The Great RPG Crush of 08

How else would you control Evil Cat?

I don't think there's a specific date yet, just Q4 2008.

OK cool. I'll post the date as it's announced. I really need to get around to playing NWN2. Bought it on release, and it was so fucking buggy at the time I quit playing and never picked it back up.

As long as you're updating, you can switch Fable 2 to 10/21.

It's still pretty crunched in against Fallout, imo, but at least they noticed.

All of these on day 1? Maybe I just play games differently, but it doesn't really make sense to me to have a game sitting around in shrink wrap until you can play it, especially if by the time you get to it it'll probably have gone down a fair bit in price. Unless, of course, you plan on some non-stop RPGing, which, if a bit insane, is at least logical.

Some of these games (not all) could become very hard to find. Then again, I think im going to throw caution to the wind and just wait on a few as well. Persona 4 is a definiate day one though. Maybe Disgaea 3... then again Disgaea 2 and the D1 ports arent really hard to find.

P4, P4, P4, P4, P4 viva la PS2!

Pretty slim pickings if you're a PS3 only owner and want JRPGs, at least there are 2 SRPGs though. I'll be picking up Valkyria Chronicles if only for the fact that i'm desperate to play some kind of RPG in HD and this one at the very least looks absolutely fantastic :lol. Who knows, the gameplay has a different enough twist to it that it could turn out to be a real gem (well as long as the story's good).

Not really, alot of PS3 owners still have BC :D

I joined this forum to get away from this same dude on IGN and it looks like I failed. :(

:lol :lol :lol

Don't worry he gets called out a lot more on this board than IGN, and most times you can forget he's here altogether.

Re: the topic

MY GOD. There's no way I can keep up with all this.

I'll be getting Fallout 3 for sure, and then maybe Infinite Undiscovery... my girlfriend is getting Fable 2 and Persona 4... hopefully that will be a good enough sampling, but seriously -- I haven't wanted a RPG in months, and now they're coming by the bucketload. There are 9 other months in the year, publishers :(

Got it, thanks. Yeah, still too close.

Not that it matters though....still way too many games to be able to play to too short a period of time.

Sacred 2 is 7th november in Europe. The managing director of Ascaron posts on the team xbox sacred 2 forums.

Sacred 2 looks fucking great. I'm pumped about it. It's really emerged as one of the elite top-three in my most anticipated of the remainder of the year.

At work I've been asked a bit about upcoming hack-and-slash RPGs for the consoles, and I wish I could offer them reservations for Sacred 2. It's still not in GameStop's system, unfortunately.

The deal with CDV to publish is set to go through any day now. CDV are publishing in the US so I'm sure you will hear something soon.

And yes, It's probably my most wanted game on the 360 at the mo.

no US date yet?

I almost hope it slips to 09 here. I have way too much shit to buy already. I've already had to bump all the JRPGs off my buy list for the rest of the year, plus several other games, and I'm still sitting at something like 16 must-buys between now and Dec 2.

I'll be getting Fallout 3, no question about that... and this game will last me a long time. Then I'll play the rest.

Oh and for me it will be:

Infinate Undiscovery
Fallout 3
Fable 2
Sacred 2

Factor in the other stuff I want and it's a bunker buster strike right at my wallet.

Have there been any good hands-on impressions from the console Sacred 2 versions? I'm weary.

They went content complete on the 25th of July. Since then they have been tweaking and bug killing. Games radar has had a few hands on with the console versions. Sounding very promising and the multiplayer support is set to be very good.

Nice, I'll have to give those a look then.

I'm definitely getting these three:

Infinite Undiscovery - 9/2
Fallout 3 - 10/7
Fable 2 - 10/21

Those should be enough to keep me busy for a while.

This is my list as well. Action RPG is my favourite type of game and this fall is looking like a wet dream to me.

What's everyone's opinion on Rise of the Argonauts, by the way? I haven't seen (m)any people talking about it. It's on my radar solely for being a skill-based RPG. We need more of those :) But the writing seems to be a bit on the flaky side and I'm holding my breath as to how fun/deep the combat will end up being.

Last I saw, it was still a 'maybe' in some 2-bit Playstation branded rag. Without a date, I might add.

Let me have a look around, I may just have missed something.

A link would be appreciated.
NIS confirmed it. It was in the latest newsletter. I think it only said December 2008, though. I remember making the thread ^^ (It was kinda old news, apparently :( )

Yeah, for awhile there it seemed kinda dubious. Looks like it's a go.

