny.

Don't listen to this guy. Do your research and come to your own conclusion.

Im adamant about this because its important. If you have a problem it WILL affect your real world love life and it is something you can manage.

No orgasms for 60-90 days to reset? Nocturnal emissions won't allow it, and I sure as heck won't be wearing a chastity belt. 'Tho I agree with cutting down the fap intake and the benefits of it, I personally think that I have watched all the porn I was meant to for a lifetime so I'm willing to embark on this doomed venture, for a change.

I might get in the next "Contest" if GAF is still holding those.

The universe is challenging us with this news and I'm up for it. Where is Costanza?

That video has inspired me to try quitting porn for 90 days, starting tomorrow.

Woo! Let's-

AFAIK "Contest" aren't allowed. But what if we held our own Great Porn Experiment?

Damn. So what's the reason again? I remember seeing a thread last year, but it just disappeared.

Do you really need to quit sex for this to take affect? I quit porn about 6-8 months ago and noticed a definite improvement in the bedroom, but never really stopped having sex aside from maybe a 7-10 day span (which included no porn or masturbation). Probably was at least 2 weeks now that I think about it. Previously had been masturbating at least 5-7 times a week (usually once a day) for probably 10 years.

Let me rephrase.

What are the benefits if you're not an awkward teenager?
Unhooking yourself from the dopamine? I don't know, why don't you try and see how long you can last without checking up on Kagney? As you said.

Google not liking that kind of talk, I'll PM a mod about a TGPE thread instead.

Everyone is different but extreme cases normally require no sex at all.

Interesting to note: people under the age of 40 going to see their doctors for erectile dysfunction problems are on the rise. People think their dick is broken but really its just a porn addiction.

During my height of porn usage it would take me 30-45 minutes to finish from a girl giving me a blowjob. That's just absurd, and that's when I realized something is wrong.

There is definitely an 'addiction' element to it. Porn stimulates, chemicals flow. Do it for long enough (say, every other day since 1996) and you get dependence.

Luckily there is a cure to this. It's called 'moving in with your girlfriend'. No alone time.

Some people get so addicted to porn/masturbation they neglect their partners.

Is it reversible by not watching porn?

Also do you need to quit masturbating? Or is that a separate issue?
Its mostly the porn but the quickest and most sure path to recovery is no PMO (porn, masturbation, orgasm) for 60-90 days.

Its a hard road, very very hard. Not sure if pun intended.

Quitting shouldn't be the goal. But I assume this is a step in being able to do it less frequently. Basically when the situation becomes like this:

Alright, thanks mayne.

Recover from what?

I don't get it. The OP is about porn addiction, but you seem to be talking about another issue entirely. Unless porn addiction requires months of celibacy (instead of just... not watching porn?) to beat.

Didn't regular masturbation result in a pretty big decrease in risk of prostrate cancer?
It's difficult to figure out. There is the mixup of "masturbation" and "sexual activity" across different studies, sexual activity increasing risk of STIs which greatly increase cancer risk, the factor of higher hormone levels (which can affect cancer risk) resulting in frequency of masturbation causing a correlation but not demonstrating causation. A lot of factors to control for and a long observation period mean it's very difficult to come to a conclusion about frequency of masturbation causing an increase or decrease of risk.

For people who quit for the recommended period of 90 days the results are pretty much unanimous. People are reporting increased confidence, elevated mood, increased drive, reduction or elimination of social anxiety and depression, and increased desire for real connection to women. A vast majority of these people report the decision to stop masturbating to porn as "life changing". Many decide they will never use it again.

It largely depends on how much you use pornography and masturbate. If you are a frequent user, you could expect the benefits to be potentially quite dramatic. If you rarely use pornography, you still may find quite a few benefits. It is up to each individual whether they are willing to test it out for themselves.

Can you cite this study, please? Where is your evidence for this?

Cliff notes version:

90 days without:
porn
porn fantasy (basically, stop visually imagining sex. This is the hardest part)
masturbation
orgasm*

*This includes orgasms given to you by a partner. If you have one, they'll need to be super understanding and caring.**

If at any point in time you absolutely must, must, must, must masturbate, you do it without fantasy, focusing only on the sensations the act produces, and you do it softly and slowly.

You're re-wiring the brain to move away from craving>gratification processes. It's a 'detox'.

Benefits:
erections that could slay zeus and his daughters
the tamest porn - the stuff that blew your mind when you were 13 - will start being exciting once again
an increase in testosterone levels, leading to walk through life with 367% more swag, leading to more people thinking you look the business
**Bonus for if you have a partner: at the end of the process, you will have the forearm and tongue of a Greater Chimera

Afterwards, you can return to looking at porn but in moderation. Better to just get a girlfriend and have sex.

First off I don't think I could go 90 days. I went 15 days and took me like 3 seconds to bat one off and it wasn't a great erection either. I had no control over it like I do now. I can basically go as long as I need then have a 30 second lead up and bam. Also, the tamest porn thing was true by then as well.

My brain works differently. Some days I can be into the tamest stuff ever, the next day the hardest stuff ever. It changes and the only stuff I lose interest in is boring shit. It gets dull seeing a buff guy plow a typical pornstar the same way 50 times. I also have a hard separation between porn and real world sex. They don't seem the same at ALL to me.

Des0lar

will learn eventually
I have completely given up hard-core. I'm only watching still pictures now, stuff that would be in Playboy. It's taking me longer than ever to fap, but it's worth it.

My orgasms feel better than ever. Totally worth it.

I urge everyone to do it as well.

Yeah, I think I realised I had a problem when I looked at hentai that really conflicted with my real life attitude and feelings.
Why must you include fucking violence in my hentai?? Though I blame early age tentacle exposure for my elongated oblivion to the amount of violence in those, it's so common in monster hentai.

I have seen things where the only question would be "Why?". Guess someone went into the rabbit whole a bit too far.

This study makes sense. And I think this can happen even to people that simply don't have partners for a long time (years), it's not mandatory to be porn addicted.