Spectral Force 3 - 7/29 - $20 or less. Always wanted to play an Idea Factory game (WTF?)
Tales Of Vesperia - 8/26 - $20 or less. Abyss put me to sleep and it's supposed to be the best Tales game. Later days.
Disgaea 3 - 8/26 - Put many many hours into the first two games. Never again.
Infinite Undiscovery - 9/2 - Paid in full
Zoids Assault - 9/9 - Yeah no
DQ IV - 9/16 - Paid in full
Disgaea DS - 9/23 - Not happening
Rhapsody DS: A Musical Adventure - 9/23 - UGH
Valhalla Knights 2 - 9/23 - Definitely getting
Rise of the Argonauts - 9/30 - Considering
Sonic Chronicles - 9/30 - $20 or less
Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon - 9/30 - Not happening
Mana Khemia PSP - 10/14 - Ditto
Fable 2 - 10/21 - Paid in full
Star Ocean First Departure - 10/21 - Buying if I can dodge the Squeenix tax
Fallout 3 - 10/28 - Paid in full
Away Shuffle Dungeon - October - Tempting
Sacred 2 - 11/7 - Definitely considering
Valykria Chronicles - 11/11 - Dunno
Luminous Arc 2 - 11/18 - Not happening
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World - 11/18 - $20 or less
Last Remnant - 11/20 - Considering
Chrono Trigger DS - 11/25 - Drop the Squeenix tax and I'm there
Persona 4 - 12/9 - No thanks
Ar Tonelico 2 - December - Not happening
Eternal Sonata PS3 - Fall? - LOL
NeverWinter Nights 2 - Storm of Zehis - Fall - PC can't run NWN2...sigh
Yeah this should cover it.

It's going to get completely lost in the shuffle for me. This is a Summer 09 game if it gets decent reviews, me thinks.

I need to get a job as a game reviewer if I'm ever going to be able to play all the titles coming out this year. :lol

I'm going Sacred 2.
Fallout 3 can wait until January or so.

That's like saying, "The Filet mignon can wait, I'm housing this box of store brand mac & cheese right now!"

Lunacy, Wollan, lunacy!

Fallout 3, Sacred 2, and Fable 2 will all be on my playlist this fall. Probably the only three games I'll play for the rest of the year.

I'll take a bunch of ARPGs, thanks!

Tales Of Vesperia
Infinite Undiscovery
Rune Factory 2: A Fantasy Harvest Moon
Fable 2
Star Ocean First Departure
Away: Shuffle Dungeon
Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World

Mmmmm...

(It would have been perfect if Soma Bringer were localized... ;_; )

SO1 is considered an ARPG? I suppose so.

We're gonna have one fuck of a backlog if we play even a 1/3 of these games.. On average, RPGs take me 1 month to beat...

Looks like I might be picking up Infinite Undiscovery.. I have a $5 BB rewards zone giftcard that expires 9-23-08 that I need to use up. Too bad that game didn't come out a month earlier so I'd have something to play until DQIV comes out.

I could also pick up Rock Band 2 with it, I guess.. but I still haven't beaten drums on hard on one yet.

Tales Of Vesperia - 8/26
Infinite Undiscovery - 9/2

Sonic Chronicles - 9/30
Fable 2 - 10/21
Star Ocean First Departure - 10/21
Fallout 3 - 10/28
Last Remnant - 11/20

Chrono Trigger DS - 11/25

I'll probably play most of these, the bolded for sure. Italicized pretty sure. The DS ones are maybe (since I'm kindof a graphics whore).

What makes you more excited about Last Remnant over IU?

There just doesn't seem like there's enough info out there on LR to get fired up about. Compared with IU, I mean.

The only ones I care about are Persona 4, Valkyria Chronicles, Fable 2 (even though I don't have a 360 and I'm not getting one), Fallout 3, and Disgaea 3.

Too many RPGs, so little time.

I can only handle one RPG at a time, and right now, that's going to be DQIV in a couple of weeks or so. Since it's handheld, I will likely get Fallout 3 or Fable 2 too.

Tales and Infinite Undiscovery will have to wait until the January sales next year. I don't mind playing RPGs long after release since they're mainly single player affairs. Loving the 360 jRPG love though, I never thought that would happen when I first got the 360. :D

Yeah, funny how shit changes. I'm in a tough spot. I'm really enjoying ToV. So much so, it may be a Mass Effect scenario where I'll want to replay it right after I'm done with my first playthrough.

At the very least though, I'll put 50-60 hours into it which puts my next full time RPG into October.

I hear the main campaign in IU is like 25 hours (without sidequests) so maybe I can get a playthrough of that done before Fallout 3 hits. That's probably my plan, which bumps Fable 2 into November.

Fuck... I'm not even half way through Lost Odyssey and I just picked up ToV and I'm buying IU in the next week or so and I STILL haven't beat ME yet.... DAMN this sucks to have this many games so close :(

I'm going to be picking up he $80 version of Fallout 3 day 1, as well as the regular version of Fable 2, although I think my attention will be pretty set on Fallout after that comes out.

Sorry Molyneux :lol

I'm getting :

Tales of Vesperia
TOS Wii
Infinite Undescovery
Last Remnant
Master of Monster Lair
Dragon Quest IV
Luminous Arc 2 Will
Disgaea 3
Disgaea DS
Rhapsodia
Chrono Trigger DS
Valkyrie of the Battlefield
Sonic Chronicles
Star Ocean First Departure
Away Shuffle (if it comes out this year)
Little King's Story (if it comes out this year)

And these 4 if they count as RPG:
Harvest Moon Rune Factory 2
Harvest Moon Tree of Tranquility
Harvest Moon Island of Happiness
Castlevania OoC

DEFINITELY finish ME...even if you just rush through the story planets. Best game ending I've played in many years.

So has anyone been crushed by it yet?

Personally I haven't been able to put down Vesperia long enough to try anything else that's been released.

That came as a surprise, I didn't think I would be so attached to it.
